Choosing the right hoover?

I hated my dyson, had it for a couple of months then gave it away to a friend and bought a Hetty. She is fantastic!
Best vacuum I've owned, although my parents Miele pet one is very, very good.I have a simple philosophy:
Fill what's empty. Empty what's full. Scratch where it itches.

What's the deal with Pet Hoovers?
Are they still ok to buy if you don't have pets!? I keep getting put of by it, but I'm not sure if I should just look at it as a bonus..0 -
We have a Miele and it's great. The only things that I don't like about it are that it's very heavy, so not great for lugging up and down the stairs, and I don't like the lemon yellow colour of ours as it seems to mark easily. But other than that it's great, and I personally prefer bags to bagless vacs as I think it's tidier, and there's something oddly satisfying about chucking a bag of grot away
I think when I bought mine you could get a additional ten year warranty for about £30, which wasn't too bad as at the time they chucked in a free pack of bags too. I don't think they do that any more, which is a shame.
Edited to add - I've just looked and it looks like you can now get the model we got in black too, personally I would've preferred that but at the time it was yellow or nothing. Also the 10 year parts and labour warranty is £50 now.0 -

As I said my mum, aunt and brother all have the cat and dog ones on my recommendation, and they have no pets. I bought the turbobrush separately because my vacuum didn't have it. All the cat and dog version is, is basically a normal one with the turbobrush. You wouldn't believe the amount of hair I pick up (no pets either). A tip, don't pull the hair from the brush, there's a groove where you slide a scissors in to snip the hair from round the brush. It's easier that way.
My one is so powerful we found it a bit hard to push the normal head across the carpet - the suction is so great (it has variable speeds though). It's easy with the turbobrush though, even on the highest setting.0 -
I've a pet hair and rubble household, and hvaing tried almsot everything else available, I'd say that a Henry is the only way forward: No ridiculous bits to go wrong, simple timeless design and got more suction than a, well, a *lot* of suction! ;-)0

I think I've had every hoover on the market. I hated the dyson, the stupid thing didn't have great suction and it was clumsy to get from upright to hoovering position. I also had a henry, it was good but after a few months it developed a smell which I couldn't get rid of, it smelt like old parmesan cheese, I tried everything, bleached the tubing, changed the filter, put in freshner thingies, nothing helped, so that is now in the garage and used as a car hoover.
I have a miele cat and dog, it's pretty good, I've decided I like a bag, I am totally over the bag less cloud of cat hair and dust every time I want to empty the tank.
Having said that, I've recently added a GTECH AirRam to my collection and I love it. Not great for the stairs but for the rest of the house it's a dream.
I have a Samsung vacuum cleaner at the moment and I detest it. It's loud, does my back it to drag it across the carpet, the cylinder is a PITA to get off and the dust when I empty it is unreal.
I would love, love, love a GTECH AirRam after seeing the adverts lately so I may have to ask for one for christmas
We live in a flat so it not being god for stairs won't bother me.
One question about it though Toto, is it relatively dust free when you empty it?0 -

It really is, I'm also surprised that I don't need to empty it as often as you'd imagine with such a tiny tank. It does compress the hooverings pretty well and so far it's been completely painless to empty. The charge lasts a while too, I'm finding no issues with doing the whole 3 floors of the house on a charge.:A

I'd like a yellow one. Mine are red and Maroon.
I too have had or tried others and return to Miele. The latest Miele was bought by my father who was vacuuming at my house with a noth make of vacuum ( a pet one) I had bought two days before. He then went out, bought a Miele and did it again. The contents of the bag were pretty conclusive.
We have two because we inherited an ancient one, then got the other one to replace the cheaper one we bought to save one being carted about ( we have a largish house and I am not always able bodied)0 -

We've np had a Henry, and certainly if you have a lot of rubble then they are useful to have...probably the best because they cope with things others will not, but in terms of absolute cleaning ability they don't compete with Miele.0
