Sky broadband is absolutely C_ _ P!!!! (Can I use that word here? Not sure so better not risk it!)
We changed over to Sky when NTL broadband was bought over by Virgin Media and our deal with NTL was over, from £10 for 10MB broadband we were going to have to pay £35!!!
We got the 8MB deal from sky thinking it would work as well... well it doesn't! It not only depends on how your phone lines are but also how far your telephone exchange is. The best speed we've achieved so far (when we do have internet service) is 1MB which incidentally we could have got for free from them!
The first time we called to complain they tried selling us the 16MB service, saying it was much better...how if we are only achieving 1MB on their 8MB service and when we switched over they said that the maximum expected speed would be 6MB because of how far the telephone exchange was.
For the past 2 weeks we have had practically no internet, only able to connect in the early morning, so called the again @ 10p a minute (tried getting through via free numbers or geographical number but they insisted I had to call the 0870 number!) - Had to call them twice yesterday 2x30mn so £6 just for the pleasure of being treated as an absolute moron! In the end they made me change some settings on pc now From what they were saying their router come set for channel 11 and everyone uses channel 11 so they made me change the channel to 5, surely they could sort this out before they send the routers out! I have a connection again, but it keeps failing and I have to keep repairing it. Top speed is below 1MB!
I called Virgin Media and got their 2MB service for £10... I better pay more for that than have appalling service from Sky!
Does anyone remeber what the internet was like 10 years ago through dial-up? That is what we get...0 -
I've had Sky Broadband (Mid) for 5 months now and it's been absolutely brilliant I have absolutely no complaints whatsoever the service has been 5-star. Most people seem to have no problems, but of course they stay quiet about it, it's only when people have problems they scream blue murder so the impression is thats the same for everyone, but it ain't so.How can something be free when you have to pay a subscription to it.
I imagine he has the Sky Base package. :rolleyes:Blessed are the geeks, for they shall inherit the Internet.0 -
i have just cancelled with sky broadband as the service was awful.
at first i was promised up to 5meg connection. in reallity this was 2 meg. from day one we had problems with the connection droping constantly. they kept telling me it was because i was using wireless. so i rearranged everything so i could get route connected to my computer with the ethernet cable. exact same problems. i have been trying to get this fixed since connection in january.
we have two pcs linked up wirelessly and they both suffer drop outs at the same time - one is about 10ft from the router in another room, the other 15ft.
they told me that the only way to get this solved would be to drop the connection speed to 1/2 meg. i said no way, was promised 5 and was accepting 2, agreed to drop to 1.5. problems still persisted and eventually convinced them to send a new router. this worked great for about 1 week then drop outs became more frequent than before.
this has gone on since january. countless calls to their 0870 helplines and each time you report a problem - even if it is the same one again - you need to go through their troubleshooting muppets so they can give you a ticket number to speak to someone who understands what you are saying and knows what they are doing. trouble shooting takes about 15 - 20 minutes each time.
any time asked to speak to a supervisor i got told they were in an emergency meeting, so asked for a manager, they were in the meeting too.
after finally speaking to a supervisor, then a manager yesterday (unfortunatly this took a lot of shouting and swearing at the 'troubleshooter') i am now getting MAC code and i think i might just be going back to BT for a bit of reliability.
don't even think about using sky if you are into online gaming as the ping times are total rubbish - after speaking to 'tier 3' about this they admitted that they use poor quality exchange equipment but may get upgarded in the future. The difference between genius and stupidity is that genius has its limits0 -

He still has to pay a subscription fee to have Sky, his broadband may be included in the package but it is not free. To say it is free insinuates it cost nothing which is hardly the case.0 -
He'd still pay for the Sky package whether he has broadband or not. So the broadband, which is optional, is free.Blessed are the geeks, for they shall inherit the Internet.0

If you subscribe to that particular Sky package you get broadband included, so you are paying Sky for TV and broadband, free means you pay nothing, I do not have sky nor do I want it, for me to get sky broadband I would have to pay a sky subscription so it is not free.
I pay a lot less for my broadband than a sky subscription would cost.0 -
I have Sky Mid and I do get the odd "time out" (i just refresh the wireless networks and reconnect, fixes the problem straight away) - but for the fiver I pay for 3 laptops to be connected, I hardly think I can complain - i'd recommend it but as another poster has said, if you are into online gaming, it might not be the bestOfficial DFW Nerd no: 563 - Proud to be dealing with my debts:j0

i've been with orange and bt both rubbish and technical help rubbish. sky is brilliant
moral of story, everyone has different experiences with broadband.
sky are just jumping on the broadband bandwagon lets be honest, that's why they are not experts yet. they are getting there, their subscriptions are rising all the time and as digital will be the norm soon so will sky tv.0
