Sky Broadband - Useless!

Options
Hi
I don't normally slate companies but I want to advise anyone considering SKY Broadband to think again!
It's useless.
The set up is fine and we received our first router box in a few days. It was working fine for a week then died. They sent us a new router which arrived on Wednesday but it's not been configured. I've spent the best part of 2 hours on the phone to SKY Technical (they have 3 tiers of technical - only tier 3 know what they're talking about). Now they say we need another router box - third time lucky.
Talking to our IT consultant at work today he knows similar stories and apparently their routers are just dud.
This is our first broadband connection and it makes dial-up look brilliant.
We have said to SKY if this 3rd box doesn't work we're leaving them so if anyone can recommend a good broadband instead. We only use it at home in the evenings/weekends so we don't want anything expensive (ideally under £15 pcm)

You're lucky. They keep telling us they'll replace ours but don't. It's costing us a fortune to keep ringing them about it and as you say most of them don't even know what they're talking about. Get confused if you even call it a router not a sky broadband box
So we've now been waiting since February for a new working box and they just keep cutting us off or at best telling us someone will ring back - but they don't.

    Sky's customer services are appaulling!

I have had it for 3 months now (with wireless router) which I use via my laptop.

Every so often my connection slows and grinds to a halt.

I must say - AVOID THEM!!! They keep reading stupid scripts off their screens when you phone, it's like a broken record. All I keep getting told is "contact my computer manufacturer for help" as it must be a fault with my laptop... I keep having to stick a pen in the reset hole in the back of the router to fire it up again! It usually works again after that.
WELL EXCUSE ME MR MURDOCK... YOU PROVIDE MY SKY BROADBAND AND YOU ARE THE ONLY CONNECTION I HAVE PROBLEMS WITH!!! MY LAPTOP IS ONLY 6 WEEKS OLD...
Anyone else had the same useless advice? Please let me know.

    Keep smiling...:rotfl:

Sorry to hear of your problems, Sky took 3 months to sort me out!
If you want some unofficial practical help try https://www.skyuser.co.uk
A lot of problems can be solved yourself.
e.g Drop outs and frequent disconnections are often due to poor internal wiring, resulting in low noise margins.

Of course Sky rarely tell you how to access the router to see what its doing.

http://192.168.0.1/start.htm gets you in, user admin, password sky

    This link might help.

    Try:-

They cost a bit more than a lot, but the extra is well, well worth it !

Zen always come out well in any ISP surveys.

Beat this.. I've been trying to sort out my father's broadband since November 06 and been given the complete run around. I'm in here currently looking for other providers.

Cheap recommendations gratefully received for a pensioner father with potential low usuage.

    Many thanks.
