Psychic Visit

While at my parents house in May2001, I opened a letter from a psychic promising my mother so much if only she would ring such and such a number an d pay up, of course.
Strangely the psychic did not know that my mother had died a month earlier.

There are a great number of standing challenges for significant sums of money for just one person to prove their abilities under scientific scrutiny. James Randi's is the most famous and has been a standing offer of $1m since the mid-1960s. It remains unclaimed.
Even if these "gifted" individuals were not in it for the money (the most commonly cited reason) surely the ability to prove their craft and have $1m (more if they take more challenges) to distribute among charities or the poor and unfortunates would be reason enough to prove Randi wrong?0 -

I knew a psychic who had the ability to do a really good ghost impression.0 -
I went with a cousin and my sister a few years ago, I removed all my rings before going in. As soon as I went in I was asked if I was married, if I had children and how many. I did answer her honestly and said I have 2 children, she then said about how I had a girl and boy and how much they loved each other. I told her I have 2 girls and she became very defensive, insisting I had a boy (I think I know my daughters) then insisting I have had a miscarriage because I should have had a boy!! Not impressed at all.Norn Iron Club member 273:beer:0

Is it possible? I suppose so.
Likely?
Not at all, no. There are many offered prizes and awards for those who are prepared to prove their "gifts", but no-one's yet claimed them....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -

I am open minded enough to think that in the realms of this universe there is a possibility that someone may have a genuine gift. It would be possible to prove but as yet, it hasn't been.
I don't think that anyone who genuinely had a gift would prey on the weak and vulnerable and charge extorniate amounts in the process.
Unfortunately, I think for many, it's a case of a quick, easy buck.0 -

Nope. She sat across for him for a few moments. Didn't speak to him and then wrote down / drew on a couple of sheets of paper.
AND my OH turned up as a last minute replacement for someone, so she didn't know he was coming.
I'm not saying there could not be some kind of logical explanation / scam behind it, but the stuff she wrote / drew was spookily accurate, and that was without exchanging any words.
Up until my OH went to see this psychic I totally 100% believed it was a load of poppy !!!! BUT after this, I'm not sure.0 -

Confirmation bias.
HBS x"I believe in ordinary acts of bravery, in the courage that drives one person to stand up for another."

How does that work?
As I said, she didn't speak to him at all before she started writing.0
