    100% fail thus far. Went onto the shop small website, picked two merchants shown on there that I'd need to use anyway, both say they don't take AmEx.

    Great stuff.

    that is worrying then...i havent got round to trying it yet

    Indeed and some of the World Elite cards charge even more (Although they are rare). This can be particularly painful for a foreign merchant (Like in France) who may only pay 0.3% or 0.4% on a normal domestic Visa or MC transaction.

    Taking out of EU cards is also painful, thats another 1% on top. I've once seen on my statement an Out of EU Visa Infinite car, I got charged just under 4% for the transaction.

    Amex is definitely my favourite for out of eu cards as its the same flat fee.

    The problem is most merchants will just look at the base from interchange fee, not actually the extra fees.

    Same problem as last time in that you can go to a store listed on their website only to be told that it doesn't accept Amex. Anyone contacted Amex in this case and got a credit?

    Last time people reported getting credits but when it happened to me I complained and they just apologised. I didn't take it further. It was a pizza restaurant so I couldn't even refuse to buy, as I'd already eaten the meal before I found out they didn't take Amex!

    In fact I think the same restuarant is on the list this time! (not sure as can't remember the name).

    Hi Chomeur, This happened several times to me last year. Amex apologised, they use old Data base, and don,t always update it when shops stop using Amex. They did refund my £5 a few times, thier fault for not keeping database updated. Better to ask first, saves phoning Amex.
    Amex accused me of "taking advantage" last year,( too much), Moius::::but, I went above his head, and got compensated for the Amex reps bad attitude and lack of knowledge of the scheme.
    happy shopping.
    Done twenty so far.loads by me.leeds area. it,s got the most shops in the country in my area, according to thier site.good innit;
