The OP said - 'Royal mail are saying they delivered a note to the bank's PO that they have something to collect'. Which is exactly the process - Special Delivery, Recorded, Tracked etc are not put in the PO Box, a card is left in the box that the collector then collects from the delivery office in order to obtain a signature.

The likelyhood here is that a card was missed, and has subsequently not been followed up, or disposed of by the collector when they discovered their mistake.

All I did was offer help to the original poster. Your subsequent comment was unhelpful and incorrectly advised that PO Boxes were delivered only, implying what the OP reported was not possible. I relied on my own experience of working in 2 banks and previously running my own mail order company along with the following - http://www.royalmail.com/parcel-despatch-low/uk-delivery/po-box

This isn't helping the OP at all and isn't relevant to his query and has taken this off topic. I'm retiring from this thread, so feel free to offer your expert knowledge of the subject.

To the OP - sorry for taking the thread off topic.

On topic advice for the OP, based on personal experience, is at post#17.

I sincerely hope it isn't lost amongst the redundant off-topic argument about how and why the acceptance letter has gone astray.

The thread has even been hi-jacked by another user with a completely unrelated query!

You have experince in a bank and RMs site
    great
where do you think my experience lies?
  • Hi,

Im in EXACTLY the same situation. I spoke to the complaints team on 0800 881155 and they were very helpful, basically admitted it does happen but not to panic too much, they are sending me another copy of the acceptance form.

It just shows as "making its way through the system" on the Royal Mail site, and the asian lady on the HSBC phone says they have defintely NOT recieved it or processed it.

...Can I ask, how long it should take normally for a letter of this kind to make its way through the PO box system etc? Is it slightly longer than normal mail at the best of times then?

Royal Mail have 15 working days to deliver the item.
If the status does not change, make a claim to Royal Mail.
They'll probably send you 6 first class stamps in recompense ... or they may write to the recipient and the recipient provide a written confirmation saying they received your letter ... in which case you'll then know it was delivered :)

Btw, get a free proof of posting if you make a RM claim, despite it being a freepost address - then if, as has been known in the past, RM decide to try the old "your claim was lost in the post" routine to avoid paying out, you can claim for that loss too! ;)

That's the number of the Service Quality Team, not the PPI complaints team.

Yeah and then you start yet another four weeks before they pay you your redress!

The OP needs to arrange to sign an acceptance at a local branch of HSBC, although he might want to avoid some of the experiences I encountered by ringing ahead to arrange it.

I don't think the OP will be worried about reclaiming the cost of postage, I think it's the PPI redress he wants!

In not properly reading posts, no doubt. Seems to be something about postal workers - our local ones also can't read properly.

I ran my own mail order company. 8 years I was an end user of a PO Box. One of the banks I worked at was a regional office, and I arranged, amongst other things, mail transfers, internal mail and dx mail.

Maybe it's just our local delivery office that does things differently, but as a customer and user of PO Boxes for many years, I'm clearly doing it wrong.

Again, sorry to the OP and others who are bored with this.

You are basing your 'experience' on one DO as a relatively small user vs large banking offices
    Nothing similar IME.
Glad to see you have been reduced to making slights at me though.

It wasn't a slight, you didn't read my post properly.

So a regional bank office isn't a large banking office then? No doubt you've dealt with deliveries for all the major banks. And not one Delivery Office, there were 6 in our region that were collected from.

So, you're saying it's impossible for a secure courier to pick up mail for a PO Box, even though they were an authorised user? Seems that Securicor were doing it wrong in my days at Barclays, and TNT are obviously doing it wrong when dealing with IBM/South West One in Somerset.

    Where did I say that?
I have dealt with many couriers collecting for companies
large users not picking up a few items from little boxes
