It just shows as "making its way through the system" on the Royal Mail site, and the asian lady on the HSBC phone says they have defintely NOT recieved it or processed it.

could be delivered and not scanned
unfortunately it is easy to miss barcodes on letters with bulk deliveries
there's no real way forward unless you get a response from the bank
you will have to decide if you want to resend or whatever
  • Just had a letter with a questionnaire from HSBC today about a loan I had years ago that had PPI on it. They want me to fill in the form and then they will decide if I am eligible to claim it back. I don't even remember the loan never mind any of the details but I have always thought PPI and similar were a waste of money so the one thing I do know is that I would never have agreed to pay it. I'm just worried they use a loophole to say I can't claim. Feel like I'm being set up. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The bank say they don't have it. I can't resend, without another acceptance form, which obviously I don't have if they won't send me one...

I've asked, but she didn't really address the issue. Why can't you talk to the actual dept you're dealing with these days!!

Can I ask, how long it should take normally for a letter of this kind to make its way through the PO box system etc? Is it slightly longer than normal mail at the best of times then?

Scottypops just send it back - that's all I did, and 8 weeks later I got my offer. Just the mail system I've gotten in trouble with lol! ;)

A delivery PO box would generally be delivered in the same time scales
it varies on how the mail is handled
eg the PO box mail maybe sent onto another office for delivery

Has anyone else sent a signed for letter to HSBC and did it get there okay?
    Yes, I certainly have! You can read the whole story in my thread from last year;

You should follow the directions given to me then for a VERY swift resolution to your problem.

    Trust me on this
I know how PO boxes work and you will note I didnt say redirection
    I said diversion
If a bank was using a 3rd party then why would they be carded? The third party would sign and collect for the items

If you know about PO Boxes, you'd know that diversion is only possible for 15 months, redirection for 3 years. If it's the HSBC office I'm thinking of, this PO Box has been in place for a few years. After the 15 months, it reverts to collection only unless a local address can be supplied for delivery.

The card could have been left in the PO Box, like it normally would be. As you know, carded items are then collected by the person opening the PO Box, all done within the same delivery office. Nobody has said the card was actually sent to HSBC.

One of our sister companies use a PO Box to present a presence on the East coast and another in Scotland after closing units, yet only have a physical office in the South West. Due to the sensitive nature of items sent to them, they use a secure courier to collect mail from the PO Box on a daily basis which is then shipped to them.
    Competition wins:
    2010 - approx £450. 2011 - approx £800. 2012 - approx £300. 2013 - nothing so far!

All this arguing about why the acceptance has not been received is redundant since it does nothing to solve the Op's problem.
My own experience is that a recorded delivery acceptance is almost guaranteed never to arrive at it's intended destination.
I didn't care last year because an E-Mail to the CEO of HSBC meant that my money was paid into my account within three days. However, even the letter of apology still said they had no trace of my letter even though Royal Mail said it was definitely delivered four weeks earlier.

I suggest the OP go to the link I provided in post # 17..

Banks shuffle their mail handling all the time
eg send a letter to a BOS branch in Scotland,it doesnt go to the branch. it goes to a central mail handling unit in Edinburgh
RBS still use address in Edinburgh that hasn't existed in over 10 years.
once more,if the bank was sing a 3rd party to collect mail, why woud they be carded?(As per the OP)
when these services are used the courier is collecting everything. so they sign for the items
