As I understand it TS said that the dealer had falsely advertised the car and should he not refund me some money for the repairs or not do the repairs himself I could take him to court, however the clutch then reared its head and faced then with a possible bill of £600 + he gave a full refund.

Exactly my point. TS werent interested in either forcing the dealer to work with you OR in taking on YOUR case to go to court. They merely said you could.

Chances are the dealer realised that refunding and disposing of the car through auction was cheaper than fixing all its problems.

Well on the way home the turbo hose went for starters, so limped home as was nearly there, dealer agreed to repair via local garage.
Two days later found the cruise and window didn't work so complained to dealer which fell on deaf ears till ts got in touch with him, in that time the clutch / dmf's started to go as well. So faced with a repair bill for the cruise control - window electrics and now the clutch / dmf's the dealer cut his losses and refunded me in full.

The car was a 56 Vectra estate.

All Vectra's have cruise control as standard. I'm guessing it wasnt working cos you were using the clutch pedal as a foot rest turns the cruise off) , which then brought on the failure of the DMF..

As for a window not working, well its harldy SOGA is it?

Hintza your first post was accusatory and pointless, hence my dig at you!
I am perfectly capable of accepting people saying "no I don't think you can because of XY and Z". Your post didn't provide help at all. You came across as an a**e. But that's by the by, maybe you were a little blunt and I was a little sensitive.

As stated before I appreciate this is an "old" car to some, however at 9 years old it is much newer than my previous cars of 20-14 years old, and I expected it to be a little rougher on the outside, I didn't say I was unhappy about the ding, just that it was worse in person thank on the ad, and it did say immaculate condition.... Which it wasn't. Good condition yes, not immaculate.

Thank you again to all those who have helped and I have spoken to TS this morning who do say I have a case, but first course of action is to speak to the dealer and come to some arrangement, if that doesn't happen then I can go through more formal routes.

My comment about taking him to court was a jibe at unhelpful comments, I wouldn't waste my time doing that, is rather sell it on at a loss to be fair!

It's not really buyers remorse, it's the fact I thought I had bought something that in reality I haven't got. I paid over the odds for what I've got, there are plenty out there to choose from with all the items I wanted and thought I was getting for the money. I just want what I was expecting.

I'm no apologist for the motor trade, and if I bought a car where the Dual Mass Flywheel, or DPF or clutch went very shortly after I'd bought the thing; or indeed anything that might have been an advisory on a previous MOT and hadn't been fixed; well, I'd make my unhappiness known. But an unadjustable seat, tinted glass, cruise control? At 9 years old? I'm selling my old banger at 12 years old, and it's definitely 'as seen'. A/C doesn't work, electric windows reluctant and 6 CD player in the boot needs fixing.. I'll answer any questions truthfully, but I expect a bit of intelligence when you buy an old car.

It's not about things not bein perfect on an older car, it's about them not being there at all despite paying for them. I'm also sure (hoping) that your "banger" is being advertised as those things not working!! Dealers don't have any recourse on "sold as seen" that is purely for private sellers

My last car was a 14 year old old, when I sold that everything worked perfectly, it was it excellent condition inside and out! And the one previous to that at 19 years old was also in better condition than this "new" car :rotfl: !!!

Your the second person within 24 hours who writes something and then has a go at me. If you aren't happy then walk away or make an adjustment in your offer.

If you aren't 100% happy then give the car a more thorough inspection, if you are unsure of this then take someone who can inspect it or pay for one of the motoring organisations to inspect it for you.

As has been said the car is coming up ten years old, it is past its economic design lifespan and a car of that age will have faults and will potentially have terminal faults in the near future or it might trundle along quite happily for another 10 or more years, who knows.

Thanks Hintza, as I said you came across blunt, and unhelpful however that's the past now and probably 6 of one and half a dozen of another.

I hadn't realised you could pay a professional to come and look at a car, that is very useful thank you, and something I will certainly look into!

I thought that a car of this age would be in better nick that it was but I now see I'm probably wrong, my perception is this was near enough new!! Haha

Oh well, I'll see what the dealer says and hopefully I can get this sorted. If not you live and learn at at least I know I can get a professional to look over any future purchases!

With older cars you just have to be a wee bitty more careful and if certain features are important to you then check them out.

I had a look at the Ebay advert and the parts written by the seller are fairly clear, however the main body of text (which might be just standard EBay stuff) was not.

If the car seats do NOT move you have reason to get that fixed as they are certainly a safety issue.

    Good luck.

Cruise control used to fail when the spring in the clutch pedal stretched.
