Thanks LannieDuck! Our intention has always been a couple of weeks bf and then moving to combination feeding which for us is bf and bottle feeding expressed milk. Just have to remind myself to take some stuff with a pinch of salt - haven't even spoken to the same midwife more than once yet and they all have their own views about which they can be very pushy.

That's exactly what I did with DD1, and I'm hoping to do the same again this time. It worked really well for me.

I found the mw's attitude changes once you come out the other side - I've been asked on a couple of occasions whether I breastfed my first baby (e.g. for my booking appt with this baby), I've always got congratulations for having bfed for 6 months, and comments like "oh well done, most mum's don't manage that long" etc. I think they also see expressed breastmilk as the same as breastfeeding - I've put it down as 'mixed feeding' before now, only for a mw to cross it out and put 'exclusive bfing'.

I guess the hard push for bfing is to try and improve the very low rates in some areas. But if you've already decided to try bfing, it's not always very helpful.

  • Claire - we ordered one early in Dec as Mothercare had their 20% offer on plus it was one of their 'advent' deal of the day thingies so it should have cost us close to £90 but actually only cost us about £35ish! Already fascinated with it and had a little play with setting it up etc. Now stored neatly in it's pouch in the nursery :)

Lannie it's so useful to hear from people who have already tried similar methods to our plans and found them positive!

Afternoon everyone, I'm more lurking than posting this weekend. Today's task is to pack the hospital bag and write a birth plan so I have it to show the MW tomorrow! I wouldn't mind but I don't have a word processor on this machine yet so I need to go find the disk grrr. Oh well not long left now :)

Afternoon ladies, hope your bumps are behaving themselves :)

Had a bit of a blue day yesterday after I said to DH that I hasn't put any extra weight on in a couple of weeks although I have put on a fair bit and he said 'I won't say it's because of your chocolate button habit'. So I cried quite a bit, what else did he expect? Lol but it was good in a way cos we got to talk about my recent crisis of faith- I'm getting stressed out at the thought of not working again, not being a good mum and losing my whole personality to being one of those mums who only talk about their child. Feel much better for having said it all out loud :)

Nursery is finished, very pleased with it :) keep walking in and touching things lol she has a drawer full of new born and one of 0-3 months vests and sleepsuits but only like two outfits :( will have to make sure I pick up lots in the January sales. Speaking if which, both my husband and my sister have banned me from going to the next sale on boxing day as it's too dangerous for a pregnant woman lol but my sister will go as my proxy :D

Took car for MOT and she needs a new headlight which he can't fit until the morning, feel like I've lost an arm, even though there's always public transport lol embarrassing conversation too, as I've had it repaired after a an embarrassingly stupid bump so the mechanic was like 'its loose as the fitting has sheared off, must've had a knock' like he was worried I didn't know about it and I'm thinking 'yep yep, let's not question it cos I don't want to explain it, just tell me how much and when I need to pay you' lol love my mechanic, he's really good and never charges much so I just agree to what he wants lol

Becca tell me about it. Getting a bit sick of nausea (no pun intended ;)) and being really picky about food again!

Don't think the undeniable waddly bump could be confused with 1st tri though ;)

Team Lowe- I've had similar moments of crisis too... I suspect it's all normal and hormone driven too :)

I keep getting pains in the front of my shins, like shin splints, especially if I'm sat too long. Anyone else getting the same?

    Hi ladies,
Had a baby-morning and festive afternoon... The morning was midwife appt (34wk) and scan to check placenta position- all good, phew! Afternoon making a crafty Xmas wreath while hubby made sausage rolls (his fave Christmas tradition!)
Two days left at work, and as they include a Christmas lunch (in nhs canteen!) and Christmas party (bring your own buffet food!) will be a relaxed two days I hope... Looking forward to Thursday and putting my feet up.
    Best wishes all round x

Well my birth plan is written, it's 3 pages long and just needs OH to check it over. Right, hospital bag next then...

When do you get advised to write a birth plan ? It hasn't been mentioned to me but I have a few months to go.

I haven't even thought of it tbh.. just want to go to the hospital when the times comes and see how I get on... I don't have a 'plan' so to speak.
