Welcome to all 3 of you

Hope the BH either settle down or turn into something helpful Amy.

I was having a lot more discomfort this weekend too. Friday night I got some particularly interesting pains for hours, but since then it's just been occasional, although I am more waddle-y now. ;)

Today we sorted some stuff in the house, put some Christmas decs up, did a freezer inventory... I'd been batch cooking and stock piling, before the nausea (very similar to my first trimester, off red meat again, smells knocking me sickly etc ) returned recently - but the freezers were getting full and I had no idea what was in them any more. I don't think I'm capable of much meal planning whole somewhat arty the mercy of my hormones once more, but at least we know what we have in to choose from ;) It also gave DH a shove into cleaning the fridge properly :D

We also fit the car seat base in the car this afternoon, to see if it fit ok etc and now have just left the car seat in there. I'm full term on Wednesday, so I don't really see the point of taking it out unless we need the space for something specific in the meantime :)

Getting so big, and finding it harder to get comfortable and sleep well, is flaring my conditions up... hope baby comes before I reach the end of my tether with my symptoms :o Seeing yet another consultant tomorrow though, so we'll see what they have to add...

    36+5

ETA: Con, I was a little worried about my belly button popping out too, but even though I've felt it straining at times (moisturiser, vaseline, sudacrem - all helped me at various points), it's still an 'inny' ;)

Sorry I haven't posted for a few days. I've been meaning to do an epic post commenting on all the things you've been up to but I haven't had a chance and I'm just so fed up.

I found out on Thursday that I'm almost certainly being made redundant. I've not been hormonal or tearful at all this pregnancy but I felt upset and tearful for a while that day and had to go find somewhere quiet to hide out. I just can't believe they've virtually wiped out my grade with no warning or support. We all knew that there would be job losses affecting a few grades but they've told most other grades that there's enough roles for them but now but my grade has less than 3 jobs available for 35 people and they are very niche roles that virtually all of us don't have the right experience for. It's not just that I'm probably going to go onto six months notice in April, but the lack of care and support. We're mid way through buying a house and I'm the main earner. I was supposed to go back nearly full time (maybe four days) and hubbie was looking forward to either reducing to three days or quitting and getting a part time local job while doing most of the childcare. There are a few promotion opportunities available but I have a feeling they would rather find someone externally. So even though I should have spent this weekend doing my application I've got my hair highlighted and been to a Christmas Market. Why am I killing myself working late and stressing about deadlines when there's no job for me?

  • Hello to those just joining the thread :hello:

Claire - when you put that your DH did a charity row/bike/run, I read it quickly and thought at first it was you who had done it!!! :rotfl:
    Good on 'im.

Mrs Bunny - re awkward toilet moments, just wait till you have to do it while holding a baby! :rotfl: I know you would think I'll just put him down somewhere eg in a bouncer but trust me there will be times when you are doing the one handed pee! :rotfl:

Kerri - that was lovely of your friends throwing a baby shower. I'm the same in that I've only lived in this area for about a year and a half so while I've made some lovely friends, not sure they're close enough that they'd throw a baby shower.

Amy - hope your pains stop unless it's the real thing. lol at your death stare communication techniques :rotfl: most guys would be oblivious. My poor DH didn't stop this weekend. I was doing stuff too, well as much as I could but the house still looks a mess! :p

Con - my belly button sort of flattened out but didn't ever completely stick out. In saying that, it never returned completely to what it used to look like

BigZ - hope your aches and pains ease up a bit. It's hard near the end when you feel so huge. My problem is I feel so huge already and I'm only 29wks :o

Kynthia - that is horrible news about your job. You don't need that stress. Having a baby and buying a house us more than enough on your plate. :grouphug:

AFM - I was sorting out baby clothes last night. I have 2 cratefuls but that is stuff up to 1 yr so I'll def need to buy more ;) a lot of it is vests and sleepsuits although there are some nice wee bits and pieces. Was also sorting out all my girls stuff to sell. There is so much and it's so cute but need to clear out.

    Morning ladies!

That sucks about your job situation Kynthia. :(

Welcome to the ladies moving up to the big girl thread!

Con, my belly button hasn't popped out yet but it's gone a bit funny and soft feeling, it's kind of flattening out like faithope said but I can live with that as long as it doesn't pop! :p It's been pretty sore at times too, I never thought I'd get a sore belly button but it happens! :o

Well done to your OH Claire! :) Mine played rugby on Saturday (and 'only' picked up about 10 cuts and bruises along with a very stiff neck, not bad going!), he was exhausted and sore so had a bath during Strictly and we were in bed by about 10, was lovely! :)

Kerri, that's really nice of your friends to throw you a shower! I doubt mine will think to do one since I'm normally the one doing things like that. :o

Bought some tights from Jojo Maman Bebe on Saturday, got them on today and so far they feel nice. :) My Mum was with me and bought me some pyjama bottoms and a nursing vest for the hospital as I told her I'd been having anxiety dreams about not having my hospital bag sorted, she got me a nice jumper from there too so I felt very spoilt. :)

My cold from last week seemed to die off a little for a couple of days but it's back with a vengence now! Such a snotty mess, not happy! :(

Omg Faith I could barely manage about 20 mins max on a treadmill and that was before getting pregnant! Lol! DH did a full marathon! And that was after the rowing & biking! I don't know how he does it.

I discovered last night much to mine and DHs amusement if I laugh & slightly push my tummy out my belly button sticks out a tiny bit! I can seem to move it it's really weird!

Still feeling quite nauseous in the mornings so I'm not happy to hear yours has returned Birdie, I haven't got rid of mind yet so I really hope that doesn't happen to me as it might mean the vomiting returns!
  • Hello...can I sneak in and join you all?
25+ 3 today but have been holding off on graduating on to this thread! Feeling very behind on everyone's news now!

Has anyone bought any good maternity tights that are thick ones?
The ones in Mothercare are really expensive but Im now desperate and will cough up for them if someone says theyre good.
I've read you bought some now but just to echo other comments - Mothercare's woollen tights are totally worth it. I got some a couple of weeks ago with the 20% off and have worn then 4+times a week since then!

Just coming in to join the conversation about feeding and Dads involvement... We had our NCT bf session on Thursday night, Mums and Dads attended so we could all understand and the teacher did try to emphasise feeding as a team effort... One of the things that helps baby with bf is skin to skin contact and this can be with Dad as well as Mum. If for whatever reason Mum cannot give skin to skin when baby is born, it's a good idea for Dad to whip his top off apparently so baby still has the comfort it needs, and can start bonding with parents. We talked about all the extras that make feeding successful: spotting signs that baby is hungry, how to know if baby is feeding enough, mixing bf and expressing or bf and formula - and those are all things Dad can help with. It can be Dads job to take the baby for a cuddle/ burp post-feed, or to calm it from crying pre-feed.... I think it's just a case of making sure Dad is part of the routine, once you've worked out what that routine is!! I'm a first time mum too so no expert but hope this helps a little. There is helpful advice out there...

Can not thank you enough for this; going to echo it to oh as he is worrying about being involved enough once baby arrives as at our last mw appointment (2 weeks ago) the mw we saw was a bit militant about bf. Having asked us our plans (combination feeding but just bf for a few weeks) she got very militant and said it had to be at least 6 weeks on only bf and nothing else and it annoyed/upset him a bit!

As for us; nursery is done and almost every baby item we could need to start off with purchased which is a huge relief for me! Just the hospital bags to do. Trying to stop buying little clothes now as we don't know what people may give us etc.

MW told me it was far to early to be thinking about antenatal classes but said 'if you really must call the community office to book some for your due date' really don't think it's too early to be preparing when we are due the end of March!

No morning sickness or weird cravings yet either! Had a few issues with cramp but that's about it - oh and getting tired a lot/really quickly!

We got a Groupon for a 4d scan with a DVD and some free pictures for £30 not long ago and it just needs booking so going to look in to that later today and hopefully get it booked for 3rd week in January-ish.

Bump is getting bigger and trying so hard not to stress about weight gain; have decided that from now until new year I am going to enjoy food and relax about it. In the new year I am going to go on a bit of a healthy eating kick. It's mostly lunch time where I slip up and snack through lunch and until home time! Very frustrating as I always said I wanted to maintain the super healthy ways I had in the summer :(

Bah, it annoys me when mws get militant about bfing. There's no problem with combination feeding (except make sure you read up about nipple confusion). And you can always do combination feeding with expressed breastmilk.

But some people find they can't breastfeed for one reason or another. Their babies don't suffer because of it - formula milk is very good now.

It's a personal choice, and whilst I support the mws encouraging new mums to try bfing, it shouldn't be seen as a failure if you can't / decide not to bf exclusively.

Book them now! Antenatal classes sometimes fill up fast.

Yeah my midwife asks me every time if I've booked my classes or not!

I still haven't booked my hospital ones, but the nct one is paid for so I'm not gonna stress as I expect the hospital ones will be full now as they said to book after 20 week scan and that was 6 weeks ago!

Kynthia I'm so sorry about your job situation. The only positive I can think of is that at least as it's happening when you're pregnant, if you don't get another job after 6 months straight away at least you will have a very good excuse to stay at home :) and your hubby might just have to wait a little before he can take over. I know that doesn't help you pay your bills though :(

Lush Don't worry I'm sure once the baby is here it will all be ok. There are so many ways for men to get interaction and cuddles with the baby, feeding is just one part. And I think bonding wise the baby just wants food, so at least if you're not feeding them and getting a cuddle it might feel even better as you're not just there as a food machine lol!
  • Thanks LannieDuck! Our intention has always been a couple of weeks bf and then moving to combination feeding which for us is bf and bottle feeding expressed milk. Just have to remind myself to take some stuff with a pinch of salt - haven't even spoken to the same midwife more than once yet and they all have their own views about which they can be very pushy. I know it's my first baby and I'm 'only' 24 but many friends have children who I've helped with and I've nannied as well as having relatives so I've picked bits up along the way already!

I am petrified that the antenatal classes which we would have to book for are already filled. Meant to bring my notes to work and book them from here today but was silly and forgot in my morning rush to leave the house! Will definitely be calling tomorrow morning!

Gave our Chief Exec a letter detailing my going on mat leave on Friday as he refuses to sit and talk to me about it! Have decided on using 5 days holiday and then technically start my mat leave just 5 days before bump is due. Sounds like a faff but I need to use some holiday allowance and it means that I will get a full months wage in March (pay day is the 25th and the financial controller has said it will give me a full pay packet rather than 3 weeks @ full pay and 1 week 2 days on SMP) so a nice little extra bit!

That reminds me lush I need to ask my friend if I can borrow her breast pump!

I know she didn't get on with expressing as she said for her it took so long to get a pitiful amount compared to what the baby can get out, she literally didn't have the time to do it whilst inbetween feeds etc but I'd like to borrow it, incase it were to work for me then I could express some milk incase either an emergency or for months later down the line when I might leave the house for a while to see a friend or something and leave DH to do a feed.
