    Congratulations Flower :)

Locky - my sister swears that going shopping helps get her through contractions and move things along ;)

MW this morning, OH and I have bets on whether she'll send me for another growth scan. It'll be 3 times in a row if she does and I really hope that she doesn't as I've got my new phone arriving today so need to be at home. I also have the cats food arriving so don't want to be longer than my appointment grr.

Labour vibes to the boldies (and the queue jumpers) and hugs to those that need them xx

Hi all - hoping that the babies in waiting were just wanting to be November babies & they will get a move on now.

Been saving what could be an epic post until I found time to sit at the PC - but that hasn't happened so i will do a one handed iPad update instead & see how far I get as I have a sleeping baby on my other hand.

After my waters broke on Thursday & I was waiting for induction I was monitored.

On sat afternoon the hospital called to say that swabs taken on Thursday for the group b strep bacteria had come back positive. This is a bacteria that many of us have in our vagina or bum without a problem. However it can be a problem when you go into labour, can be passed to the baby & having read up since, could be the cause of 200 baby deaths a year.

Anyway, because of the infection I went to the top of the list for induction so went to the hospital.

My induction drip started at 615 pm along with high dose penicillin. The induction drip was increased every 30 minutes & by about 8pm pain was kicking in so I used gas and air.

Just after 9 I said that I wouldn't be able to cope with the increasing pain and asked for an epidural. The anaesthetist was in theatre so didn't arrive until 1030! She then told me it would be 20 minutes to take effect & I must admit I wondered how I would cope with the pain increasing whilst I waited for it to take effect.

She then tried 3 times to give me the epidural & failed. Each time she got it in, blood would come back into the catheter from the vein. She was going to try a 4th attempt but the midwife called a stop and said she wanted to review as baby's heart rate was up and down.

It was about 1115 and the midwife and a doctor checked me over and said I was nearly there and by about 1130 they asked if I felt ready to push. I did!

Her head delivered on the stroke of midnight & she was out at 00.01 - my little Cinderella! Had ventouse and tearing resulting in stitching.

The cord was round her neck twice which probably accounts for the heart rate dropping but she cried quickly, was given to me & did a wee.

    She was absolutely fine.

She was with us for about 15 minutes and then was taken away to get iv antibiotics & a canula inserted. She had to have precautionary antibiotics every 12 hours until the tests were done for group b strep - this take 36 hours to grow. Thankfully all was ok on this.

Reading back, this probably seems like a nightmare - it wasn't really. It was painful & I was frustrated by the lack of epidural as I had no idea when the pain would end. In the event, it was doable with gas and air.

I had a brilliant midwife with me throughout and the medical team who 'appeared' for the pushing stage were amazing.

Hope this isn't TMI for anyone.

I will add more later for post birth stuff.

    Congratulations Flower08

TTC40 thank you for that, it's good to hear stories so you can get an idea of the sort of thing that might happen. it's a shame you didn't get your epidural but i think you're right, if you'd known how the pain would be you may not have wanted it, it's the fear of the unknown and it getting worse. hope Lucy stays quietly asleep for you :)

Congratulations TTC. Glad you and baby are ok. You've just reminded me I need to order a group B strep kit to do at home when I'm 37 weeks xx

    Congratulations TTC40, nene, COMP and Flower08 :j:j:j:j

Our little Jason is 10 days old now and doing well.

I am healing slowly but surely. Yesterday I managed to sit upright for a few minutes and I can lie on my back as well as my left side now. (my hip would be so sore from lying on it day and night)
Had a glycerol suppository inserted by district nurse a few days ago. The swelling had stopped me going to the toilet and I was in agony by this point due to constipation. Anyway it worked thank goodnessand since then I'm a bit better every day. Taking Fybogel and Lactulose to help until all the swelling goes down and normal function returns. Plus the usual dietary stuff, fresh orange juice, figs, raisins, weetabix etc. Still need paracetamol and ibuprofen (max dosage). Also ice packs have helped with swelling.
DH is sleeping in the single bed in the boys room. He was bumping into me in the night so was evicted lol. Also baby in there as he is doing all the feeds still. (I can hold baby and give him milk but can't really pick him up or put him back down yet) DS has been sleeping at my mum's and comes round in the daytime until I can handle DH back in our bed.

  • TTC40 - i don't think there is such a thing as TMI on here! It's the whole point really! Gross out a bunch of strangers with stuff you can't tell/ask people you know!

I haven't joined the list as convinced I would be early, but if i'm not sorted by next week I will. I just know how annoying queue jumpers can be (that was me last time! Lol!)

Don't want baby today as mums birthday, and we're not best friends!

Need to make it through until Sun PM/Mon now as busy weekend!! Knees together!!

    Congratulations Flower08!

Thanks for sharing TTC. Congrats again!

Lost my plug this morning. Yikes! Hope it means something will happen today (the midwife predicted I'd go into labour today!) and I can avoid induction tomorrow!
