Yup spot on. I am on the list to help at my local group now. As I am desperate to get the message out there. I wonder how we can change this - although I'm also thinking mummies get full of info pre birth so maybe it wouldnt make much difference? Altough they just may remember something that is a key thing. I dunno something definately needs doing.

Congratulations COMP! :j Beautiful name! Hope you recover quickly.

Hope the induction goes well today Brunettegirl. :)

I'm really hoping my belly button doesn't turn into an outie, although I fear it will as it's feeling so stretched that maybe it's the only way for it to go?! Would love to know what to rub in to make things feel less tender, been trying all sorts and nothing's helping. :(

Been in a grump for a few days and last night it ended up in an uncontrollable session of the boo-hoos in bed! OH didn't know what to do since there was no warning (although he had frowned at me earler! How dare he!) and I was laughing inbetween sobs as it was so ridiculous because I had no idea what I was sobbing about! How odd. :p

Went to see MIL last night and she's been knitting for the baby. Ages ago I mentioned that I didn't want our LO to wear 'Nana Knits' as in the big, fluffy, bright cardigans my Nana made for me and when we went shopping I pointed out the types of baby cardigans I liked in the shops and MIL said that she could make them for me and got all excited. So I go around last night and bless her, they're really quite naff! Really thick and chunky and in garish colours :o She's got a massive binder of patterns for babies but I could only find one pattern I didn't mind the look of (seriously, some patterns pre-date OH!) and asked for it to be done in a grey or brown rather than the bright yellows and blues she's been favouring. My problem is that however much I try I *cannot* hide my disappointment when I don't like something so she's going to know I think the ones she's made already aren't my cup of tea! Has anyone got any links for patterns for *modern* baby jackets/cardigans? :)
Overcome the notion that you must be ordinary. It robs you of the chance to be extraordinary!

Congratulations COMP! Seems a lot of us on here have ended up with sections recently, i have to say at the time i was petrified but recovery has been nowhere near as bad as i thought, feel ok as long as i dont overdo it and its only 4 days later.

Trina, my belly felt numb around my belly button from about week 30+, was putting bio oil/palmers on twice a day but still completely covered on stretch marks now!

All going well here, Olly is eating and sleeping like a star. Have to say he had been such an easy baby so far. Long may it continue!!

Good luck to all the boldies and nearly boldies :)

Congratulations COMP and welcome to the world little Jessica. Beautiful name.

Hope all goes well today brunettegirl, keep us posted!

Trina hope you get a few answers from the appt today.

Birdie hand knitted stuff is the cutest ... I used to work in a nursing home so when I was having DD we got loads of cardies and blankets! You are lucky to have a manic knitter for a MIL - no one in my family knits - not even my grannies!

My tummy button is inside out now... yuck. DD uses it like an intercom button to talk to "tummy sister baby"! so luckily she doesn't find it as gross as DH & I do. It was her 2nd birthday yesterday so a busy and very fun day meant I was shattered by 9pm - went to bed and DD slept through til 7.15 (usually it's 6.30ish) so 10 hours sleep! I feel great today!

From what my friend told me, it seemed that a lot of the advice she got from midwives was rather old fashioned I.e feeding every 4 hours whereas actually for her to breast feed, feeding on demand was what worked & got her milk going. She'd also never been told about cluster feeding or 'hibernation' so she realised after going to the group, that the reason her baby was crying & hungry when she felt like she'd really been trying was because she's been taking her off the breast too soon, and trying to do 3-4 hour gaps.

And then she also got snarky comments from the health visitor about either making out she was feeding the baby too much - or not enough! My friend ended up in tears several times until she went to the group.

So it seemed for her that it was the type of information she got before and just after the birth was not actually helpful.

Congratulations COMP lovely name :) hope you make a speedy recovery x

Good luck today Brunettegirl, really hoping this is the end of waiting for you today and it's a pleasant and smooth experience that quashes your fears. It'll all be worth it when little one is in your arms x

AFM - my belly button is turning to an outty too, I keep showing it to OH as it's so weird! I don't seem to have put on much weight though, blaming my thyroid, only seem to weigh 5lbs more now than when I went for the 12w scan and I know baby is meant to weigh about 4lb-ish now. Didn't sleep again last night, if it happens again tonight I'll go back to the sofa as it's the most supportive for my bump.

Try https://www.ravelry.com/ You'll have to join, but it's free. There are tons of free patterns there, as well as patterns to buy. It is an American site though, and while I know that the crocheting terms are different between the two countries, I'm not sure about the knitting terms. Hth! :)

  • Congratulations COMP - beautiful name and healthy weight. Think you get to a point where you just don't care what they have to do to get the baby out, as long as baby comes out! Will look forward to a pic. Xx

Brunettegirl - hope the induction goes well and you get your gorgeous bump in your arms, very quickly.

Cloudy - can you believe we're still here?!? I'm starting to think this little fella is as stubborn as his dad can be!! Nothing works to help get him out - I've tried everything.

Belly buttons - mine hasn't popped out this time but I do get a real strong achey pain on the right side of belly button so am wondering if I have a hernia. I've religiously rubbed in bio oil/palmers and have managed to not get any stretch marks.....yet!

BabaMoose - re: funny things you do when you're bored - I thought I would be very MSE and save £35 per doggy haircut by buying some clippers from a fb group and doing it myself. I normally do the cavalier King Charles myself as he is extremely easy to trim & wash - he sat there enjoying his pamper session. The Shih tzu cross - enjoyed losing half his weight in hair and the attention he's now getting again. The Lhasa Apso - kept running off, dog hair all over me and the Utility Room. For an 'old boy' he would launch out of the cat flap with me then chasing him round the garden! I've given up and he's only half trimmed - his back is all done but his legs/tummy/face are not lol. I would now happily pay the £35 to get him done but am too embarrassed to take him out looking like that.

    Rexy - Looking good....

I use that for knitting patterns and there doesn't seem to be a difference between the US and UK/rest of world knitting terms, although I just google most of them lol

lots of 'modern' designs although you may find it's more down to the wool she chooses to use, I used a bamboo 'wool' for my niece's cardigan so it was smooth and sleek but the same design in a chunky wool would look well, chunky lol

Thanks!! Nothing happening here yet. Just in the waiting room for my midwife appt. Have had a few period-type pains but that's it!
