It really upsets me to think of any dog shut up in a house,or worse still a shed or the back garden and never getting any stimulation from a walk.A dog's greatest pleasure(apart from food!) is going out, running free and meeting other dogs and smelling and seeing new things.

Imagine if we were shut up in a house or yard all the time or at best had a walk round the garden twice a day.It is no way to live for such an intelligent, loving and faithful animal.

Like the title of this post says. Why bother to get a dog if you are not going to walk it ? There are some truly lazy and selfish people around.

Totally agree. I know some people who have dogs they show and some of them don't get walked because the owners don't want their fur messed up! A couple of them have treadmills! I think that is horrible and verging on cruel.

If you PM me enough details to identify her I'd be happy to do it, plus I could always get another trusted soul to do the same.

Thank you so much for your kind offer.

I was out walking my dogs today and seen owner in the garden, she called me over to chat. I felt so guilty and I have not even reported her and really don't think I could.

Dog was in the garden doing laps in and out of her house. She said that dog is nuts. The dog has so much energy to use up but she still can't see it. She mentioned the barking but i didn't comment on it as she takes no notice. I asked if she's walking the dog today since it was a nice day, she said 'I might' but I knew she wouldn't. I feel so sorry for the dog but its so hard reporting her or asking someone else to on my behalf but if I or anyone else doesn't complain then that dog will live a sad boring lonely life like her previous dog and the barking will only continue.

This is exactly how I see it. It really upsets me to walk past while out walking my dogs and see that dog looking out the window, its home alone and locked up for about 9 hours. Not only that but it gets no walks or even play time.

I posted here because I wonder why some people bother to get dogs then I get jumped on asking if I actually feel sorry for the dog or just ranting! If I feel sorry for the dog then 'I' should walk it. I looked after the dog for the first 6 months but have two of my own and my own life to lead plus as I said owner has never bothered to train the dog so it was all too much for me.

The dog would jump up constantly and roll over under my feet for a good 30 minutes so i couldnt get in out the house or even walk, sit and bark when I'm eating, run off with my clothes off radiator, airer, nip/bite, run laps around the house and garden like a dog on speed. Owner told me today the dog still does all this plus excessive barking and still toileting indoors. She has not bothered to train the dog so it is out of hand. I tried to help train but owner was just letting dog get away with everything so I was wasting my time. It also wasn't my job to train her as she should be trained by her master. As you can see the dog is clearly the boss in the house and always will be.

Had the owner been incapable of walking then I would take the dog out but she is just bone idle so why should I or anyone else be taken advantage of. Maybe she will learn one day soon but I can't see it.

What a peaceful day today has been. I wish I or someone had reported the barking sooner. The report was followed up in only two days, letter sent out and a visit to owner today. Owner is very shocked that someone has complained but if the dog was doing her own head in can you imagine what it was like for neighbours in the area who have no control to shut the dog up. There is quite a few on night shift who will have been disturbed by the barking mad dog.

She would leave the dog barking in garden and not even call it indoors or shut it up but today has been so peaceful after someone has been out to speak to her about it. Dog still has no life though as she still won't be walked and it will only be locked up indoors more since owner is scared to let her out in garden for long.

I don't know exactly what was said but I know she has been threatened with eviction if the barking is not controlled. I wonder if someone will be out on different days/times to record any noise or whether nothing else will be done unless there is another complaint.

I am amazed not only that complaints were acted on so quickly but acted on at all. I wonder if it is possibly because I take it the house is council or housing association?

The boxer across the road from has caused a problem with its barking for a few years now. I know at least 3 people that have complained and I know for sure that an environmental noise officer came out in the early hours of the morning (I think about 4am) and told one of the complainers that the noise was out of order and neighbours should not have to put up with it. Well nothing has ever come of that. The dog still barks most of the day well into very late evening and sometimes during the night.

Hmm I see an opportunity here, I am thinking along the lines of a revolutionary invention which I think I will call the dog brush! This item which I hope to design will un-mess dog fur!

Owners house is housing association. I think they are more strict with complaints than council? What I am annoyed about is that owner told the person who visited today that there's others dogs in the area including mine. He wasn't bothered about them though as he said those owners (including me) live in private houses whereas owner lives in rented and can be evicted. There are lots of dogs in my area but only one causing a problem. My dogs bark at strangers and dogs passing but it is not often and doesn't go on for longer than 30 seconds, it's territorial and I'm happy they are alerting me someone is about. They don't bark at neighbours passing. They have never been problem barkers, causing a nuisance in the garden. I take them on daily walks/runs 2 - 3 times per day so mine are not bored and don't have much energy left to bark at nothing.

Barking dogs don't bother me but this one has been a nuisance for so long and it's the fact owner is doing nothing about it that has bothered me and others around the area as she won't even walk the dog or call it in when its barking constantly.

It sounds like someone's complained to the HA, rather than to the council. Unfortunately, they are all mouth, no trousers in my experience. :(

The housing association that owns a few houses around my area seem to take complaints seriously and they have acted on this complaint a lot quicker than I expected. Infact I didn't think they would follow up an anonymous complaint, I am thinking maybe there have been more than one complaint for them to actually send a letter to owner, phone and come out? Even if they are all mouth no action, at least owner now knows the barking is annoying others and it has certainly frightened her as dog has not been left to bark in garden all day. It has barked constantly each time it has been let out from late afternoon until now but only for up to 5 mins, that I can put up with, hours on end I can't.

I have a bulldog who doesn't like walks he will do the odd little trot, maybe 200 yards at most and after that he will drag to go home unless he still hasn't had a poo. He is a very lazy (and stupid) dog if you don't literally drag him out in the morning before work he will happily lay in his basket until dinner time without having a wee or a poo. He doesn't bark as much here, but as we live in a flat he doesn't see as many people walking by to bark at like he used to when we had a house.

Yes dogs bark, but it is normally quite clear when a dog is barking because its bored/unhappy. Its good that the issue has been investigated but seems to have inadvertently made the situation worse for the dog. But maybe if the dog is now inside all day it might annoy her enough for her to get rid of it.
