NatWest offer accepted
Thank you so much Martin. Your website and step by step guide to reclaiming charges has paid off. It's taken about 3 months or so, but I've just had £1620 (about £200 less than I asked for) put into my Natwest account. We've had a similar offer on our joint account, and are hoping that we will receive something similar for my OH's accounts (should be around £2000). Next step will be to close all our NatWest accounts and stick to HSBC who have been great with us since we joined them a year ago.
Another win in the face of the negative press recently. I really can't thank you enough.

Bank: Barclays
Claim: £5590 (including interest)
Amount repaid: £5590
I went through the whole MSE process, and ended up taking Barclays to court through Money claim on line. Having looked through successes for hours i came across one for Barclays with a name and telephone number of some who had helped this previous success story. So I rang the number and it turned out to be someone in Barclays litigation department, they weren't dealing with my case but were dealing with my husbands. they gave me the name and number of the person who was dealing with my case, and when i rang her she said that Barclays file a defence as a matter of course, and when they had done that to ring her back and they would settle!!!! and it was literally as simple as that. So the day they filed the defence I rang her, and she just asked me to fax her the list of charges (with interest) which I did, then within an hour, yes an hour all the money was in the bank. I claimed £3500 for myself in bank charges and £ 2090 for my husband, and Barclays paid every penny!! Thank you Martin. The number i rang for the litigation department at Barclays was 0207 1161943. HIs name was Dino and was so helpful. Just give him your moneyclaim court case number and he will put you in touch with the person who is dealing with your claim. He even said "dont' be afraid of the defence, its a computerised standard defence" and once they've filed it you can settle. Easy as that. thank you martinxxxxxxxx0 -

Claimed against my MBNA Virgin Credit card.
Amount claimed: £1392
Amount awardd: £1196
The story:
Sent off for my statements, which arrived quite quickly, returned my information and requested a refund. They refunded £540 immediately as a goodwill gesture which I gratefully accepted. I wrote back saying that I intended to continue with the court action, and got a letter back with a further offer of £656, which I have accepted as full and final settlement.
Very happy - and in total the process has taken around 8 weeks.

Bank: Lloyds TSB
Amount re-claimed: £255.00
Amount they paid: £295.00
Initially, they sent a letter trying to make out I didn't know what i was talking about (some standardised letter referring to credit card charges, not bank charges!) When i knew how much they owed me, i combined Martin's steps 3 and 4 (ask for it back/threaten legal action) and hey presto! They then paid me £40 more than i had asked!! Thank you, Martin !!!! :T0 -
Bank: Lloyds TSB
Amount Reclaimed: £435
Amount they paid: £480
The story:
Sent my first letter, they replied saying sorry but its in our policy blah blah blah. Second letter I threatened to take them to court, heard nothing from them for at least 3weeks. Third letter sent another court letter saying it was definate that it was going to court. Then about 2-3weeks later I recieved a GoodWill Refund of £480 to my account, which was more than what I had worked out!
MY ADVICE: DO NOT give up on getting at your bank if they say they cannot do anything. KEEP AT THEM.
Thanks Martin!!!0 -

I WON!!
Bank: RBOS
Amount Reclaimed: £3803
Amount they paid: £3803
The story: Request for payment received by RBOS on 10th April and couple of days later received letter informing me they were considering my claim. Emailed Sandy Watt on the 2nd May to find out what stage my claim was at and got quick reply telling me they would issue their response to my claim, within time-scales, as set by FSA (ie 8 wks). Much as I wanted to send next letter off decided to be patient and wait and see if they did reply before 5th June. And today they did! Got letter saying blah blah, they believe their charges are lawful, blah, blah but as a gesture of goodwill they will credit the amount of £3803.00 into my account. So happy, was beginning to worry about the next stage. So stick in there everyone and GOOD LUCK.0 -
Bank: Nationwide
Claim: £30
Refund: £30
Started process with all the usual letters, and the usual response from bank, you knew what the conditons were etc, refuse to refund charges.
Sent final letter explaining that they knew and I knew the charges were not proportionate to their costs but if they dont refund I will go to court and it will cost them more than the £30.
Got letter back within a few days refunding the whole ammount.
Dont let them grind you down keep on at them and they will back down.
