How to silence a car?

I never realised one could get so much pleasure out of having a noisy car.
My kids enjoy making loud noises with their toys too I suppose. I'm just off to get some clothes pegs and cut up a cornflake packet to make my bike sound a bit beefier.0 -

No comment on the cornflake box, but it's not the noise - it's the performance. The noise is a by-product.
It's also the reason that F1 cars aren't silent. I'm sure Schumacher was in it for the noisy car :A MSE's turbo-charged CurlyWurlyGirly:AThinks Naughty Things Too Much Clique Member No 3, 4 & 5

Ah OK, I see now. So it isn't really the noise that's gorgeous then, it's the speed and the acceleration? But noise is proportional to performance and is inevitable? And this silencer that you can put on the exhaust somehow impairs the performance, otherwise you'd leave it on all the time right?
In that case I'd better make sure I eat the cornflakes before cutting up the box, just to "fill my tank" as it were. Hell, I'm not even going to put my finger on the strip of cardboard to silence it when cycling through built up areas.
This sounds like fun! I can't wait to give it a go tomorrow morning. I just hope my neighbours will hear me, cos I'm getting up extra early and I'm really going to be doing some furious pedalling!0 -

silencer takes about 5bhp off. I can spare it - I still have 340 left.
see you around North Cardiff sometime - I'm always very courteous to cyclists.:A MSE's turbo-charged CurlyWurlyGirly:AThinks Naughty Things Too Much Clique Member No 3, 4 & 5

Ha, ha. Cheers.
I'm always courteous to all the Porche drivers I pass on my way to work too. A mate of mine in work bought an Evo recently and gets really annoyed when I coast past him in the City Road queues every morning.
I doubt I'd see him for dust on Manor Way though.

A few years ago my daily commute was from Ealing to The City. Believe me, negotiating Marble Arch is terrifying on a bike. Glad I don't now work in London!0

I'd not go near a bike in London - waaaaaaaaaaaaay too scary. I learnt to ride a bike on the Taff Trail!!!! Only predatoras were giant stinging nettles!!!!

This will have been against the "cool" boy racer cars of the time like the Escort RS Cosworths etc.
Watch this video to see how a Skoda Favorit compares to an Audi A4 and a Nissan X :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

i am lucky enough to live in the country but close to a main road. i am a car fan and used to like the sound of a performance car passing now and then. but after 12 years and the increase of some people fitting noisy exit pipes, its getting silly. we now have this monitored. the motor bikes are as bad.0
