How to silence a car?

I'm appealing to anyone who may know something about engines.Wretched anti-social neighbours have a knackered old car which they insist on driving up and down our otherwise quiet road late at night, roaring the engine as loudly as possible. I think they think they are Jeremy Clarkson or something. Is there a way of getting their car to operate more quietly? ;)

OP you'd hate living near me and my OH, even if they can make their car quieter theyre not going to and if you say anything to them my guess is they'll just end up driving past just to annoy you, so id keep schtum. Some cars are just generally noisey though and in that case, so what??? Lifes far too short to worry about noisy cars, go out and buy a louder one!

Did they ask you for help or are they just anoying you?

Forcing open the bonnet and pinching the battery and all the leads will make the car very quiet.

I think it's part of the MOT test that the parts designed to silence the car work properly.

To make the car quiet, stick loads of gear oil in the engine through the oil filler.

Or if you cannot get access to the bonnet, and the petrol cap does not lock. Urinating in the petrol filler will give immense satisfaction, but filling it with sugar will do the trick.

Vandalising cars just because of noise is pathetic.
