  • Flat Eric - I've had a clear out of mags and the cover kits recently although I probably had nowhere near as many as you but I could see where it was going. :o I went through them a couple of times and removed any charts (very strict on whether to keep or not) and stored charts in plastic wallets. All the mags that were still in tact and remaining cover kits that I did not want, I took to the local cancer charity shop in memory of Soulie. Hopefully they will do a little bit of good. I toyed with the idea of fleabay but there are so many mags on there and when you looked at what they might go for and all the hassle that goes with fleabay I decided not to bother with that one. Good luck with your sort out. ;)

Lovely work everyone. I am 'trying' knitting at the moment. I have learnt how to cast on and off (thanks to Mrs M). I am just kniting some squares and thinking of making them into a little cushion. Watch out Mrs M - I will be back for the best way to stitch them together. They maybe don't look brilliant but I will see what happens. :rotfl: I have just about completed the 3rd 20cm square :j

    Have a good day everyone.

Meanwhile, I have a bit of a stitchy dilemma which I have been putting off thinking about. I need to have a massive spring clean, a ruthless, it must go spring clean. This does include my cross stitch stash. I've been stitching for a long time now and have accumulated an awful lot of stash including hundreds (and hundreds) of magazines. I can't keep these indefinitely but likewise I can't face the prospect of simply putting all of them out in one fell swoop for recycling, that would just be wrong so what do I do with them all?

Its going to take an awful long time to sort through them all, something which as I say, I've been putting off so I'd be grateful if you would offer any suggestions or tips - do I just keep all the mags (and rent storage) :rotfl:how ruthless should I be/how best to sort through / do I keep the whole mag/or cut out the charts I like? etc !

If I cut out the charts, how do I store - old issues of cross stitcher used to have pages bigger than A4 so would need to be cut to size to fit in A4 pockets and if I simply hole punch and stick in a folder, its inevitable that I'm going to end up punching through the chart !

It seems wrong to be considering just recycling the lot but that of course is the easier option and I would I guess keep certain bumper publications? Some mags haven't been looked through since purchase which is as long ago as ten plus years so why am I keeping them?

If you don't have the space to store them you have to be ruthless!!

Set yourself a target number to look through every night, maybe 5 issues? Remove any you WILL use and store in punch pockets. If you trim off the Cross stitcher charts they will fit.

Ensure any cover kits have the charts with them or remove from magazine, fold and tuck inside. If you know you will never do them donate to CS or keep for recruiting new cross stitchers ;)

It might take weeks to do them all but afterwards all the charts you want will be all organised in a folder(s) perfect for browsing through when looking for your next project.

    Hi everyone,

    ***WARNING***MAMMOTH POSTING ALERT!!****

mrs mp - LOVE the tiger cub - just too cute. The cards are lovely too :)

chickywiggle - Lovely valentines card. The Halloween stitching is lovely too. I've not thought about stitching for Halloween before, but now........

fos - who is the superhero name plate for - looking good already. I love your latest framed piece, the colours are really nice.

maria - nice flower. Shame you got grief for having to give up the Rainbows. Maybe they could have a parent rota to give them the coverage they need. Volunteers are so under-rated imho.

kezbabybabe - dictionary of tea is looking fab. Won't be long til you finish.

Mrs_T_M - lovely stitching. My particular favourite is the owl design :)

ERICS MUM - the Jack Russell is adorable and I love the poppy - so detailed. You stitch really quickly!!!

tricksie - can't believe you only have another 5 projects in your stash ;) The latest design is very stylish.

nmm - BD looking great - how many more pages?

beg - the heart tree looks lovely framed.

Ailsb - Henry looking good - great vibrant colours.

*Louise* - sorry to hear you've been poorly, hope you're on the mend. Love the African Sunset design.

JCS1 - the quilts look AMAZING.

sweetcarer - Nice to 'see' you. Very pretty wedding sampler - hope the recipients liked it.

Emily926 - cute card - was that for valentines?

I haven't picked up my cross stitch since we've been back as skiing washing takes FOREVER and my bedroom looks like a sports direct stock room. All dry now though and will be up in the loft tonight when DH gets home.

I am on stocking 3 of 6 and am trying to do some of the black background each time to lessen the pain :rotfl: We have a silver wedding party to go to in September so I'm going to stitch them a celebratory piece. Going for the nia design one (can't post a link as it crashes my laptop ) I'm also crocheting and knitting some pieces for the church harvest and Christmas displays - nothing like early planning ;)

    Have a good evening all

  • BD really is a work of art and a true labour of love

i fancied a change from back stitch tonight so had a rummage through my stash and found a pack of fabrics i won a couple of years ago from one of the magazines. ive got a piece of linen and am having a play with some varigated thread. cant remember the spelling as ive put the pak back in the cupboard it starts with Z im sure youll know it (ill have a look next time im in the cupboard). anyway the linen is the most beautiful fabric ive ever stitched on, im really enjoying doing this.

A bit of catchup to do, i've been reading but not posting. For those that remember my dog Tikaani, she still has siezures only they've progressed to Cluster Seizures, she has 3 at a time now one after the other. Its so scary and stressful for her when she has one, but then she recovers 6-8 hours later and is back to normal. Shes such a playful muppet the rest of the time, its just sad that she has these stupid seizures.

Erics Mum, the poppy looks beautiful, i'm going to do my remembrance fields after BD.

Mrs T_M, the owls are cute, perfect for a nursery, good luck with getting pregnant :)

Chicky, any news on little bear?

FOS, lovely framed work, i too like the reflection its very pretty.

Mrs moneypenny, nessie lives well in cross stitch anyway. Tiger cub is adorable and will look good as a cushion.

*Louise*, i hope you are feeling better, african horizon looks great.

Maria, nice youtube clip, i could do a similar thing with BD but i think all the pictures are different sizes and lighting. Might give it a shot anyway.

JCS1, the quilts are brilliant, can anyone spot there own stitched pieces?
