Lots more to do but still enjoying the challenge! How do others stop evenweave from fraying? Any tips?
Have a good evening all

You are very welcome - I just couldn't bear the thought of a 3rd week without you having your exchange piece. Now you have 2 which seems only right considering how much longer than anyone else you had to wait.
Your sampler is looking lovely. Fraying is one of the few disadvantages of evenweave. I oversew the edges using my sewing machine - I find it is by far the fastest and most effective way. Masking tape around the edges works but you have to cut it off - don't be tempted to remove the masking tape by pulling. For small pieces trimming with pinking shears is ok but it doesn't last for larger pieces. Or you could turn over a small double hem and hand stitch it with a running stitch if you don't have any of the above available.
Others may have other suggestions.0 -
coxy that is lovely, very kind of you fos
i agree with the even weave advice id don't over sewing by hand round my last piece but will def use the machine and zigzag next timeSPC~12 ot 124

Did anyone watch Great British Christmas Sewing Bee? Makes me want to whip the sewing machine out0 -
My OH has been pestering me about what I would like for xmas.... As usual I can't make up my mind. I did think about the complete set of dmc threads but that's way out of budget. You should have seen his face when I showed him the pic (and told him the price :rotfl:)
There isn't actually anything I want stitchy wise this year. I have more than enough to keep me busy and there has (I feel) been a distinct lack of new things I've liked on sew and so.
What has everyone asked for xmas wise? I don't mean stitchy stuff - I just mean in general. I find it hard to pick stuff as usually if there is soemthing I want, I just buy it. I can't make up my mind whether to put any xmas money I might get towards a new gadget - the kindle paperwhite perhaps or if I get lots of pennies, plus using some of savings, upgrading my IPOD touch. or buying some new fangled kitchen gadget - a new mixer appeals!0 -
I'm the same as you Flat Eric, if I want something I buy it, I don't wait for xmas/birthdays etc. My OH said what do I want for my birthday a few days ago and I said I got my dmc set and he just laughed
BD update time, he has the makings of a nose :rotfl:
Here is a couple of xmas cards I made, other than the exchange piece I just couldn't be bothered this year, don't know why
EDIT: Oh almost forgot my dmc boxes arrived from ebay this morning, great service. Guess what i'll be doing tomorrowCross Stitch Cafe Member No1WIP: Cross Stitch: - Crochet:0 -

Next December soon enough for you?
I recorded the programme but haven't watched it yet I enjoyed the first series and hope they do another one even though I doubt it will ever be as popular as the Bake Off series0 -
Good Morning Girls
Got the morning off for hospital appointment , but thought I check on here and see whats happening.flowerofscotland wrote: »Learning sampler is lovely. I enjoy stitching eyelets but they do take a while to complete (well they do when I stitch them anyway).
Is the America Land that we Love the Design by Jean Farish? I used to have this downloaded as free designs and I can't recall if I printed it out or not - the pc I saved it on is long gone. I like the Victoria Sampler Hearts of America designs - I've stitched a couple of them as gifts in the past and a friend of mine has done all of them in a simply stunning sampler http://www.victoriasampler.com/Catalogue/Hearts_of_America/
Inspired by your posts I have bought the Twisted Band Sampler (it's a present to me from a dear friend) and am really looking forward to starting it. I hope to find time over Christmas to sort out the threads for it - I will be using standard DMC as I don't think it needs anything else
Yes it is Jean Farish's pattern. I need to sit down and work out what threads I need. If it is all whole stitches and back stitch I might do it on 18hpi.
I, too, might start the twisted band sampler next year (at some point don't know when). I also will use standard DMC. Feel honoured that you choose it because of my posting. It looks totally wonderful and colourful. My OH has been pestering me about what I would like for xmas....

I can't proper sew right - I can put on button, turn up my trousers (being a half pint I have to). I look at my purple works and wonder should I turn them into cushions or frame them. But some would have to help me with the cushions idea.
Think I will do that over the holidays is frame up some of my items and get them up on the wall - I have some items that I saved from my house fire but the frames are beyond repair but the stitching just needs a good wash. I get sad when I look at them too, and think what I lost - sorry for my emotions.
Well better go and get ready - catch you all soon

Hi everyone, just popped on to let you know I'm still around but stitching Elvis isn't going to plan at the minute as life is dealing me some hefty blows.
I'm finding it a struggle to deal with the festivities as its the first xmas without my dad and in 3 weeks it'll be a year since he passed.
But if that wasn't bad enough one of my gorgeous cats was hit by a car on sunday and diedI'm devastated and can't stop crying. My other cat has become extra clingy and sits by the backdoor waiting for his sister to come home.
To put it bluntly I hate my life at the minute
I'll keep popping in too have a nosy at what your doing and will try to come on over xmas, however in the meantime I wish you all a merry xmas and hope your life is way better than mine xx0 -
Awww, PM - hugs xxx0
