Really wish we could have something white instead of the dark grey and black that we have been living in. Driving along roads here - at least those that are still passable - is like driving along a river bed.

However we braved the gales and torrents to go for our posh afternoon tea.
Heaven! We were shown to a sofa in front of a roaring log fire and invited to make ourselves at home. A cafetiere was produced and we sat and marvelled at the sheer comfort of it all. Then tea was produced and laid out on a coffee table in front of us. Would you like to know what a Deluxe Afternoon Tea consists of. Prepare to dribble.

Tiny cucumber and something sandwiches, small squares of toast with smoked salmon, scones still warm from the oven with homemade jam and cream, individual victoria sponges, honey cakes, little tartlets filled with an apricot moussey stuff, tiny macaroons, little madelines, little cubes of caramel and crystalised ginger, small glass bowls with something creamy in the bottom, then some chocolatey stuff decorated with chocolate strands and berries, and a large pot of tea. We did our best but couldn't manage all of it. What we didn't eat was boxed up and presented to us to take home.
    The best Christmas present ever.

We rang my DS and DIL to thank them and heard that my autistic GS has been the only child in his class to be promoted to the Secondary Department in his Special School. Also that he is the most polite and kindest boy in the school. Apparently he just looks after everyone.
This means more to me than all the academic achievements in the world.

A very happy and proud Monna is taking herself off to bed.

A well deserved treat for you Monna. About time you got something so lovely and blessing on your Gs.

We babysat for Dgs so his Mummy and Daddy could have a lovely meal at a friends new restaurant. We are terrible babysitters he was still up and painting a picture when they got back :o whoops. Apparently he went straight to bed and fast asleep before we got home :T Perfect valentine night for us though, cuddles and kisses off little man. He was laughing at us as we left cheeky monkey, think he knew he had conned us into staying up.

Morning toughies - hope you are all safe and well today after last nights incredible storms again.

Monna - that sounds like a perfect afternoon, and DGS has done amazingly well, I am surprised you havent burst with pride :)

Ginny - Naughty naughty!! :) Am glad you enjoyed your evening with your DGS also :)

OH had booked a table, but turns out he had called wrong place - we ended up in a pub that was loud, had drunken louts shouting and falling over, we were stuck in a corner right next to the door and then they had a quiz night, with a woman who couldnt pronounce the words she was given and didnt understand the questions either. The food was dire!
I did sit envying Monna and her lovely peaceful afternoon tea!!
Quiet, romantic and peaceful it was not.

Off to do my shopping today and buy some kitty things, namely food, collar and blanket for the journey home. Was tempted by a bed but in reality our cats have never slept in cat beds, preferring almost anything instead so it would be a total waste of money. We had a shelf in the old house which had florist baskets stored on it (for when I did flowers in church) we often had a line of baskets stuffed with cats, all with bits overhanging! :)

Stay safe today you lovely lot! :)

Kidcat: It's amazing where cats choose to sleep. I have a wonderful photograph of a beautiful basket of fruit used as a table decoration with a large ginger cat draped over the fruit. Eventually we gave up putting fruit in the basket and just had a table decoration of a basket of ginger cat.
Blessings on you and the new member of your family.

We were nearly blown away during the night. A length of trellis met its end and the garden is full of things blown in from goodness knows where. DS2 off on the ferry to pick up DGS for half term. DGS will love a rough crossing. Can't say the same for his Dad.

Morning all. Your posts are making me smile and laugh this morning, even Kidkats valentine evening. At least DH made the effort of booking something, always better than having to sort everything yourself. Loved the posts about afternoon tea, brilliant grandchildren and the ginger cat.

    Have a great day everyone.

burtha: Love it! Calling a big black cat Snowflake. Just my sense of humour. We had a big black cat once and that was his name. BBC for short.
The Rev has just taken a wedding in the church next door. The bride obviously thought that it was going to be very wintery, possibly snowy. The bridesmaids are all in red velvet with white furry capes. Actually, although still blowing a gale the sun is out and the sky is blue. The guests look as though they are going to a funeral as they are all mostly in black. To avoid disappointing the bride someone has brought a snow machine but the Rev has persuaded them that it would be much better at the reception.
I have just looked out of the window and there are three men standing in our drive holding large boxes of confetti. NOOOOOOO!
