Fuddle - 3% is a very good pay rise to get at the moment. Lots of people STILL aren't getting a rise after several years of no rises.0

Kidcat, where on earth did they catch that?? Is it scarlatina?0

Evening all,
Kidcat, my sympathies. My only real knowledge of scarlet fever is from a children's book called the velveteen rabbit, but I understand it is much less of a thing these days! I wouldn't suggest the book for the boys as they sound a bit old for it as I remember it and it might frighten them since it was written before antibiotics, but perhaps when they're better, its a nice story.
SQ hope your OH is coming round and a bit more cheerful.
Stiltwalker--HOORAY! I hope she loves every minute of it!
So glad that Gailey has found a place to move, I do hope that it works out for her.
I hope you all stay safe! I'm still full of cold and had a long work day, but on the plus I'm still on schedule and my grandmother has sent me a lovely hm bookmark in the post.
Right, peppermint tea, a bit of iplayer and another early night for me. Hugs to any and all who need them.x
p.s. Princess, how is the wedding planning going?0 -

Yes Mar, it looks like school, we had a warning email from school giving us info a few days ago, which was rather good timing as when I saw the rash this morning I knew what I was looking for. The GP orginally looked at me when I said I thought it was scarlet fever and said oh I don't think so, I have never seen a case. Then she looked at the rash and his mouth and said well I never!
DD7 looks like its a definite as she has been up crying with sore throat, so back to GP tomorrow for medicine for her too
Florence - hope your tree survived the evening
Weather here is still raging, alot of local roads are closed and its looking bad out there for many.
Electrician came out earlier and fixed the hall light, was very quick and reasonable, he even shortened the pendant wire to make it harder for DS9 to reach.
FPK - have never read the velveteen rabbit, hope you feel a little better in the morning
Kez - good news that gailey found somewhere so quick, pass on our best wishes please0 -

Kidcat: The Velveteen Rabbit - super story and lots of good lessons for life. Works on lots of levels.
Scarlet Fever is minor these days I believe. When I was a child it meant being carted off to the Isolation Hospital, your bedroom being fumigated and all toys destroyed. Dreadful.
We had a shocking storm last night - Thunder that shook the house and lightning at the same time, gale force wind, hail and rain coming down in torrents. Hoping it is a bit quieter tonight.
I've had such a fun day. Finished making our wills and then straight round to the Funeral Directors to do a pre-paid funeral. Fortunately the Rev has a hilarious relationship with the FDs so we had red carpet treatment. We both wanted things as simple as possible but the cost, with no frills at all, would make you weep.
Talking of weeping, the Rev said she didn't want anything gloomy. No crying or sadness. I said that on the contrary I wanted lots of crying, sobbing, wailing, gnashing of teeth and people prostrating themselves with grief all over the place. The FD said that he would do what he could but couldn't guarantee it. However, for a fairly large monetary consideration he would undertake to do a bit of grief prostrating and tooth gnashing, not to mention sobbing and wailing himself. I passed. It was expensive enough as it was.
Just look at the time. This was going to be an early night.

Have been on a course from work today. Spent the day in a classroom and had no idea about the storm that has been rageing, took 5 hours to complete a 40 minute train journey. It has been a very long day.I am playing all of the right notes just not necessarily in the right order

Sorry don't want to worry you but my mother had it as a child and suffered minor heart damage. I thought it had been irradiated?I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.0 -
