Sorry to hear about OH's relative Princess. Hope your mum's appeal goes ok. Hang in there, you both have a lot to look forward to next year.

Enjoy your NYE plans Monnagran and Mrs C.

Hope your cold goes soon alfsmum. Look after yourself, nice bowls of soup if you don't feel hungry.

Possession, great news on your OH's interview...everything crossed and also the fencing.

We are in this eve as we have been ever since we had our babies. I told boys that could stay, up as late as they liked.
However if they do make it to 12 they can have a few more mins before being packed off to bed. DH didn't seem impressed by the idea but last year even DS9 (who loves staying up late) asked to go to bed at 10pm. We have nothing planned for NY Day other than a nice meal and family games (and a walk if the rain holds off) so it doesn't matter if they are up late for once.

I was thinking last night that I haven't had any indigestion this festive season despite all the extra sweet and rich food. This morning I have a mild dose so am starting my healthier eating plan as of now. Can't stand the pain when it gets bad. my friend thinks I may have gall stones like she has but I only get bad pains now and then after lots of rich food or when I get really stressed. I will try and alter my habits for 2014 first and see what happens before going to the docs.

I remembered last year on NYD or day after I had terrible indigestion. We always have lots of different cheeses and crackers on NYE and champers. This year I am not drinking alcohol (haven't for a few months now) so DH can have some ballys rip off or beer and I will have fruity sparkling water. I am going to do a family dinner with plenty of veg and DH can have cheese and crackers later.

Added to the many reasons to get some weight off (running round after 2 lads the best one) I have 2 more embarrassing ones:

put on a clean nightshirt last night.... was very snug and I felt annoyed it had shrunk in the wash..... this morning I realised the awful truth

playing twister (I have my own rules for my positions cos of me back... no rude comments please) DS9 said that my bottom is as big as his whole body. It was said in the right spirit as we were all teasing each other. Been viewing said bottom in the wardrobe mirror and I am surprised it hasn't been given it's own postcode by now

    (why can't I post smilies?)

off to wash up and be vaguely useful

Princess just awful. You have so much on your plate :( Electric only here too P, were a small 2 bed consisting of living and kitchen, spiral staircase in living room. 2 small bedrooms and a bathroom. We are using the oil filled mobile rads still, that the landlord provided, while they wonder and faff about replacing/fixing the night storage heaters. Were having to keep them on low constantly, even at night, because its a damp. Its costing us £30 every 4 days but even that is £70 cheaper than what we were paying in the old house with poor gas central heating 2 Decembers ago. We had 2 christmas lunches in 2 days and found that the oven depleted the credit really badly. The tumble dryer is really quite efficient so Im pleased we researched that one. I am not a fan of prepayment - their rates are stupidly high compared to a credit meter. I can change to a credit meter but when I returned the call my supplier were only accepting calls from customers who were in an emergency. Its gone on the ever long to do list.

My neighbour said the lady who lived here before us owned a couple of hair salons in the area. She said the tumble dryer would rumble day and night. She suspects she would be washing salon towels. She said that she must have done it without a condenser or the hose out of the window because the windows were in a pretty constant fog. Id agree with that because the rust on the kitchen panel heater is ridiculous and the mould when we moved in was awful :(

So Im suspecting a dehumidifyer. We can get an industrial one on hire (DH links ;) ) but I know how much they cost to run and right now I just need to get my budgets stable.

Curtains - all taken up but er, 1 is longer than the other. So Ive that to fix today. Good thing is theres surplus material for a draught excluder and a few scatter cushion covers :)

Shopping arrived this morning so a tin of pea and ham soup for lunch. I got lamb cuts in 3 for £10 meat deal so that will be a treat tonight along with spring greens and mashed potato/mashed turnip - forgotten what that is called!

A kitchen clean, tidy, iron and wash load in and then at work from 7-10pm.

Princess if you are all electric then £20 sounds good. Your oven and kettle will use a lot.

As fuddle says prepayment costs more so I would guess the only way of cutting the costs would be to switch to regular meter.

    Finally caught up!
Monnagran - that party sounds awesome. Even I wouldn't mind that sort of religious gathering lol.
We were out early and did Costco and Sainsbugs - rain as usual lashing down like hell. So now I've got my cake and my Cointreau and even my half-price-in-the-M&S sale towels arrived. Plus a fabulous creepy supernatural demon book from Amazon at 1p. Life can hold no more!

Thanks sq I did indeed have soup for lunch - HM from leftover carrots, toms, onion, a potato, and a good pinch of chilli to cut through this cold. Couldn't really taste anything but I'm sure it did me good. Just worked my way through a large orange and will probably have another in a minute, I am so thirsty all the time with the snuffle s and sneezes. Hope your New Year evening in is good fun and that the indigestion doesn't play up. I had terrible pain from gallstones a few years back but didn't want surgery so have kept to a low fat diet ever since and it works for me, no more pain. I am veggie anyway and don't eat cheese, cream, full fat dairy and don't like eggs. Sounds a bit boring to outsiders but I wouldn't want to change it; I eat industrial quantities of fruit and veg, salads, soups, good quality bread, fat free yoghurt (try the zero fat Greek, it is really creamy), cereals (porridge every day, even Christmas Day :rotfl:), hummus, breadsticks, HM jam, tea cakes, I never go hungry. My weight stays around 8 stone which is fine for 5 foot 6, and I want to keep it that way to avoid all the joint problems that older members of my family have had with carrying extra weight. Not eating meat means that I can spend a bit more on really nice fruit when I have zthe urge for some out of season berries, but I do try to eat locally and with the seasons as far as possible,

PX87 so sorry you have yet more on your plate. Take care of yourself and your OH. I have a feeling that 2014 will be a better year for many if us.

A very Happy New Year to everyone if I don't check in again today. May 2014 be all you want it to be.

Am the same Alfsmum, have gallstones but don't want to get them out really. I'm eating low carb and lowish fat and high porridge lol
  • Hello everyone :)

Just popping in to wish you all a very Happy New Year.........hope it brings everyone what they want!!!!

I've made a long list of NY resolutions (as I do every year) but most are practical "suggestions" rather than resolutions. I'm another one really struggling with my weight but, unfortunately, in the other direction! I currently weight six and a half stone and look dreadful. The feeding tube keeps me alive but I struggle so much to gain a pound. I'm hoping this is the year that I can somehow work a way around this - now if you could all send me the weight you lose I'd be very grateful!!!

Quiet evening for us tonight - my OH has been working long hours again so I suspect he'll be asleep on the sofa by nine - I shall see the New Year in on my own with a small glass of something nice!

Anyway, my thanks to you all once again and good wishes for 2014 - one resolution is to try and post more often!!!

    Love to everyone,
    Debbie xx

Debbie, I've got plenty of weight I can send you. You can have some quite significant boobs for a start, I'll be very pleased to be rid of them.
We seem to have another lazy day happening here, although need to pull the finger out and get all the xmas stuff put away properly, I don't want it hanging around into the new year.
Lovely news from a dog rescue I follow that they've managed to capture the little bichon that escaped from her foster carer's car at a service station - she's been out since Sunday, and everyone was worried she'd be completely spooked tonight by the fireworks, and run onto the motorway. I am currently battling with myself not to take in another rescue ex-breeder girl, as I know it isn't sensible. It's hard though, and DH is no use, he says we can do whatever I want!
Wishing everyone a very happy New Year, I hope 2014 will be a better, more prosperous (in all ways) and happier year for all of us.
  • To all my Doorstep friends
I wish you all the best new year possible, there may be trouble ahead but with friends like you we will make it through. Whatever you are doing tonight, enjoy. Bless you all.
