PX87 when my DD got married in August she said she wanted it to be the best 'party' we'd ever have and it was, partly due to the fact that she kept the whole thing very informal even the service and threw convention rather a long way out of the window. Yes she did have a meringue dress but it came from Oxfam and yes they had the ceremony at the licenced venue not in church which kept everything relaxed and cosy. We had a lovely meal and the venue allowed home made cupcakes for dessert and we laughed and were happy and never for a second felt like standing on ceremony. Keep it simple and have the day YOU want, and only that, it'll be super, Lyn xxx.
  • Princess we did our wedding on a similar budget - it was personal and intimate and people commented it was the most relaxed and friendly wedding they had ever been to.

I think there is a thread on the family, relationships and whatever its called thread about budget weddings and bound to be one on here too. We will help you, just ask away.

We didn't pay for anything professional or specifically wedding branded other than my dress - an inexpensive bridesmaid dress which was perfect as I didn't want white/cream and our house , the reception venue wouldn't have allowed for a big dress and lots of guests! Also had a wedding car but that was arranged by family as a present and not our choice - but a very lovely surprise.

We did our own food. I made a cake, invites, my bouquet (silk flowers from ebyegumbay), button holes (made from £ shop silk flowers!!), decs, table coverings etc

If you don't need anything desperately for the house you could ask for wedding help/things as a gift eg someone do the photos, decorate venue, make food, buy some drinks or whatever.

I had better stop there... sorry getting carried away!

  • Thanks for your post nmlc. I too need to shift some weight next year. I am not ready yet though (mince pies for breakfast again sq? "embarrassed smilie as mine won't work" yes that's my confession for the day out of the way)

My problem is that I have accepted my weight and shape and feel ok with it. This would all be well and good if my weight was a healthy one but it is not and year by year it creeps up further. I am currently my heaviest weight ever (other than being pregnant) and being mid 40s with 2 young lads I can't afford not to keep up with them or worse become ill. So they will be my motivation next year like Mrs LW.

I have a rare social invite in Feb (a friends' wedding vows renewal awww) and although I won't have shifted much weight by then I can make a good start in 6 weeks. I have nothing smart at all that fits so will be scouring the chazzas come January! I need things to aim for so will use particular events or times of the year to work towards eg our anniversary, summer etc.

sq :) (full of DH's HM mince pies mmmmm sorry)
  • I lost 4 stone in about a fortnight, but I wouldn't recommend diverticular disease as the way to do it, I've kept the weight off & I'm managing to lose a few more pounds slowly.
My hubby & I married a couple of years ago on a budget of £400, it can be done.

Woke up today in kick a$$ mode, probly because New Year is hovering and I love NY. Soooo, I threw out all the turkish delight and black magic chocs and am back on the low-carb-ish diet. I've been without sugar since June, lost a stone and felt good, and now I've had enough of sitting about bloated.

    Ouch my head!

Why did drink so much wine ouch

Thanks everyone for the birthday wishes. We had such a lovely day, very chilled ending to :)

The panto was okay, ds2 enjoyed it and saw some friends there, so he ran around like a nutter. Ds1 was bored so he just scoffed his goody bag.
Saw OH's cousin before he went on the train. Then off to the cinema to watch the hobbit!

OH wanted to go for a meal but I was shattered,so we came and had a buffet type meal. Exactly the same as the restaurant OH wanted to go to. We sat and laughed. Watched another film with the kids and drank lots of wine with OH.

    So were poorly today lol
    Congratulations princess!

Hi everyone, just popping to say hi. Have been to mr a, got some socks for 10p a pair, and a new frying pan.

Just watching paul o'grady and the love of dogs, makes me want another one, but OH is adamant we shouldn't.

Tomorrow I am going into boots to get weighed, and then the fun will begin. I am aiming to go every Monday to get weighed and I aim to post on here to keep the motivation going if that's ok with everyone. Honestly I need lots of help and support. Last time I weighed in I was just over 13 stone but im only 5ft 2, so not a healthy size.

Well must go and sort some tea for everyone. take care x

POOKY ....Excellent post from you, also youve hit the nail on the head with "going into permanent nursing care", he will be back very soon from his week in respite so im going to fine the "right time" to talk to him.......But I feel guilty about long term care as he is only 53 years old...........Sheila

Sheila, I know I'm catching up; but wanted to just say you have to do what's best all round for all of you.

My dad became very poorly when I was 15, he was 48, he had to have a shunt fitted into his head etc, had hydrocephalus, we were told he had maybe 3 years.
Roll forward 6 years I was just turned 21,, dad was 53 and mum was 47, mum died of unknown about cancer. I had to tell my dad mum had cancer as he wasn't capable of seeing drs etc. (mum went for a hysterectomy and when they started the operation they found the tumours etc within 6 weeks mum was dead).

Myself and my sister (13mths younger) had to then care for my dad and hold down jobs and run the home; we had been helping mum previously.
3 years later on dad was getting so he couldn't be left and we had the descision to make about permanent nursing care, luckily for us dad's sister came and spoke to him about it.
Dad died 3 years after that finally having more than outlived his 3 year prognosis, he was just a couple of months short of his 60 birthday.
I was pregnant with DS1 although didn't know at the time, but we think by something dad said to my uncle he knew.

What i'm trying to say is you must do what is right for you, it is no good you making yourself ill, if you can't cope especially when you have underlying problems yourself.

    thanks
    My self & hubby; 2 sons (30 & 26). Hubby also a found daughter (37).
Eldest son has his own house with partner & her 2 children (11 & 10)
Youngest son & fiancé now have own house.
    So we’re empty nesters.
    Daughter married with 3 boys (12, 9 & 5).
My mother always served up leftovers we never knew what the original meal was. - Tracey Ulman

He is only 53 shegar, but how old are you? And how much longer can you go on?

Would the "well" him have wanted you to sacrifice your own health? Despite the "in sickness and in health" thing, I wouldn't want my OH to do that. Not at his own expense.

I had my sis in law crying on my shoulder this morning. My BiL took his own life 4 years ago, and sometimes it seems like she hasn't moved On at all. She said today that the oPtimum for her was that he got better and she divorced him, not that he died. She feels so terribly guilty about feeling like that - not that he died, he was very mentally ill and she knows she couldn't have done any more.

On a brighter note, I will join in the weight thing. I will weigh in tomorrow, though I am not going to like the results. I am thinking "my fitness pal". I am hoping I only have a stone to lose.
I wanna be in the room where it happens
