Hiya NUTTY all I've done is to give up alcohol ( didn't have lots but it's empty calories) and learn to only eat when I'm hungry, so if I don't want breakfast I wait until I get nibbly and have brunch instead whenever it happens and also to learn that I don't HAVE to finish what's on my plate if I feel full enough, did that on christmas day and left a roast potato and some veg and meat I couldn't fit in my tum without feeling too full. It isn't hard, I just have to remember it at every meal as it's so easy to think oh it's only one potato etc. shame to leave that!!! and it's worked for me without being on a 'diet' or having to give up any type of food. I try not to overcarb and meat etc is the leanest I can get but I still have a chocolate once in a while and as nothing is off limits food wise, so I don't feel deprived or sorry for me, can only be a winner. Today I went to the garden centre and found a really warm and waterproof coat in the sale, size 18 and it fits, and I feel so happy, I know I've a way to go yet but I really feel it is an achievement to have got this far and it really hasn't been hard. You can do it too, go on give it a go!!! Lyn xxx.0

I'm the same MrsL. Low carbish all day and then one proper real meal, and not too much of it.0

It works well doesn't it MAR and I'm not feeling hungry either. My original idea was to try and just have 2 meals a day so if we ever had an enforced time stuck indoors due to weather or something unforseen we'd be able to make our storecupboard stuff last that bit longer and it's suiting me very well. Some days I am hungry in the morning so I do have breakfast, perhaps an apple or some yoghurt but most days I go through until 12/12.30 ish before I need to eat anything and it's working, woohoo!!!0

Very well done MrsLW. :T:T:T
I desperately need to lose a lot of weight and am trying to set myself the same kind of routine. Being on quite a lot of diabetic medicine does not help as I have to eat at fairly set times but am determined 2014 will see me having a healthier diet. I have to - otherwise its going to be insulin.:eek:
Congratulations to everyone managing to lose weight and get healthier.Use it up, Wear it out, Make it do, Do without.0 -
Hello all, haven't caught up with everything, but well done Lyn!
I have had time off from my very long-term diet over Christmas but not too much time off. I use the fruit and yoghurt approach to brekky/brunch too.
I was a size 18-20, I'm now a size 16 ish.
However I am 5'9'' so this equated to 16 stone 8lbs at my heaviest. I am now 14 stone - ish and have another 2-3 stone to lose, though I need to keep muscle built up, which is quite heavy, so I'm paying more attention to how I look/feel, rather than what I weigh.
The saying 'breakfast like a king' (lunch like a prince, dine like a pauper) is used by many, but maybe it's not such a good idea if you have a sedentary job like mine, with added lack of mobility. That king's breakfast can sit heavily from 9 am onwards.
I have had alcohol in the house for me for the first time in many months, really enjoyed it but it won't be replaced once the New Year drinks have gone.
Earlier this year I started to listen to my body and eat much, much smaller portions.
Probably roughly equivalent to a small one person meal from the freezer shop, not that I normally get those. So definitely dining like a pauper in terms of quantity, but not necessarily quality - lots of lean chicken, a lot of Quorn in meals, fish and lean red meat when the budget permitted.
Tonight though we're having the Specially Selected chipolatas that I forgot to tell DS about when he decided he would cook Christmas lunch, along with a gammon steak bought rtc from Heron.
Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... I would have burned the pink candle, sculptured like a rose, that melted in storage." Don't keep things 'for best' - that day never comes. Use them and enjoy them now.0 -
Hope everyone is doing well!
The wind has dropped here which is good as I can't sleep when it is super windy. Spend too much time panicking about the roof disappearing or what all the funny noises are!
Wandered into town and got a griddle pan and a Mason Cash 1.5 litre casserole dish. Super excited!! I am determined to learn to cook! Going to see if my parents still have a slow cooker hidden away somewhere as I think that would be handy as I work full time.
Also have been having a vague look through the seed catalogues .... don't need much as I got lots of bargain seeds last year for vegetables. Just fancy some courgettes for a container! Would really like raspberries and strawberries but not sure there is room. Went to check on my compost bin and it is actually starting to look like compost!!
Glad I can post about it on here as my friends do not understand my excitement over anything domestic.
Got myself a bit stressed out looking at house prices ..... on my wages I can't afford much and really want a reasonable garden. Not too fussed about the house so long as it doesn't need anything dramatic doing to it as I am not skilled like that!
Not sure if it is best to stick it out at home and have a strict budget and try to save up as big a deposit as possible. My wages are unlikely to increase so I don't know if I am better aiming for a 30 or 40% deposit although that seems like a huge and near impossible amount to save. I am not too fussy but want a house in a safe area with a garden but that is out of reach. Kind of stressful to think I may never afford a little home of my own.0 -

I also need to lose about 3 stone,, I gave up smoking 6 years ago and put about stone and half on , then OH had the stroke and in the past year put another one and half stone on , hard to get it off being diabetic and needing to eat proper...........Well done LYN on your weight loss, really good for you , I cant miss breakfast because of having insulin..........
Well done MAR too, beings you like a sweet or 2 ....................
I hardly sit down much , always on the go doing something , so dr said mine is a lot stress related, but I know its not an excuse to be heavy , but im hoping one way or tuther for a few changes in the new year, and my weight being one of those..........................
Sounds like everyone got over xmas all ok.......
I went to the NEXT sale yesterday with DIL, my son sat with OH , so that I could have a little time out, havent been shopping for ages , so it soon tired me out, too many people about for my liking , im use to quiet country living , but as soon as you hit the town its all hustle and bustle it drained me..............................
But did get some super quality curtains for my patio doors out back , 90 x 90 size in lovely lemon/ white , so today it took me ages to take the other ones down, do a bit of extra cleaning cob webbing and window cleaning , transfer the curtain hooks from old to new curtains , then hang curtains, look super................................Also got king size duvets ....
We have a massive NEXT store 26 miles from us , they always have everything in their sales at less than half price.........Its the time to buy quality goods at cheap prices , if you can manage to save for their sales 3 times a year , you never have to have cheap stuff that dont wash properly ............Bit of forward planning there..............
Been very nice and sunny all day today , we will have a frost tonight , but then Sunday will be nice again............
Then back to rain and gale force winds Monday ..............Catch you all later ...Sheila0 -
I need curtains and towels Shegar but the RV won't take me to the shops cos it's too busy0

mar - dunelm mill are great for curtains (they do towels too and are online)
Alfs - thanks for the heads up on the beans, I needed to head out for milk and potatoes this morning so popped and and stocked up, they also had 6 tins of Hein z cream of tommy soup for £1.99 so grabbed a pack of those too.
Mrs LW well done on the weight loss. I really need to sort my weight out, I'm feeling very uncomfortable at the moment, its on the list for the new year.
Also on the list is a proper crack at making some money from my craft stuff. I'm going to register as self employed and get a decent online site going. This will be my year
Got my parents coming tomorrow, we were supposed to go to them yesterday but the storms put pay to that, so it's 2nd Christmas day for us....no pressies but a lovely family day and any excuse for another roast dinner
