The OS Doorstep - a helpful and supportive thread in these tough times

So pleased to read you're ok Sheila, although I suspect your 'ok' is hanging by a thread. You rarely post your woes but we all know that you have an extremely tough life. I'm sorry to read of wrangles with tick boxes, pigeon holes, rules and regulations. I can only imagine.
I wish for you some respite from it all very soon and that both you and your OH can get someone to find an acceptable solution. I'm angry on your behalf and that is before reading any of the story. I don't think I could walk in your shoes Sheila. I think I'm a woman of substance but by gosh I think what you're dealing with would break me. Thanks for checking in. I've been a bit worried.0 -
Another one here glad to have heard from you Sheila. You come on here my love and unload as much as you like. It sometimes helps to get everything out of your head and down on paper, or monitor screen in this case. You know this is a safe place to share your troubles.
It's a wild, wet night here as well. I quite like it when I'm warm and dry indoors and the elements are doing their worst outside. I feel very cosy until I think about those living in bus shelters and on park benches. Then I just feel helpless.
Didn't do one thing I'd planned today. We had constant visitors this morning and the last one was my DIL who asked cheerily if I'd remembered that this was the last day of posting 2nd class stamps. That was a definite eeeky moment Mar. I abandoned any plans I had and knocked off all the rest of my cards. It doesn't half concentrate the mind, the fear that you may have to fork out even MORE money for postage. I was 2 stamps short so endeavoured to extract 2 from the Rev. She is the most kind and generous person but for some reason she guards her stamps as though they were the crown jewels. After a bit of huffing and puffing and being assured that it was only 2nd class stamps I was after she was still showing reluctance until I threatened that if she didn't cough up 2 stamps pretty smartish I would open all the cards and scratch her name off.
I was soon battling my way through storm and tempest to the post box.
As for the parcels, the presents contained therein have ceased to be Christmas presents and are now New Years Presents.
Still trying to get the house inspection worthy before Saturday. Still failing miserably.

A belated well done to Miss Pooky and Master SQ.:T Glad to have some very proud parents. And I hope you enjoyed Bruges pooky.
Glitterkitty, did your BF get to talk to GP? Is his back any better now?
Hope everyone with bugs/viruses etc feel better soon. It is a bad time of year with cold and damp.
It is cold and very windy here. The wind is howling though all southeast facing windows and doors :eek:. Not looking forward to trying to sleep in the noise. Hope you all have everything securely tied down or put away.
Hi AOT, his back is a little bit better, but not much he had yesterday off work and he didn't speak to the doctor but he has an appointment tonight anyway so decided to wait. Thanks for asking :-)the only debt left now is on credit cards! The evil loan has gone!! :j:j0 -
SQ your a fantastic loving person and you've been through so much, were all here for you.
As for the housework, do as i am one step at a time. If you try to tackle it all the one then you'll get trampled under the big elephant. Just do one thing at a time. Depression is horrible and once it grips you its hard to shake it off.
Just try to relax and enjoy the week off school, no stresses, no anxieties relating to school to your and your family together.
Thats my big thing, once friday comes no more school till the 6th january, no outside influences, no in laws. Just me, my boys and the OH. Everyone else can shove off because were going to enjoy our family time together. so in other words, hot chocolates, candy canes and loads of games.
Kidcat yay go you!!!!!
monogran, leave the house chick, its your home, if anyone says anything tell them to bog off. You do so much for everyone else, take some time for you xx

Morning toughies - popping in quickly before the last day of madness begins
Although its surprisingly relaxed today as DD19 has a later start, DS15 isnt out until lunch and DD7 is off school poorly so only one school drop off this morning.
Sheila - so glad you have been able to post, I hope you are getting something sorted but if you need to vent, we are all here to listen
SQ - hope you are feeling brighter today
Monnagran - I missed the card deadline. I will still post second class and they will be late, past caring about cards to be honest

Don't worry too much about missing the 2nd class post deadline. That is just the last day to post for guaranteed delivery before Christmas, but the cards are still likely to get there in time. After all, given that much of the sorting process is by machine, they are hardly likely to go through the sorted mail and take out all the second class ones are they? (Or do they?!)
Must leave for the salt mines now. After a night with much weather I'm a bit tired, but the boss won't make allowances for that.

Hello shegar if you are reading, I sympathise with your SS troubles having been through the mill trying to sort out my Mum's care. It's not joined up, is it? You have to make dozens of calls and keep nagging; how lovely it would be to have one SS person to organise and chase everything up but that seems to be left for us. Thinking of you.
Well done Miss POOKY and Master SQ. and good luck to Mr Possession with interview in New Year.
Waiting in for DW repair man this morning so couldn't go to hosp with DH for scan results on his knee. It was an early appointment on the other side of the county but I've not heard from him yet. Should be off to work and taking Dd19 to her extra day's work but if I don't wait for DW man today, it will be next year before I get another appointment. May do a bit of Christmas wrapping while I wait.
Very stormy here yesterday, roads flooded, trees down, hope everyone came through unscathed.
Nuttyp how lovely of you to do a hamper for the dogs. We took loads of stuff to animal shelter CS a couple of days back and while we were browsing the treats and chews for our own doggies, the receptionist was dealing with someone else desperate to re home their dog. They couldn't take him as they already have a waiting list so were trying to ring round the other shelters to find a place. Hope they got one as I hate to think what will become of the poor dog if they don't. It was a Cavalier King Charles and Dd has always wanted one of those, but we two dogs and two cats we are struggling with vets bills as it is
Managed a biggish shop in Aldee yesterday, pleased with how much we got for our money. Not surprised that they and Lidly are doing so well.

Failed miserably today - school drop off. In a dolly day dream. Missed turning. Got myself lost in a one way system. Ended up on the By-Pass to Poole! Reason I'm telling you? No panic!! I was calm, turned round when I could, parked up and put the sat nav on to get me back.
I have the day off today so attending to the house. More bleaching of the bathroom tiles today. Does anyone have any magic tricks to rid what i think is a hard water mark on the toilet where the flush hits the bowl?0 -
Well done that FUDDLE, getting lost is a nightmare isn't it? If it's a limescale mark the best product I know of is HARPIC and the strongest one of them which I think is MAX it's in a black bottle. You'll need to use it overnight every day for about a week and give it a hard scrub every morning but it should get the mark off. Make sure you take yourself half an hour or so of your hard earned day off to just sit and have a coffee love, I know the temptation is to blitz things when you have a day off, but a little relax is worth several hours of clean house, go on, you know you want to, Lyn xxx.0
-
Now Lyn, you know as well as I do that the thought of Fuddle sitting and relaxing with a cup of coffee while there is a limescale mark in her loo is unlikely in the extreme.
However Fuddle, may blessings and butterscotch rain upon you for not getting flustered when you got lost. And I speak as one who came off a motorway slip road for the services and rejoined the motorway only to realise after about an hour of steady driving that I was going back the way I had come. Did I ever mention that I have no sense of direction whatsoever?
What am I doing here at this time? Well, having given up on getting my parcels off in time I thought I would send a very old lady of my acquaintance some flowers so she will know I haven't forgotten her. To my surprise I find that the Doorstep forum doesn't supply flowers by post. I'd better get off.
