Hi all. Lying awake worried sick. About 45 min ago BF's back went into huge spasm. The worst I've ever seen. I was on the verge of calling an ambulance but he wouldn't let me. He's now managed to get himself sort of lying down but propped up in bed and I think he's sort of dozing, but I can't help worrying so much. It's 5 whole weeks until he has his back surgery and I don't know how we will manage until then.
I feel so selfish and wrong for even thinking it, but we are going to London in just under 3 weeks for my birthday and I am hoping he will be able to manage that. I feel awful just thinking that. I shouldn't be thinking about myself now.
I need to ring the doctors first thing to see if I can arrange a home visit. Not that they will be able to give him anything stronger than he is currently taking.
I can't even begin to imagine the amount of pain he is in. I wish I could do something to help.

Does he have diazepam? Really helps my back when it goes into spasm.
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

I eat a peeled very thinly sliced apple very slowly after having a stomach bug. I don't know why but it always makes me feel better and gets rid of the headache.

Helps with travel sickness too. My grandmother used to recommend it x

    Morning all

Glitter - hope your BF is feeling more comfortable this morning. DH has Baclofen and Pregablin for his spinal spasms (amongst other things), they seem to work well for him but it's taken 4 years to find a mix and dose that helps.

I'm off to Brugges with DD1 today! Yay.....Christmas market and ice kingdom and chocolate and frites and decorations and twinkly lights and and and and.....can't wait!

The Inlaws are coming to keep DH company so it's a proper day off for me :)

Glitterkitty, glad your Bf managed to sleep. the doctors might be able to give him a shot of muscle relaxant, you never know and its always worth asking. iIs not selfish to hope that you can still do special things that you have already arranged. We still plan things then cross our fingers and sometimes it works.

Pooky have a fab time, hope there will be lots of photos on your lovely blog xxx

Got up for a brew and am off back to bed now. OH has got the bug really badly and have been up and down all night with him. Not much we can do but keep his meds up and lots of hot drinks etc.

I was at the post office today. The person in front of me spent £43 on stamps for his Christmas cards. I'd have to work 5 and a half hours to earn that amount of money. My £ has to work harder than that but I wonder if it's a generational thing - I've grown up in the technological world as opposed to writing and don't value it as much as others?

Was sending cards and letters cheap in years gone by?

I hate e-cards. To me they are a cop out. For one thing you can't hang them up to decorate the room and make them into nice labels after Xmas. There is something rather impersonal about the 'technological world'. It takes effort to buy (or make a card) and post it, rather than dashing off a quick email.

Sending homemade cards is as OS as you can get
  • Morning all,

Sorry to all of those who are poorly or looking after those who are poorly.

Congratulations to Ms. Pooky and little Mr. SQ! Well done!

And, a spare carrot baton for the clever Mr. Olaf piggy!

Monna, I don't know how you do it!

Princess, how is the cold? I hope you're getting some much needed down time.

Yesterday everything seemed to be going wrong, but in the end I made good progress. I'm bleary eyed with end of term, but still on track to get it all finished so that is something.

dinners are as easy as I can come up with, simplified versions of the meal plan this week. The neighbours have been noisy during the day, but seem to quieten down about the time we turn the lights off, so I can't complain on that front.

Its back to work for me, but I'm reading along. Big hugs to all.x

  • Thanks SWEETPEACOTTAGE, join in and play with the rest of us more, we really do like different perspectives and we all have our own useful coping strategies to deal with everyday life in 2013. The more of us posting regularly the more information we have as a collective group and you never know when you'll be able to add in something really obvious but really useful that hasn't been thought of by the rest of us. Plus it's nice to get to know new folks, stay with us, we'd like that very much, Lyn xxx.
