Well done to Miss Pooky, she is a clever sausage as you say!!
I have had the only Christmas present I need today. When I collected DS7 from school a proud little boy and equally proud TA greeted me with the news that DS participated fully in the afternoon nativity and even said his lines with confidence. I am proud beyond words. The Learning Mentor worked her magic in the morning and waited with him before the afternoon performance. He was given the choice about what he wanted to do, nearly said no but when he saw the others taking their places, he decided he wanted to join in too. Shame for DH and I to miss it but I was glad that I was there when he needed me the most. Also for him to open up and say how he was feeling and cry instead of getting angry is brilliant in itself. All my other troubles seem to have faded away... at least for this evening. Tomorrow is another day.0 -
SQ well done to your little one. Mine always wanted to be trees or a star!! I bet you cant wait to eat the jelly babies. My OH has received so far some mince pies, £40 and a bottle of whisky. First 2 are great but the whiskey well im trying to sell it as we don't drink. The thought was lovely tho.
POOKY - you be a proud mummy. Its a great achievement.
Well I took my mum to see her sister, it was nice to see them catching up. They were reminiscing about the past when their mum (my nan) was alive.
Wrote a reference for my friend, she has the job if they references come back ok, mine was a character / past employer. I hope this makes her life a lot better, when she gets the job - its a night care assistant.
Tea to prepare, just mince and veg.
take care xBSC member 137

Pooky a determined spirit will always succeed and with such canny vision at her young age she will work her backside off to get a CV full of experience that will see her work her way up the ladder that she has chosen. I am sure of that.0

I was at the post office today. The person in front of me spent £43 on stamps for his Christmas cards. I'd have to work 5 and a half hours to earn that amount of money. My £ has to work harder than that but I wonder if it's a generational thing - I've grown up in the technological world as opposed to writing and don't value it as much as others?
Was sending cards and letters cheap in years gone by?0 -
Postage costs have spiraled through the ceiling over the last 25 years, it was very much cheaper before that but we really didn't send cards to all the world and his wife back then, the only cards posted were those to relatives who we weren't going to see because they lived away. We didn't get many cards from locals either it was enough to say Merry Christmas when you saw someone in the street. We also got far fewer presents certainly when I was little there was 1 reasonable present, a nice doll or a train set for a boy (clockwork wind up ones) and then maybe a colouring book and some paints, some sweets, always an annual, mine was always Rupert Bear and presents from relatives tended to be jumpers or socks usually a size too big 'to grow in to!' we didn't have as much 'stuff' generally back then but it was shortly after the war and cash was hard earned and thin on the ground for most people. Funnily enough I don't remember feeling poor though, and there was always a family worse of than us so we were content with our place in the order of things, Lyn xxx.0
