  • MAR it only needs to be a non metal one, china or plastic is fine. If you've been using the little ready made ones you could reuse the containers they come in and still make individual ones. Any hardware shop or even a supermarket with a household section should sell a basic 1 pint pudding basin or you'll find one on fleabay and make sure your cling film says it is ok to use in the microwave as I know some isn't and the plastics aren't stable on heating and could end up passing into your pudding. If you're going to make individual puds you might need to reduce the cooking time by a minute it really depends on the wattage of your microwave.

Sorry about this, but I need a mini rant.

I've just had a call from my former neighbour Noreen's care home who are updating their records. Apparently I was still listed as her next of kin despite Noreen having 2 sons and a daughter in law who seems to delight in telling me how often they visit her in the home every time I see her. I've told them in no uncertain terms to chase her actual relatives who ignored Noreen for years when I was looking after her. I'm so angry right now.
I've stopped visiting Noreen as she couldn't remember who we are most of the time and we all found it very distressing. For my own mental health I had to say it was time to back away. So I resent being made to feel guilty by someone who wasn't there when I was having to argue with the GP, the mental health team, social workers, hospitals and carers to get Noreen the help she needed, who didn't have to visit three or four times a day to check on her and give her medicine that the carers weren't allowed to, who didn't literally clean Noreen's poo off Noreen, the walls, the bed, the floor and myself and who didn't worry herself sick and into a major depression.

    Afternoon toughies,

Do you have a pryex bowl or dish Mar? Or can you re-use your old Sainsbugs steam pud bowls? I have several old ready made sponge/ little Xmas pud bowls I keep for all sorts of things and they would be perfect for Mrs LW's puds. Mmmmmmmmm.

Well 3rd day off for littlest SQ. Bigger brother has gone to school with neither of us sure he is ok to go. Given him a note to excuse him from swimming and the school will phone if he gets worse. DH also trudged in to work.

I had planned to go food shopping, lots of vouchers to use and lots to buy but will have to wait for another day... again. Pottering about doing odds and ends and usual chores. Hoping to finally start Xmas pressie shopping for our kids. I have my friends' little gifts sorted and a couple of their children bought for but others to get as well as our 2 of course. I will be happy when they all bought or at least ordered.

DS7 on the sofa with duvet, pillow, my cuddly hottie and 2 extremely contented cats. Had to take a photo of them all.

    Got a pyrex bowl :)
SDG this is common in care homes, rellies who don't want the hassle do this often. And one poor lady I know ended up paying for the funeral because the family stepped back and refused!

((((((((((((((((SDG))))))))))) You rant away, always better to get things off your chest. Don't the care home have her sons on their records?? Of course you will feel angry. You were a literal lifesaver for Noreen and devoted huge amounts of time and emotional and physical energy to her needs. Thank goodness for people like you. Now she is receiving the care she needs and has family to visit her, you are right to think of your own health and step back.

  • SDG Take a deep breath, put on the kettle and make a cuppa and then sit quiet for a few minutes while you drink it and get your balance again. You are such a good person having taken on the responsibility for your elderly neighbour in such a big way and having made sure of her wellbeing and health for so long. I have a friend who is caring in much the same way for an elderly aunt who has recently had to go into care and now doesn't know who it is when my friend visits. You've done all you can, don't feel cross with yourself that you can't keep on doing it!!! The care home obviously haven't updated the records for a while or they'd have known you weren't standing as next of kin now. Her own relatives MUST assume the responsibility for her now, you have your own family and your own wellbeing to condiser first. I've had this conversation with my friend too recently and she has decided not to visit so often but she IS the next of kin to her aunt and takes full responsibility for her aunts affairs which is what Noreens family HAS to do. Stand firm and look after you and yours, you've done all that could possibly have been asked of you, Love Lyn xxx.

Mar - I have had no probs bunging my pryrex bowl in the microwave (its pretty old so may make a difference?) but I know the official advice is not to go from one extreme of temperature to another with pryex as it is glass after all and could shatter. So to be on safe side don't put a sponge from freezer straight to microwave!
  • MAR Pyrex is absolutely fine, make yourself a pudding girl!!!!!

HI, I have the answer mar, make him use paper plates and plastic cutlery!! Its aweful stuff to use, even worse is polystyrene plates.

Just had a mad few hours cleaning, and bleaching everything in sight. DD was feeling sick again all of yesterday so all germs need to be got rid of. Mum was taken into hospital again last night, she has a chest infection but was very weezey, and had a lot of pain. The ambulance crew were lovely, and said she is quite vulnerable to these as she has astmah, angina and another heart condition.

Did the alddii shop this morning, manager served me, and was pleased as I put all the discounted items on first with the vouchers. Spent just over the 40 mark, but was pleased with my full car boot of shopping. It seems to be a lot busier in there now.

I would love to be able to shop in m&s just once, but I look at the prices and think hmmmm in aldi its £ and I could save ££.

Well must get myself organised, I have the late shift at work again. Take care everyone x
