Hello everyone. Just popped in for a quick visit as am shattered. Been busy all day prepping church for Advent 'installation' - it has taken me all week to do the prep for today's prep - and have setting up for Fayre on Saturday to do tomorrow. Then will have actual event itself followed by friends visiting. I just want to go to bed and stay there this weekend.:( Can hardly walk and back is so bad I could cry.
Don't think could get my kitchen shiny and sparkling no matter how hard I tried.
Off to have sausage pasta for tea - easy to make and eat.:T
Must learn to say NO now and again when asked to 'help'.Use it up, Wear it out, Make it do, Do without.0 -
GB I daren't go that far. I have a horrible suspicion he would go for it and like it. He is very very nitpicky.... but I have managed to ignore him for nearly 48 years so with you evil (but I love it) lot behind me I can go on ignoring him a bit longer...

Yes MAR it is just like a sponge pudding and yes you can vary the flavour and put jam in the bottom of the cup but you have to have the same amount of dry ingredients as the original recipe so you add in an extra spoon of flour and leave out the cocoa powder if you don't want chocolate. You can add a teaspoon of coffee to flavour or some spice or some dried fruit if you like it but it should work out fine if you only like plain sponge with vanilla essence.0

Very quiet here this morning, hope everyone is OK?
Thanks for the recipe Lyn, dd likes that sort of thing when she suddenly wants cake so we will have a go:T
48 years Mar! Do you have a medal;) perhaps you could try a month just reheating M&S dishes (I'm sure they do ready to heat porridge) and explain it's a trial to see how you get on . It would be interesting to say the least but I'm sure there are plenty of people who do just that. You could ask him to eat out of the container because you don't want to get the nice clean plates dirty. Better still, just buy in some sandwiches so you don't get any nasty steam in the kitchen.0 -
After posting the Cup Pudding recipe yesterday I remembered I have a recipe for a 4 portion steamed pudding in the microwave that is very easy and very quick.
Microwave Steamed Pudding Serves 4
Basic Mix and Method
2 oz margarine
2 oz sugar
3 oz S/R Flour
a pinch of salt
1 egg
2 tablespoons of milk
Grease a 1 pint microwaveable pudding basin. Beat the margarine and sugar together until soft, add flour, salt and egg and beat well. Fold in the flour until well mixed. Spoon into the basin and cover it with clingfilm. Pierce the clingfilm in a few places and cook on full power for 3 and a half minutes. Remove from microwave, take of clingfilm (carefully though, the steam is hot) and let the pudding stand for 2 minutes before serving
Variations
Add in 2 oz of sultanas to the mix
Omit 1oz of the flour and add 1oz of cocoa powder
Dissolve 2 teaspoons of coffee in 2 teaspoons of boiling water and add with the milk also add 1 oz chopped walnuts.
Add the rind and juice of 1 orange or 1 lemon.
Put 2 tblespoons jam,or marmalade, or golden syrup or lemon curd in the top of the basin before spooning in the sponge mix.
Add 1 teaspoon of ground ginger, some grated nutmeg and a pinch of ground cloves to the mix. Put golden syrup in the basin and add the spiced sponge mix.
Add in 2 - 3 tablespoons of chocolate chips.
Omit 1 oz of flour and add 1 oz of ground almonds and 1 teaspoon of almond essence and add 2 tablespoons of chopped glace cherries.
Leftovers can be frozen and the sponge will reheat well in portions with a coating of custard.
Its so easy and very cheap and you can tweak the basic mix to whatever flavourings you like, Hope it's useful, Lyn xxx.0 -
I actually like the idea of living on shop bought sandwiches...save a hell of a lot of work and mess
MrsL thankyouthankyou! I have developed a passion for microwave steam puds and they are 75p a time from Sainsbugs, this will save me a fortune. This diet lets you eat one proper meal a day of whatever you like....and I like pudding
Where would I find a microwave pudding basin though?0
