Byatt - you can buy cinema vouchers for the big cinemas, and most of our local big places sell vouchers too - Zoos etc. All the major restaurant chains offer gift vouchers too. Or maybe National Trust? They also offer gift vouchers.
I think cinema vouchers are probably my preferred option - suits all ages and is a nice gift to receive
Can I remind everyone that if you buy gift vouchers from MR M you get a penny off a litre of petrol for every £10 bought.
Thanks Kidcat, cinema vouchers sound perfect as they do go to the cinema a fair bit. x0 -
Well done Master SDG and Miss Nutty!

Quick visit to tell you that the Rev and I had a hilarious weekend - more a meeting of new friends than an interview - and in July we will be off to Somerset. I will be sad to leave the Island but look forward to a new challenge.
We are close to Bath and Longleat and not far from Salisbury, my most favourite place, so it will be very different from here.
Very tired so will take myself off to bed and be more sociable tomorrow.

poem as promised for Mrs LW -not that you are boring, far from it but thought you might enjoy it - has an OS feel!
Being Boring (Wendy Cope)
If you ask me "what's new?" I have nothing to say
Except that the garden is growing.
I had a slight cold but its better today.
I'm content with the way things are going.
Yes, he is the same as he usually is,
Still eating and sleeping and snoring.
I get on with my work. He gets on with his.
I know this is all very boring.
There was drama enough in my turbulent past:
Tears and passion - I've used up a tankful.
No news is good news, and long may it last.
If nothing much happens, I'm thankful.
A happier cabbage you never did see,
My vegetable spirits are soaring.
If you're after excitement, steer well clear of me.
I want to go on being boring.
I don't go to parties, well what are they for
If you don't need to find a new lover?
You drink and you listen and you drink a bit more
And you take the next day to recover
Someone to stay home with was all my desire
And, now that I've found a safe mooring,
I've just one ambition in life: I aspire
To go on and on being boring.
night night

KW are you having them all at once to get them over with early?? xxx
I'm trying to think and not getting very far. I was wondering about giving one gift per household, instead of lots of bits & pieces and envelopes with money in. Do you think it would be possible to do that for a household whose ages range from 8 to adult? It feels nice and neat and simple. I like simple. I think probably food would be the way to do it.. open to any and all ideas please !
If there are kids in the household (or even if not) how about a board game- bring people together to interact, talk and laugh instead of just watching the telly. I know it means wrapping and postage but if they are not fussed about fancy wrapping - get an online shop to deliver direct to them and save you the postage etc.

That's an idea... I like the wrapping bit but I just wanted to make one communal box of interesting things, if you know what I mean... instead of lots of frittery wee things that will either not be suitable or else be broken after a day.0
