FUDDLE: so pleased for you that you are able to get a house. Don't worry about talking about the move and all. At least with the pay as you go metre you have some control and don't have to worry about a bill for it. I'm sure the older folks will love you. Esther x

  • Fuddle, so pleased to hear about the house! It sounds charming and cozy.

We had a PAYG metre in our last rental, and I must say that OH did lots of comparisons and although it was a tad more expensive it wasn't actually as bad as we thought it was going to be prior to the comparisons. As you said,it also helped us keep on top of how much we were using, and it my case meant I didn't feel so anxious every time I used energy as I could just go and look and not have to dread a big bill!

Bit funny though, neither of us had ever lived in a house with prepay meters, and I was home alone the first time it ran out. It nearly drove me mad trying to find whatever it was that was making that beeping noise. We tried to keep it from getting too low, and tried to top up in bigger bursts if we could as a) we had to pay a small fee in all of the local shops to top up and b) I was always worried about what would happen if the machine went down and we couldn't top up (there's a reason I try not to spend to much time in the SHTF thread--I get myself all worked up about what ifs)!

Fuddle: Speaking as one of the older folks - oh, let's be honest here, one of the OLD folks, I'd be honoured to live near you.
Thinks. Be careful what you wish for, although there doesn't seem to be a vacancy just around there. Pity.

  • PONDSKATER the weather forecast says it's going to be very windy for the next few days, I wouldn't want to be going on a cruise, I'd rather stay on terra firma and natter on here with me pals!!!!! Hope they've got the seasick pills with them, Lyn xxx.
Well they flew out to Venice this afternoon and embark on Saturday so maybe they will escape the worst of the weather :rotfl:

Oh Lisakay it must be hard for him to face a hip replacement so young, hope he recovers quickly and well.

Congrats on the new home Fuddle, hope you will be content and happy there.

Thanks for the warm welcome, I can see this thread will take some keeping up with.

    Xmas Saver!
I am so relieved, we have had both trick or treaters and fireworks going off and neither have phased Mia.
She has gone out and greeted the children and come back in when called. And she hasn't barked once. :j

Optician deed done, prescription hasn't changed really, so just new readers, desperately needed so scratched I can hardly see through them. £60 frames, £80 lenses, £40 sight test... Sigh. He just repaired the nose pad on my 'if you can't wear contacts' glasses.

Suppose it could have been a lot worse. He picked the frames "ooh these ones I think?"...new young camp optician, I think he likes the creative part of the job LOL. I liked the first pair he handed me, so seemed like a good idea :P I just wanted to go and have a wee. I'd been there an hour and a quarter. He did squillions of new tests I had a splitting headache before I went, ten times worse after. They have new batch of gadgets every time I go. Something he did burst a little blood vessel in my eye, charming, very halloweeny :(

Didn't like the peripheral vision test at all, lots of dots of light going off when your head is wedged in something that looked like one of those all in one sink/soap dispensers/hand drier thingies in a public loo. You had a little gadget to click ever time you spotted a random white light. Apparently I got a 100% score, I knew playing candy crush would be good for something....

Took a couple of things back today too...a £4.72 Pilot fabric marker from WHSmiths that didn't work...at all  and a tube of tomato puree to Mr T. which was open when I got it home, someone had poked the little point in...I told the woman I know it's only 49p but...I can't use it, I've no idea how long it's been open for! It all adds up. I did a bit of shopping in Mr T. Got some lovely YS ham for dinner, which we had with jacket spuds. I wanted egg too, but discovered the gas bottle is nearly empty so will have to fork out another £40 odd quid for that tomorrow. This has been an expensive week
