I'd use the salmon myself if defrosted correctly and cooked properly. But that's me...

I may be on for the fruit bowl/stand. As I am upstairs a lot I may keep in the bedroom and its there for quick snacks...I have biscuits, cakes in the inbuilt wardrobe and a kettle so it saves some trips downstairs. Come to think of it I have a big plastic bowl that might do, originally purchased for mixing bread dough.

Dare I admit I have some cupcakes to eat...well at £1.50 for four I don't think I could make them any cheaper. But I am going to give them a go soon.

fuddle hope you and OH have had a nice quiet dinner and evening together. Hope your dd is feeling better. does your dd say she is full after a few mouthfuls of all food or just certain ones? could she have an intolerance which maybe makes her feel full or bloated? fingers crossed for the dinner nanny pst. it sounds perfect for you.

my ds1 is very thin and doesn't eat alot but that could be due to ceoliacs disease. ds2 is always hungry, however he has a medical condition that makes him prone to put on weight so I try to watch what he eats. he does do lots of exercise so that helps.

I am pleased that poorly and missing kittems are getting better and have come back home.

Thank you for all the tips and recipes for bananas. I have put them in the freezer until I use them for muffins.

tattycath I keep seeing elderflowers everywhere too! the cordial tastes much better now it has been in the fridge.

the awards evening was good and ds got three awards - french, latin and a head of year's award. we are very proud of him. There were 100 children getting awards out of 3 years (240 children per year) so he has done extremely well.

Well done to your son BunBun.
Nice evening here - bright and dry so that's fine.
We went for a lovely drinkie after work to celebrate the end of first week back at work. This time last week we were just back from Madrid. What a fab place that is. So much to see and do, friendly people, fab food, sun. We are already planning again visit next year - I really was not ready to come back!

Just had a pasta meal with mushrooms, bacon and tomatoes as sauce. We used the last of our 'living' salad tray from Lidl. It has lasted well.

Easy weekend planned. Might go to watch American football game tomorrow afternoon if it's dry.

    Have a great weekend all.

    Evening all

Fuds - my eldest is a nightmare with food, over the years we've had a lot of issues with it, most recently just after Christmas when she dropped to 6.5 st. We've seen an eating disorder clinic and I was advised to talk to her about food, to show her healthy choices and to teach her how to eat enough but working out her daily calorie level needs. (I appreciate this advice isn't for all and my DD is a lot older) I now realise that she's not interested in food, it's fuel for her, no pleasure involved (just like my dad sees food). I do make a bit of toast and pop it under her nose whilst she's studying, a nice full fat milk hot choccy with extra cream, a cuppa and a few biscuits, all without mentioning it, as if I ask, she'll say she's not hungry. It's hard to watch them not eat properly as you feel like a failure as a mother.

fluffy kitten went back to the vets today, she's doing ok, it's now been classed as cat flu with gastric obstruction. The obstructions cleared and her hydration levels are normal. 2/3 more weeks of anti-bs for any secondary issues (pneumonia is a concern) and painkillers to ease her aches and pains and take down the swelling in her throat. It's cost us an arm and a leg for all her tablets and meds but she's at least on the mend now.

Either of our local butcher shops will offer a weekly pack of meat here. The nearest one to us does a couple of selections - one is mince, a medium chicken, sausages, stewing steak and 4 pork steaks and another is mince,4 bacon chops, sausages,4 chicken breasts and 4 chicken legs for around £17.50. I usually feed four adults and sometimes five of us from this.

Best of all the chicken does not go all watery when cooking but stays moist and the sausages don't produce loads of fat.

Thanks for the good wishes...nice to see that things seem to be settled for many these past days and hopefully over the weekend.

I'm looking at all the fruit and veg that I have, I've always been good but am really into it now. Remember how we talked of butter dishes:pI'm wondering if I should have a fruit bowl or just carry on as I do with most items just stored in the fridge/cupboards as many items should be there rather than in a bowl.

Especially, grapes and berries stay in the fridge. Usually a bowl only ever had apples, pears, oranges and bananas anyhow.

Do people bother with fruit bowls these days?

Pity the weather is not so good, was debating whether to try and go to Richmond again tomorrow...and even Whitby next week. Will decide on the spur of the moment.

I keep trying new items I would not have considered. I have never liked malt loaf(Soreen)but had no idea that they did a fruit loaf of sultanas/apple so as it was yellow stickered yesterday I bought it and am looking forward to trying it...I also found some cheese scones reduced too.
Hi All, Popperwell I have two fruit bowls, one a solid china affair the other is a wicker basket which I must say does make the fruit last longer, perhaps it's the air circulation! Hubs takes 5-7 pieces of fruit to nibble on through his shift at work so it doesn't hang about long.
Been a dreary day here, rain all day sadly but have spent the time cooking, and flicking between the tennis and Glasonbury coverage online. Oh and also tried a victoria sponge in the top oven of my cooker that I have had for donkeys years. I have only ever used the bottom for baking which is fan and is so temperamental. The top oven I have only used for toast, storage or keeping things warm at Christmas. my friend suggested I try it for sponges and low and behold a not perfect but near enough for me light sponge that doesn't look like a couple of biscuits!. I am not a bad cook but making a decent sponge has always eluded me! The fact that my MIL god rest her made the victoria sponge from heaven and twice as large has left me over the years of trying with a huge inferiority complex! Although today's effort could not match hers in terms of rise (her's were enormous) it was not bad at all and tasted delish which is the main thing.
Making lots of comfort food at the moment as a prelude to a few days away next week and well does one need a reason. Diet starts when I get back, just going to enjoy old style baking and a few days at Southwold for our 20th anniversary. Lovely!:D
