I once ordered what I thought was a beef and noodle dish in Japan. It was liver. I've been scarred ever since.

Glad your phone call was nothing to worry about, Pops.

Back from the gym, I took it easy, but do feel better for going. OH is making dinner tonight, pizza:D He hasn't made it in awhile. We're going to settled down with the iplayer and then have an early evening. While he is knocking up the pizza, I may work a bit on getting the clothes sorted.

Tomorrow we've booked a free seminar on the history of victorian clothing. Although OH likes history, I doubt he would do it on his own, but one of his colleagues passed on the details. I love the history of clothing, plus there is free lunch! It is being held by a local museum. After that, a friend is having a birthday celebration in another borough. It is one we don't get to very often as it requires complicated bussing, but as we'll be in town first it shouldn't be a problem. If we get there early we'll have a trowel through the CS. She's organized to meet in a pub that serves food, but we don't know how pricey it is. There are plenty of places in our budget near by so we me may nip past the menu and then decide if we should eat before or not.

Sunday we're off to meet the new nephew and we'll have to squeeze in a grocery shop too. He looks to be quite the little so and so.

Hugs to all who need them, and I hope you all have lovely weekends! I will probably spend any of my spare time trying to get rid of the slugs that have appeared over the last two days of rain!

A few days ago some here were mentioning e-cigarettes as an alternative to smoking...this came into my e-mail via a newsletter...

Thanks for this. It does give food for thought.
Mine has arrived but to be honest with you i haven't really got on with it very well so far. i Think I'm just going to have to psyche myself up and quit cold turkey. I have done this before so if I put my mind to it I'm optimistic I can do it again.

For anyone who has a proper butcher there is a cut called hand of pork and it is about £1.25 per pound. Ham shanks are £1.99 at the moment and I just sliced one up for DH as he keeps picking at them happily.

I usually get a family pack of meat for about £17 and it feeds five of us or more for about a week - much cheaper than SM and tastier so unless I see a fantastic YS deal I am not tempted at all.

Have bacon chops and marinated chicken legs cooking with new potatoes and mange tout with green beans so dds and DH have a choice and there is enough for a lunch tomorrow.

Had an omelette for breakfast and veggie bulgar wheat for lunch and feel better for avoiding bread so far. I ordered the book on primal eating but decided to use it as a rough guide rather than as a pressure on myself.

Thanks for the good wishes...nice to see that things seem to be settled for many these past days and hopefully over the weekend.

I'm looking at all the fruit and veg that I have, I've always been good but am really into it now. Remember how we talked of butter dishes:pI'm wondering if I should have a fruit bowl or just carry on as I do with most items just stored in the fridge/cupboards as many items should be there rather than in a bowl.

Especially, grapes and berries stay in the fridge. Usually a bowl only ever had apples, pears, oranges and bananas anyhow.

Do people bother with fruit bowls these days?

Pity the weather is not so good, was debating whether to try and go to Richmond again tomorrow...and even Whitby next week. Will decide on the spur of the moment.

I keep trying new items I would not have considered. I have never liked malt loaf(Soreen)but had no idea that they did a fruit loaf of sultanas/apple so as it was yellow stickered yesterday I bought it and am looking forward to trying it...I also found some cheese scones reduced too.

I did not want to alarm or be over cautious as just about everything has something negative attached to it but thought it may be of use. I have some very good sites bookmarked and also am getting used to pinterest.

My main bookmarked sites are all food or health based but also a lot of fun.

There are great free sites on the web, that primal eating plan...as far as I can see you can eat just about anything just less of it...and many sites offer lists of what you should eat and what to avoid. I'm sure I have site somewhere on here on my bookmarked favourites. If anyone wants it I'll hunt it out...

ELONA: Where do you get your meat pack from and does it contain offal as we are another family who can't/won't eat it? Aso, I can't remember, how many in your family does the £17 pack feed? Thanks. Esther

Pops, we use something similar to this, although mine has three layers and is a bit deeper. It was originally used by a friend's sister at her wedding to display cupcakes, but her mum was chucking it out and thought of me. Mine is a very fetching pink, but I think you might find something a bit less frilly if you look. It works well for the apples, bananas, pears, oranges, lemons, limes kiwis etc. and any veg that doesn't go in the refrigerator. It has two advantages--one, displaying fruit as enticingly as cakes are displayed, a bonus in my view, and two we cram more fruit into a well ventilated stand that takes up less space on the work top than a bowl.

We have a metal fruit bowl with a hook to hang bananas, but it isn't really very practical.

Thanks Lyn, I've put the post number on my signature so I can refer to it. I found the elderflower cordial recipe on the old thread.
Flowers are de-insected and in boiling water with the lemon rind. :)
There were loads of elderflowers so if this is successful I am looking forward to making something with elderberries later in the year. :)

If you click on the post number you can then book mark that post;)

Something unpleasant happened today - well made me very cross actually, especialy the aftemath, as I should have had an apology, for which I am still waiting.

but the karma fairy has looked kindly and, despite forgetting to display my parking permi tin the car park for about an hour it wasn't spotted so no ticket issued!

    phew!
