The OS Doorstep - a helpful and supportive thread in these tough times

Jumping off the lurker's bus a minute -
nuttyp - so pleased you can now move on work-wise, and you have had the opportunity to blow the whistle on the problem colleague. Things usually work out for the best.
Burtha - awful news, no wonder you are all at sixes and sevens. However, if there is talk of a possible operation then there are good neurosurgeons in your area (I'm thinking JCUH and Newcastle) so that's a good start. Fingers crossed all goes well.
Fuddle - so the move begins - doesn't seem like 5 minutes since you moved out of a dive (I remember the hassles you had with your previous LL) into your current place, now an even better future awaits. Never been to Dorset but it's one of a select few places I would seriously consider moving to when I am older. (Maybe I have been watching too many Hugh FW programmes...)
Mrs LW - so Baby Lentil is now an Ezra....he'll be here before you know it, the time will just fly once the dreaded C festival is over....
Kidcat - I am amazed you are still standing, reading your schedules and your hassles. Surely, as the children get older, it must get easier? Well done you for holding it all together!
Popperwell - good to see you out and about and not moping around at home, as so many people on their own do. By being involved and interested in the outside world, you stay fitter for longer, brain-wise as well as body-wise. Keep it up!
And healing vibes for all those OS peeps with problems.......just plod on, know that "this soon will pass" and carry on using the support network on here. One life - your life - live it!0 -
Evening all
Burtha - sorry to hear your news, I hope you get the best possible treatment. After going through the compensation debacle with DH following his accident I can only advise that you do everything in writing or via email, keep a note of all appointments/journey times etc (you can claim for travel expenses), in fact take note of everything. We had 3 years of appointments and medicals to keep track of before they paid out and it was only by meticulous record keeping that we got it all sorted. Be aware that any benefits you recieve due to disability/not being able to work have to be paid back once any claim is settled. I know that's a lot to think about at the moment. A friend of mine was diagnosed with a tumour 12 years ago, his is inoperable and he was given months to live, he told them he wasn't going to give them the satisfaction of being right so went on with life very determinedly. He's now got a lovely wife and daughter and goes from strength to strength. Huge hugs x
Nutty - pleased its over for you, let's hope something gets done about your colleague!
Mrs C - Fantastic that you can do the course you've always wanted to, judging by your gorgeous jewellery you'll be a natural and sell vast amounts!
Have you seen the thread about making cakes in a sandwich toaster? I thought I'd give it a go and my goodness they're fab! I had lots of mixes from AF, just whisked one up and popped the mix in the little indents......4 minutes later, scrummy little cakes! Fab for quick puddings and when you just want a sweet kick, all woot turning the oven on!"Start every day off with a smile and get it over with" - W. C. Field.0 -
Thanks for the kind words Pooky, they made I blush! When I look around t'internet I am in awe of some of the fabulous jewellery, I can't begin to think I can be anywhere near as good, but if I don't try, I won't know!
Cake in a sandwich toaster sounds good to me, but then, cake is anything sounds good!Think big thoughts but relish small pleasures0 -
Mrs C - that is wonderful, and as pooky says your jewellery is always so beautiful you will be a natural I am sure
I have two poorlies again - DS9 has a cold and is coping sort of, DD7 has caught a much harsher bug, is very croaky and losing her voice, coughing terribly. Praying she is ok for school tomorrow as I have car MOT to do and DD19 is doing harvest with DS9 class.0 -
OMG it is scary windy outside... Will have to go and pick DS up from town in a bit. Can't make him walk back in this
I managed to get the dogs bathed, Advocated, clean collars, done loads of washing including the dog towels, and their 2nd collars are in soak (I put them in the washing machine)
Sorted out my upcycling stuff, and set aside a bag for the CS of stuff I won't use and managed to tuck the rest in a relatively unobtrusive corner of the living room.
Dinner was a creative :P mix of stuff that needed using. I had some of my GF spicy pancake batter left from the market, so I stirred in some more chickpea flour to thicken it up, grated in a couple of sweet potatoes and made fritters, and a veggie curry from the remains of a butternut, some reduced mushrooms, and a cauli, which was thickened with a bit of peanut butter, and had some coconut milk in. It was edible :rotfl: even if it's heritage was undiscernible.
I've got to make my pastie filling in a bit for tomorrow. It'll be a sort of saag aloo with chard from the garden, and potaotes and onions, with some chilli and garam masala.

Lost a post twice through pressing the wrong button on here:mad:
Katieowl, how marvellous that the loaf has been included in your selection on your stall.
Mrs L, Mr T has Dairy Milk for £2 down from £4 too, the last time they had Thorntons down a few weeks ago they disappeared quick and never came back until the offer ended.
The sun was out today(I wasn't)but it seems colder indoors. Yet the weather service I use suggests unlike what the BBC forecast says the next four or five days here aren't that bad.

hi everyone, haven't posted for a bit because I have found it hard work just trying to keep up with home life..still not 100% after crash , have had a few physio apt and they are going ok, still having headaches so visit to doctors yesterday ended up with a stay in hospital, came out tonight, after a ct scan and mri scan they have found I have a brain tumer . back on Monday for anther mri and to see brain doctor after to to what the options are.. think I am still in shock, carnt stop tears, have told older kids but not younger 2 , didn't think I would be back tonight so had wrote a quick planer for younger kids ,whats on each day,so that hubbie and older kids can get them to where they need to be, breaks my heart to think about the future, hubbie is keeping it together for the big kids, we have talked and talked and have had every conversation that you never want to say, need to write this down somewhere and don't know where else to turn ,sorry ..x
So sorry, this news is very shattering. It sounds like you need more detailed information. Firstly about what exactly the diagnosis is, and how they plan to treat it.
It may help to have a list of questions for Monday when you see the doctors, as relying on your memory when your mind is all chewed up with this can be difficult.
It's useful to have someone you trust go with you, as often everything the doctor says seems to 'not register' and it's good to have someone else listening for you. The moral support is often appreciated too.
Hope you get some answers, it is very hard not to worry.0 -
Burtha I'm so sorry you've had such shocking news. I have fingers crossed for the best outcome.
Kidcat I think DS has the same bug, he was off today. I'm hoping he can go back tomorrow too as it's the announcement for the Nobel Prize for Literature and I'm on alert to send the news to about 8 different countries, I need my wits about me all day.
Mrs C the jewellery course sounds fab and just up your street. And after all, how often do we get to follow our dreams.0 -
Possession - I misread that and nearly collapsed at the idea you were up for a Noble Prize!! Had to go back and re-read0

Nutty...glad that its all over and that at last someone will do something about your colleague.
Burtha....hugs for you and your family I have a friend who had a tumour discovered about 5 years ago....she has had no treatment and is just monitored by the hospital, she still manages to keep going at a very active pace, so trust that you will be similar.
Have been to see my grandnephew...such a cutie, almost born at home as they only went to the hospital when the 'discomfort' was happening every minute, baby arrived 10 mins later....
Sleep well all.
