Morning All
Warm wet and windy here - sounds like Kate's dogger!
SQ , glad everything is ok, it is such a worry.
Alfsmum - Our cat is on thyroid meds, tell me about the cost of blood tests! You can ask the vet for a prescription for the tabs (one puss is stabilised) and buy them online, it is much cheaper, even if the vet charges for the prescription. PM if you need more info.
Kate - what sort of pasties are you making?
Have a good day everyone!
Thank you Mrs chip. Would be interested to know the rough monthly cost of the meds. Do I need to sit down first?0 -
Possession - brushed cotton and flanelette are the same. They can take a while to dry during the winter but are lovely and warm to get into. I've got cotton sheets for summer and brushed cotton for winter, they make a huge difference.
SQ - glad it all went ok.
Kidkat - how is DD doing with Uni? Early days but is she enjoying it?
DD1 shocked me last night by asking if we can go look at our local Uni, after going further afield to look at the weekend she's realised the comforts of home might be more appealing. Fingers crossed she stays at home, it make so much more financial sense for her and will give her less debt when she finishes.
Off to sort out the wardrobe of doom that's in DD2s room. If I'm not back by 3pm send out a search party!
POOKY, our Dd has just started at the local Uni. It's a standalone adult nursing facility, part of the main Uni which is over fifty miles away. Sooooo much easier and cheaper than going away to study and she's not bothered about missing out on all the student stuff as she has a lovey BF and a part time job so wouldn't have time for much more. Horses for coursesit wouldn't suit everyone and some can't wait to get away from home :rotfl:

Available in small batches from Gleblands Farm Shop on the road into St Dogs. Thurs - Sun he's open. I make about a dozen a week, but the flavour varies. I do Saag Aloo, Aloo Masala, Curried Veg, Trad Pasty - swede, carrot & onion, but always Vegan. I make pasties most weeks for the market stall too. (can practically make them in my sleep!)
Kate
Ooh, loving the sound of the vegan pasties! Have just added a shredded YS cabbage to my cauldron of soup. Tastes lovely.0 -
Hi everyone
Cheek of the person "grassing you up" sevenup! The coffee morning sounds good though.
Strokes to Mr Puss, alfsmum for good behaviour. Sorry to hear that the costs of blood tests and meds are so very expensive. Hope your DD's finger is ok, sounds painful.
I have done something to my back whilst getting dressed. A big spasm went down my back and leg and I can't straighten up properly. The planned visit to gym and Allydees (would have been 3rd voucher!) has been cancelled and I have been alternately resting and slowly walking about the house trying not to stiffen up any more.
Managed to drive the kids to school and hoping will be ok driving again this afternoon. Stupidly struggled to hang washing out (in small batches) and now it's pouring with rain. DH is at college til 10pm tonight and I can't risk delving down Mr Chesty so might have to be cheesy beans on toast for the kids tonight.
Having said all that I am still having a better day than yesterday, much prefer physical pain to emotional stress (not saying physical pain is easy to live with and that it doesn't also cause emotional pain of course.)
Feeling much happier and have broken open the only C*ristm*s item I have bought so far... a box of biscuits *.... need to do some quality control testing naturally.I have also watched some daytime TV, a rare occurrence for me and saved for a poorly day... feels a guilty pleasure. Almost worth having a bad back today... won't be saying that when I have the kids home.
* Belgian bics from Allydees £1.99 - absolutely delicious and look fairly posh (IMHO)

Alfsmum, it will depend on which drug is prescribed, Felimazole or Vidalta and then what the dosage is. George is on one tab of Vidalta a day and they are 33p per tab, £9.90 for 30 days supply post free. I used to pay 16p a tablet for Felimazole and he was on two a day. It is worth trawling the vet med UK sites to find the best price/postage combo, I find Animed Direct are very good. We pay £12 to the vet for a prescription, which she writes for 30 tabs x 3. When G was on felimazole she would write a script for a pot of 100 tabs plus 1 repeat, which worked out a bit cheaper.Think big thoughts but relish small pleasures0

Just had a big indigestion attack with awful griping cramps. Luckily DH left some of his tablets lying around. Made a heavy breathers call on my hand and knees to DH to be on standby in case he needs to come home early and finally admitted defeat and asked my wonderful friend (same one who came with me to the scan last night) to pick the kids up from school. I just don't feel safe driving even if I can manage it. She is also going to get some more painkillers down - they are up high out of kids' reach but I can't stretch with my bad back. Sitting on the sofa is no go but if I stand up and walk around every now and then, the PC chair feels back friendly so the 'puter is keeping me sane
forgot to say before, hope you're ok now after your fall pops and your packing and plans are going well fuddle (all will be well in the long term, just wait and see)

Thanks Pooky, you are the voice of reason! I'm not doing anything at the moment till I see what these brushed cotton fitted sheets are like, as DS can be a bit funny, he likes to be cool in bed. Plus I have spare bedding so on a freezing night they can always have a hottie and an extra duvet.
I have four beds in my house and found them hard to wash and dry in the winter, drying them indoors added greatly to the condensation for me. Big old drafty place with no cavity walls.
I use an electric blanket, but your budget may not stretch to that just now. They are cheaper to run than the cost of the dryer tho.0 -
I keep losing the thanks button - it disappears and returns a few posts later! :oIs it just me?
Savingqueen, soglad you made the appointment and things went well last night. Sorry you’rehaving such a painful time today. Am sending lots of (((hugs))). I suffer withback pain so you have my deep sympathy. And then to have indigestion cramps as well. Awful for you.
Pops, I loveChristmas but can’t do with all the media hype. I turn into a right Scroogewhen shops have their sparkly displays up in October (which some have round ourway) and repeat soundtracks of carols as well. :mad:Am afraid that if anyone wishesme Merry Christmas in early December they get a definite ‘Bah Humbug’ response.
Since my DH died I don’t bother with decorations much. Heloved the decorated tree etc but it’s too painful for me although I do makesome effort. Last year my oldest son congratulated me on taking a minimalist approach.I have been invited to share Christmas dinner with him and his wife this year - so no cooking.:j:j
I went to A£d3 this morning to use up the £5 voucher andspent far more than I intended to but at least am fully topped up for a month(if not longer) – will only need fresh fruit and veg. And it’s comforting tothink that if I get another arthritic flare-up I won’t have to worry about foodand other household essentials. But amvery jealous SQ, as I couldn’t findany Christmas biscuits or other such treats.

I have to admit to being rather paranoid about electric blankets. A friend at uni's house practically burnt down because a housemate left the electric blanket on and it must have been faulty or something. I've never felt able to use one since which is silly as my parents do and their house is still standing.0 -
My parents swear by their electric blankets too but I cant bear the under ones....the wires dig in and I feel like I'm sleeping on barbed wire. I quite like getting in to a cold bed but DH hates it, hence we have brushed cotton bottom sheets. He'd happily sleep in layers of clothing/pjs too but I'm afraid it has to be naked all the way, I can't do with things riding up, twisting round and cutting off circulation whilst I sleep. Makes for chilly visits to the loo in the wee(he he) small hours but the bed always feels lovely and warm when you dive back in.
We have no DDs tonight, ones working, the other is running the tuck shop at youth club, a whole 2.5 hours with no kids! I'd like to venture out to the local for a proper grown ups drink but it needs to stop raining first as DH won't "scoot" in the rain and I can't use an umbrella and push his wheelchair."Start every day off with a smile and get it over with" - W.
