Toughies my sister has had a shock at how expensive logs are and is worried that her plan of heating the downstairs with the fire isn't going to be viable and worried about the gas costs.

Are there any supplier of logs that are a bit cheaper?

I do find that gas is much cheaper than logs, but It depends where you get them from........

We have GCH, which is super duper, BUT , I do love to watch an open fire when its really cold and miserable outside, so we rely on the GCH early mornings and during the day , then light the open fire about tea time and then turn the gas off..........

I do manage to get my own logs, which is free, but I have to put trailer on , then go load up then bring it back then unload it, then it as to be chopped:eek::eek:, so thats lot of hard work for me , I got 2 free loads so far for the winter, ive been offered loads more but I think its getting a bit too much for me now, yea the sea kelp help, but im pushing my health to the limits, with everything else that depends on me.........I ve done hard work all my life and not worried, I expect all of you have also , but at 55 and my health I must ease a bit..... ...................

I did have 8 hundred weight of large lump house coal , so im stocked up for the winter............But gas is definately the cheaper of all the ways to heat your home.................

I painted 2 garden benches today , its that lovely green glade shade by dulux weathershiled , brilliant stuff , but it costs a fortune , I expect I could have bought a lot cheaper brand , but if it wont cover in one coat I end up doing it twice plus and costing more, so its a false economy buying cheap crap...............
No rain , but definately getting cooler in the mornings and evenings now , this time last week it was 29 degrees, and today its 15 so thats a big big drop, so no wonder we notice the difference.........

Pork chops for tea tonight :D....May make a apple and victoria plum crumble, if I can get my butt off this chair , should have done it before I sat down when I came in from outside ...........Got loads of fruit on the trees again this year , beautiful plums and apples............Sheila

Hi everyone, ive had a lovely day out with my mum and eldest DD. We went to kings lynn for a shopping trip.

Mum bought me a lovely dress from Debenhams, I was admiring it on sunday on a leaflet that came free with the newspaper. Today she suggested I tried it on, and I loved it. As I came out the cubicle mum said she would treat me to it. Bless her she knows, I would have admired but not bought it.

I bought my first Christmas present today, reduced ornament of a Disney character for my daughter. We looked at some other items, but I didn't buy anything else really. Primark had some nice bits in today, although was only window shopping.

Tomorrow is my wedding anniversary, we will have been married for 21 years although we did separate for nearly 2 years. Life has moved on, and we are happy again. Debt free and poor lol

Well tonights tea is bubble and squeak, with bacon and beans.

Mar where is all this amazing cleaning stuff from?? is it a bargain price deal???

    take care x

I'm looking for gloves and scarves again so if I see any or anyone else does in the meantime "Shout":p

I will be checking in Primark, Peacocks, Boyes, Pound Stretcher Initially but Tesco's, Aldi's ASDA etc...won't be far behind I suspect. They usually say when I ask...try in October.

Ive had my gloves , hats , snood, etc for 3 years , I never replace them every year, I wash them up at the end of winter and put away for the next cold spell, that isnt what wear they get really.....................

Also welly boots , I bought a pair of hunters 6 years ago , wear them everyday when its wet to feed chickens, always wash them under tap with a hand brush come up like new and never have to replace them either.........And I walk miles in a week ........
Cost a fortune having to keep replacing items every autumn, one good thing you cant grow out of gloves, hats and scarves and wellies ...:rotfl:...Sheila

You do right Sheila. I've got all mine but kids' need replacing, gloves especially.

I adore hunters wellies. They are pricey but if they have longevity it will be worth the investment. I bought 2x £12 wellies last year. First lot split across the front. I expect the second pair will only see me part through this winter - £36 in 18 months... Hunters sound like a money saving tactic to me
  • I've just looked it up, and Hunter wellies have been made in China since 2008. I work in a shop selling wellies (and other countryish stuff), and am sorry to say that all of them are now equally cr*p, with a very short life. Shegar, I bet your Hunters are pre-2008, when they were still good. All of them now split quite quickly, so you may as well buy cheap ones; D*nlop are pretty good, tho' not stylish! I always look out for old, unworn wellies in charity shops - even find them, occasionally. (Love the way the autocorrect is insisting I discuss willies!!!) HTH, the cake.

Ive had my wellies for years, they were only £4.99 ones but they seem fab.

I'm having one of those days, I mucked up my patchwork and had to unpick a bit, made a hole in a place I can't mend and burnt my finger on the iron. Dinner wasn't going to cook in time, so it's been relegated to tomorrows tea and I sent DD1 out to the chippy (DH is having a bad day and wasn't fit to drive). Hopefully tomorrow will be more productive and less disastrous.

Felt very chilly earlier so added some fluffy socks and slippers, lit some candles and closed all the curtains,,,,feels very snug now.

I was also going to say Hunters are not so good now but you might be able to get some on ebay. There is a country shop near us and I was very amused when someone insisted loudly that he wasn't going to buy Le Chameau wellies (French and still made in France) he wanted proper BRITISH wellies. assistant told him Hunters are now made in China and you would have thought his world had come to an end. He couldn't cpe with buying French wellies so went away empty handed.

I couldn't cope with buying Le Chameau either but that's because of the price!!
It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!

Stilty would bribery work? I am clutching at straws here but a trip to her favourite farm at weekend if she gets ready for school like a big girl? just a thought as I know how much she loves the trip.

DD has just been told her favourite Surestart centre is closing and is going private  so needed and the people that go are so nice DD feels at home there. She is invited to a meeting in a few weeks to see what options are available for her and little man. Bl**dy cutbacks are biting deep and this is a poor area.

Unfortunately its neurological (autistic style) meltdown type behaviour and she is not reason-able with (if you get me). And as for getting over it - it would be nice to think so but we've had some of this behaviour on a smaller scale surrounding getting up for a while and it has got worse with attempting to do it earlier and 5 times a week so I'm not holding my breathe. It was also never crucial that we made nursery on time so could just take things at a slower pace if necessary but not sure school would be so accommodating!!

On a far more positive note, physio was in school again today and is very pleased with DD.
