  • Morning all.

    Carlysmum:

If you child is having any form of issues in the class room whether its day one, or 6 months in, The school has a due of care to call you in for a assessment chat to work towards a action plan to help your child.

Its completely normal for this to happen. Generally the head of the school will enforce this, hence why he / she will want to meet you in person.

What isn’t normal, Is the teacher or TA holding your son by the arm, Unless he is proving to be a danger. So at the meeting your well within your rights to ask the head why this happened to your child & you can express that you do not want it repeated.

Its normally that educational setting that pick up if any child has underlining issues in any sense of the word. Therefore, They can assist you in noticing “signs” if you feel your child has any problems. Most parents worry when their children are acting up & you get called into the school for meetings, However, Sometimes that can be more of a helpful thing rather than scary. My advice to you, Would be to contact the school and ask for the head teacher to call you back at some point to arrange the “meeting” as ask why its needed in the first place.

As I said to KEZLOU. Children are children. They will make you worry but, They are such strong little humans, So getting all the help you can now isn’t such a bad thing.

Keep your chin up hun. And stop worrying. xx

    Be happy & healthy
  • Morning All,
Carlymummy,I do hope all the school issues are sorted with compassion and fairness, whilst good to be on top of things, decisions being made seem to be happening too quickly perhaps? or in a way to cause extra worry?

Alf's Mum, The weather has been bad, not so bad here(though colder)and windy last night...places not that far away have were flooded and quite a lot of damage caused(made it into the newspapers/local TV)possibly national TV(I only saw it on the internet)but weeks earlier I was walking in those areas and taking images on my camera.

I'm hoping to get out again before it really turns bad which is expected as Summer draws to an end. It can be done if the days are chosen carefully and I accept this may mean doing more things indoors or that daylight will be limited. And I need to wrap up clotheswise.

And/or if I stay home make more use of the computer/tv/radio/music and cooking skills. If I can stay in a positive frame of mind and its not as cold as last year I will manage with the dark days and nights. I used to be able to.

Did I say(I bet I have)I see the Osmonds/Hollies soon. Now I plan to make one of my biggest trips to Alnwick but having made it to Whitby and Tynemouth, its a just a slightly longer journey(approx 3 hours by bus)half that time by train but the bus is free(for the time being)and time saved is lost by railway stations usually not be located near a town so you still have to catch a bus, taxi or walk.

I should probably have done all this now in case it stops but I pace myself so may regret not doing as much as possible.

Sorry if I have missed someone or forgotten to say something I hopefully will remember and add later. Fuddle new adventure starts here...:)

  • Morning Toughies I had the pleasure(I really do mean pleasure!) of the morning walk today as He Who Knows had a 7.55 doctors appointment and it was such a lovely time to be out and about with our boy. The temperature was 11 degrees but a stiff little breeze made it feel cooler and such fun walking under the trees as things were plummeting down, sweet chestnuts, acorns etc all round us and swirly leaves which he loves to jump in. The great loon likes full autumn because he can then not only jump in the piles of leaves but have a rollie in them as well, he also likes white frosty mornings and snow because that's great fun to scoot along with your nose and front end on the ground and your back end wagging frantically!!!! Oh he is a delight.

Our house is beginning to resemble a harvest festival, we keep being given bags of windfall apples and when collecting some this morning He Who Knows was asked to pick the lower branches as the tree is suffering from overload so I now have 2 large bucketfulls of pristine eaters to deal with, a neighbour brought over a bag full of pears last night and another huge bag of bramley 'drops' for cider, the lottie has yielded a massive amount of courgettes and raspberries, the runner beans and blackberries are still going really well and as for the tomatoes, oh golly the outside ones are ripening well now and the greenhouse is awash!!! I think it's time to make chutney!!!

Hugs to everyone with problems and worries and cheers for all the good things that have happened, have a good day all, Cheers Lyn xxx.

I agree. No TA/support assistant would ever restrain or even enter a child's personal space unless they were posing a real risk to themselves or others. This isn't appropriate or acceptible behaviour for staff and worrying that staff employed to work with children with needs are displaying these kinds of coping strategies.

Children sometimes can't conform to teachers expectations and it's for everyone to get together and work out a way of how to access resources, training and strategies for the good of the individual child... not the teachers expectations. Be strong in there. Remember they aren't in charge, they don't make decisions, they are a tool in your little boys education so don't feel pressured or worried because they appear professional in their approach. I was a support assistant to children with special educational needs and disaffected behaviour issues in both primary and secondary. I've seen many parent come into a review white as a sheet with worry. I hope your school can make you feel included and calm. :)

Thank you for the well wishes re: the move. I've been here and done this before - thought we were off to pastures new because of transfer with work, and although a different company it's still very real that something may pull the rug from underneath us so not too much in the way of expectations or chicken counting.

That said monnagran I plan pack up my non regular kitchen equipment today as I have one box. The rest are at DH's depot just in case. Tough boxes too as they've had heavy equipment in 'em. ;)

Remember I was after an airer and made it my mission to get one cheaper than £9.99? Wilko's :D £7.25 for I need not cry inside when the forecast says rain.

Ginger cake and custard for supper tonight. I've bought a silicon cake 'tin' from Home Bargains. Not used one before but my tin manages to ruin everything. It's my fault I didn't relise I should line it and then thought that liners will add to the cost of the cake etc so I'e parted company with £1.99 in the hope that it will transform me into baking godess :D Yeah right.

Bake off last night? Shower cap over bowl... proving dough ;) Will be doing that! Home Bargins have a pack of 3 shower plain plastic shower caps for 19p ;)

Toughies my sister has had a shock at how expensive logs are and is worried that her plan of heating the downstairs with the fire isn't going to be viable and worried about the gas costs.

Are there any supplier of logs that are a bit cheaper?
  • Morning all,
Definitely a bite in the air up here today, put the heating on while I was in the shower to take the edge off for getting out. Have managed to resist otherwise though. Must remember to get into Primarnia for thick tights. Can usually wear the same dresses for work in summer and winter just adding tights and cardigans (reminds me, must get a second black one for washing days!).

Mum called last night to say she and my sis are coming up to visit with my four month old nephew on Sunday (they live about 45-60 mins away). He has just recently started on mush lunches instead of milk so will be the first time I get to feed him! Sis has text today to ask if I'm making his lunch too or if she should bring something. Am very happy to make mush for him but not sure what to try, he has apparently had cauli, broccoli, sweet and norm potato, turnip, carrot and is today trying parsnip. I can either try something new or stick with something he's had before. Any suggestions?
Was also suggested i could take him swimming (another new thing for him) or do something else while they visit so will be having a look to see what's available. He's the first baby in the family so I'm a little 'innocent' about the whole thing haha

Hugs to those who need them

  • Fuddle although I'm far from being a baking godess, when I make banana loaf in a tin all I do is line with marg and coat with flour and once baked I allow to cool a little then it slips out nicely.
Sounds simple so apologies if you've tried it.

  • FUDDLE how is your sister going to buy her logs? If she's planning to use the nets that you see in garages and hardware shops that is a very expensive way to go about it. We have them delivered by the lorryfull from log merchants and each lorryload (It's a big tipper truck) costs us just under £100 and that is round about 20 piled high wheelbarrows full and 2 loads see us through the whole winter and cold weather. We also never turn down garden trees that have been taken down or pruned and if ever I see wood when I'm out walking even if it's only thin stuff it makes good kindling so that comes home too. The other thing to look out for is an industrial estate where you can often find skips with wood offcuts which they are usually more than pleased to let you have, but you have to ask first, not just take it. Years ago we had a timber yard fairly locally and they would let us fill the trailer with the bits of wood they couldn't use for £10 but they are few and far between now, if you do have one near it might be worth enquiring though, hope that's useful, Cheers Lyn xxx.

Cool here and starting to rain. Waiting in for the roofer still - we phoned HA yesterday at 2, asking when he was coming and she said oh he was there this morning and now he's off for the day  I said well no he wasn't lol so we waiting again.
And a nice big box of soap supplies for me which is coming 1-2pm. I got a wee map and it says "Brian your driver today is in Broxburn" :D I can track Brian all day till he gets here - he seems to have a hell of a lot of deliveries. I need to get to that box before the RV because if he sees the receipt he'll kill me. I got a bit carried away with xmas ;)
Oh and I've put on 2lb eating a MINISCULE microwave steam pud!!

Lol Mar! I had a delivery like that last week, I was delivery 26 and I watched the van (Richard:rotfl:) trundling across the map from Swansea. He didn't do his first delivery until he was in the hills across the harbour. I then watched him bimble around town doing the other 25 deliveries until he cam to me - it was hypnotic!

I have been doing a lot of interweb buying of beading supplies, thankfully from lots of different suppliers, so I get lots of tiny packages, but OH is just starting to cotton on...

I now have a big stash of stuff I have made, but no idea how to sell - apart from the the fact I don't want to do it via something like Etsy, any ideas peeps?

Logs - they seem expensive here, about £100 a load, but they are very viariable and we still havn't found a reasonable, reliable supplier. I worry when I know more about the logs (best varieties for burning, how seasoned they are etc.) than the person delivering them. We could not heat the ground floor all the time, it would be too expensive. We also burn our own wood when we cut back stuff in the garden, and will collect when it is offered.

I would say that burning wood is not the easy option, all the stacking and hauling in, much easier to turn on a switch BUT it is MUCH nicer :).
Think big thoughts but relish small pleasures
