  • Morning Toughies, the weather here is alternating between raining in stair rods from a steel grey sky and beautiful blue sky and warm sunshine. The Dockling and I managed a dry walkies this morning which was very nice, it's smelling decidedly autumnal out there today and I'm seeing more and more fallen leaves on the grass and small drop acorns under the oaks to crunch through as the boy has his inevitable sniff!!!

I'm feeling stiff and achey today, don't know if I've got something or if it's just a general relaxing of everything after the build up to and actual having of the wedding. I'm usually quite full of ping but today I feel like hibernating. Never mind, I've houseworked and I'm going to wash floors in a minute then it's all clean and tidy except for a small pile of ironing which can definately wait if it has to. He Who Knows and DD1 are out candian canoeing down the River Wye this morning from Symons Yat for about 15 miles, something they've wanted to do for ages and finally found a weekend they could both make, hope they're enjoying it and having fun. I'm going to try for a trip down to the New Forest during the week to collect crab apples for a batch of jelly, we know a nice walk where there are many trees and we take a rucksack each and pick into that which gives me enough for a decent sized batch of jelly. It's a staple in the winter as it's nice on bread, with cheese and in game, pork or poultry casseroles, it adds a nice fruity note to the sauce. The wild harvest here looks to be good, I keep coming across blackberry pickers and folks out after hazel nuts when I'm walking the boy, good to see it used and not left to waste.

MONNAGRAN thank you for the chandelier story, that had me howling, I'm very grateful even if my ribs now hurt as much as the rest of me. Look after yourselves and have a good day, Cheers Lyn xxx.

Monnogran, I'm (mostly lapsed) Catholic and I'm sad to inform you that firemen don't usually feature in mass.
Nice to see you Katieowl, congratulations on your new little addition.
The sun is shining here and I'm not quite sure why I feel so sluggish. Need to work up the enthusiasm to get something done. Not least because PILs are coming to babysit on Tuesday and the house is not presentable. However, the vacuum cleaner blew up and we are having DH's grandparents' old one (old as in used a couple of times only, they are very particular about vacuum cleaners!), which PILs are bringing with them so that will have to remain disgusting.

Thought I'd share this to give everyone a little laugh! The BF has one of these 'designer stubble' mini beard things, he feels it stops him looking like a 10 year old, I feel he looks like a hobo when it gets too long.
Anyway, I just got a call of 'LJ, I need you' from the bathroom, went through and discovered him trying to trim it with his clippers. Except he appears to have used too short a cut and now looks bald in patches and needed me to 'tidy it up'. I did my best but he looks a little on the silly side! haha

  • I cut hubby's hair with clippers, grade 4 all over, one day I did it just before we were going to a family christening, I'd taken the comb attachment off to trim his neck hair when hubby said 'you've missed a bit' tugging at a few long hairs right at the front, forgetting I'd taken the comb off I whizzed the clippers across the top of his head, cutting off a swathe of hair across the top of his head.
When I managed to stop laughing I put the grade 1 comb on and tidied it up, nobody would have noticed apart from it being too good a story not to share.

Oh LJ men and their facail hair, what is it all about? Mine has had a beard and tache for ever but decided on the birht of our daughter to shave the whole lot off! I came round to the sight of a bare face, grunted ' and you can bl**dy grow that back quick you look stupid' and promptly fell asleep.

Monna its true that church services should be joyful and that certainly was, I would have been struggling not to laugh out loud. Mar is right I can see Dave Allen doing a skit on it, how I loved him, so irreverent.

Just been to Mr T, it seems you now need a mortgage application to buy a chicken  I prefer a whole chicken but will have to wait till the market is open tomorrow and see if they are any cheaper there.

On the bra subject, my Dd bought me one of those one piece stretchy bra's, absolutely fab, you can hardly feel it on but getting it on is reminiscent of houdini getting out of a straight jacket (in reverse). I have actually got stuck a couple of times with it rolled up at the back and had to wander off to OH to get him to untangle me - men do think its ok to laugh don't they?. Im a 42B but it works well for me, however with arthur-itis in my shoulders and neck I have to think before I put it on :D

Hester, my mum does my stepdads hair and did similar but had to shave him number 0 all over. Poor b*gger spent a couple of weeks wearing a baseball cap at all times other than shower and bed! haha

OH gets an tuppenny all off once a fortnight, no guards, just the clippers. I have to resist the temptation to leave a little tuft sticking out at the back...

Ginny - Aldi do a 1.5kg FR chicken for £4.99 and they are very good. If you are happy with just an ordinary one they do a bigger one for about £3.50.

Lidi are doing ham offcuts for £1.75 for 450gr. They are also very good, the pack I got was just lots of lovely slices. Last time they were smoked ham in thicker bits, perfect for cooking with.

    Afternoon All,
I'm so restful this afternoon I thought of staying in but will make my way to the Rememberance service at 4pm. I have my bingo tonight too.

The sun is out too so that's welcome...I can be ready quickly...a shave/wash and clothes on in double quick time.

And if the legs work I can be at church in approx 15 minutes(I used to be quicker)

There isn't much hair to worry about(all round the sides and back)

The story of the mishap at the funeral sounds very much like a D. Allen sketch(never missed him)and though I have a faith I was never offended by his humour and even after losing Mum on the internet I found two similar sketches I remembered Marty Feldman and Spike Milligan about funerals and still find them funny.

Hilarious! THANKS so much for sharing. I have a very vivid picture in my head of the scene. Something for the church newsletter perhaps? ha ha

ps pity there were no firemen either ;)

    sq:)

Actually it was the firemen I was looking forward to, but didn't like to say so.

Hi everyone, finally caught up with everything. Yesterday was a rest day. I woke up took DD to work and then slept on the sofa. OH came home and we then took mum for a belated meal. It was 2 for £10 so not too bad.

Today we had free tickets for truckfest in Newark. The entry price was £15 each but I had managed to get 3 free tickets. Only thing we bought was a cup of tea. I packed a picnic up and we went out had that and returned to continue walking round.

    Just chilling now x
