DD1 has her driving test tomorrow morning, I'll be expecting you all to cross every available crossy thing tomorrow at 10.20am!
Going to make my raise bed this weekend, what can I be looking to plant out now? We pretty much eat every sort of veg going so I'm open to any ideas (preferably foolproof)
I hope there's good news about the driving test further down the thread ...
Am very jealous of that raised bed, Pooky. I've just started gardening in containers and have planted turnips, coriander, spinach, rocket, lettuce and a salad leaves mix. They're all under glass but if you're further south than me (I'm in Glasgow) you might get away with just using cloches if there's frost forecast.
Well, it's Sunday morning so not unreasonable to have a lie in, right? Seems I forgot to tell Sammy-cat as he woke me at 5:45 this morning! Never mind. Plans for the day involve a trip up to see my seedlings, and going to Church at some point. My main activity will be knitting though. I finished the shawl I was making last night and am now working on a blankie for my sister's cat's Christmas present!Household: Laura + William-cat

Hi all,
I've had a great day today. This morning we were invited to a big service in the RC Church to celebrate their 150th anniversary. I'm not a Catholic and am not too sure about how they set about things so I sat right at the back. Therefore I had an excellent view of the procession where the bishop was accompanied by 4 men holding a canopy on poles over him as he walked.
Unfortunately they had to process under an ornate brass chandelier. Unfortunately although the front 2 poles missed the chandelier one of the back ones didn't.
Unfortunately the chandelier was fully equipped with real candles.
Even more unfortunately all the candles were lit.
Sadly, none of the bearers realised that their canopy was now inextricably tangled up with the chandelier and they kept walking, with the chandelier and its full complement of flaming candles following like a well trained dog above them. Finally they reached the end of the chandelier's chain and came to an abrupt stop. There was a short hiatus while the bearers struggled to free the imprisonned canopy and one glorious moment when someone managed to dislodge the pole and one candle, plus holder, hurtled to the ground. I will always cherish the memory of 500 horrified faces waiting for the canopy and/or the bishop to go up in flames. The whole party disappeared behind a pillar at that point, so I didn't see what happened next but as there was no sign of a fire engine I assume that someone had the presence of mind to stamp on the candle.
It was about 20 minutes before the chandelier stopped swinging wildly from side to side.
Best church service I've been to in a long while. Pity there were no fire engines though.

Hilarious! THANKS so much for sharing. I have a very vivid picture in my head of the scene. Something for the church newsletter perhaps? ha ha

Morning all,
I've read through, but I was at least 5 pages behind. I have no chance of remembering it! Nonetheless, hugs to those who need them and thank you for the laughs where I got them.
Several of you seem to have managed to stay out of the fray, weather it was relatives being a bit insensitive with their good fortunes, or the very trying areas of the school and children's activities gates. I can't always be so good, but I do take you all as inspiration, especially where there are similar goings on at work.
Its been a very busy weekend so far. We attempted to go to the local allotment show yesterday, but didn't realize there were two sets of allotments near us. When we got there we felt a bit like interlopers so we didn't stay long. Although they handed out flyers, we got the distinct impression that only those from the site were really expected or welcome. We had a quick look at the veg and then made off very fast. We had to go into town to pick up Krona for me, and a few friends were meeting up at a free beer festival so we stopped to chat with them. Unfortunately they ran out of Krona, and the beer festival was awful. Still a nice chat with friends and made the most of our train fare. Since it took us almost an hour of walking to find the allotments, and then we walked around town for awhile we've both got quite sore legs today!
Today I'm planning two weeks worth of menus and doing a bit of a house clean. That way, OH already has the list next weekend while I'm away and can get what we need. In term time if we don't stay on top of it, everything falls apart very quickly. If I can manage it I'll do some bread in between to go with our soup tonight and to smarten up OH's sandwich tomorrow. Right. I'd better get started.0 -
Morning toughies
Hello katieowl and many congrats on the grandbubba, lovely news.
Glad you got yourself kitted out for winter jem.
I need boots and a warm coat for this winter and will definitely buy them. I have been making do for too long, trying not to spend the money. Last year's old coat was too thin for the really cold weather. I keep putting off thinking I will wait until I loose weight. If I do happen to loose weight one day then the charity shop will have an extra warm coat to sell on won't they and I will be too pleased to have the weight to care!
A big thanks to everyone who shared their menopause stories. I just need to get my cottonwool head around it all. I may see the doctor but not in a rush to... it is like speaking to a stone, he is so cold with no bedside manner at all. I am pretty sure it is the peri-menopause because my cycles are all over the place and have been for a while in addition to the other symptoms. Even psychologically I need to get sorted - a new phase in my life. I am going to get all practical - make that cake (A BIG THANKYOU FOR THAT MRS VEGPLOT), look after myself better and get some books out from the library. I find that talking on here and reading books help me to cope with any area that life throws up.
On the subject of hormones, think DS9 is at the beginning of a new phase too. He finally gets exactly how babies are made... in quite some detail I may add!he has asked me several times in the past and I realise it hasn't really made full sense. We had a very frank conversation recently. Neither of us was embarrassed - both my boys have always asked lots of questions about everything and DH and I always answer them (according to their age/level of understanding obviously) so I just treated the questions in the same matter of fact manner. I feel though he needs a book he can read on his own aimed at pre-teen boys so I have one on order for him though my book club. Also ordered some other books to get free delivery to put away for Christmas gifts.
Well rain forecast soon so I won't be able to put any washing on today. We were planning a nice family day - going to the woods for a walk, taking tubs for any blackberries along the way but think we may have to play some indoor games together instead. A roast chicken dinner with strudel and custard for pudding.
We still have our summer duvets on but felt a little chilly last night so think need to up to the autumn tog. Looking forward to feeling cosy tonight. This evening I am going to do some planning to prioritise my weeks better and work on my health more, a daily long walk is top of the list as I am sure that was why I felt better in the school holidays being out with the children all the time.
hokey cokey enough of my usual ramblings, better get dressed and get some odds and ends done. DH is still asleep, I had a lie in yesterday, his turn today.

Morning all,
Got up an hour before the BF woke so was able to enjoy a cuppa in peace while catching up on the thread. Lived here on my own for the best part of 12 years so sometimes miss the quiet of my own company.. She's got all I wish for in life and more,
Fuddle, I can SO appreciate this sentiment. For half my life (am 32 now) the main thing I've wanted in life is to fall in love, marry and have a family. It's been something that has hurt me for years that I've never found that and (I feel) am running out of time. My little sister on the other hand met someone a couple of years ago, moved in and had their first baby in May. The pain and jealousy I felt through the pregnancy and since felt almost unbearable at times (coupled with a bad broken heart at the same time) but I have done everything I can to hide it from my sister and I really do love my nephew more than I thought possible.
At the end of the day I believe that jealous is a perfectly natural emotion, it's how you deal with it that defines you as 'good or bad'.
I've just tried to remember that I do have a good life with many blessings that my sister may be jealous of me for.
In other news, it's another sunny morning up here. Got one load of whites left to go in the machine so I'll get that done and hopefully hang out. The Bf's mum told us to take the still slightly damp washing to hers to blast in the dryer which was a big help. Am also going to bake a banana bread (decided to use up the contents of the cupboards rather than move them in a few weeks). Have got loads of paperwork related to work and the house move built up so I best get reading all that and auctioning whatever needs actioned!
Housework is being abandoned though, will start the flylady thread from tomo :T
Big hugs and healing thoughts to all who need them.

katieowl it is lovely to see you back and congratulations on the new grandaugther. How has the B&B been for you over the summer?
savingqueen you will need to let us know what the cake tastes like.
Yesterday we had MIL and both of my parents around for a roast chicken dinner prior to us taking DD back to uni this coming friday. We had a lovely evening. Mum and dad are looking after two of my younger nieces and nephews so they came along as well and provided a lot of entertainment.
Off to a local food festival today. We will be doing a 2 hour stint with collection buckets for a local charity that Mr VP fund raises for. It is nice an sunny again today, fingers crossed it lasts as I do not fancy standing for 2hrs in the rain.
Right I had better get moving. Have a good day everyone.I am playing all of the right notes just not necessarily in the right order.
