JEM do you think it would be an answer to your not wanting to go out if you said to the others why not start the evening at my house as I can't come this evening and we'll have a glass of wine before you go off out? Then you won't feel like you have missed out and you'll be able to enjoy a 'pamper' evening and stay in your dressing gown and be comfy indoors, hope that helps, Cheers Lyn xxx.0

That would be a fantastic idea Lyne but with 3 little boys running round I am not sure that would work lol.
Pluss they are starting at the birthday girls house at 3:eek: to all get ready from there.
Nevermind I can go if I could go if I like but I don't really want to I think is the bottom line. I know dh didn't really want me to and I am too tight thinking what else I could spend the money on been snuggled walking to school or take my dog out makes more sense to me lol having nice boots to last all winter and not just one night makes me feel better about spending money on meI have dyslexia so I apologize for my spelling and grammar0 -
Morning All,
Looks like everyone having a stressful couple of days!
Mrs LW - glad to hear that your boy is on the mend.
Jem - know the feeling!
Nuttyp - agree with Mrs Chip.
Will read through thread properly later. I am v annoyed as OH cut through cable of borrowed hedge trimmer so we have had to replace at nearly £50. Not massive in the great scheme of things but he did not feel the need to tell me until I found areceipt for replacement.Maybe I am over -reacting!? Anyway hope everyone is ok, I have to go to town and do some much needed provision shoppng. Have a good day all - weather here is glorious.0 -
Mrs LW I think that is a really good idea. That way Jem can still be part of the evening without having to spend a fortune.
Have checked out the painting we have done in the living room and need to go over the edges of the ceiling again and then that room is finished apart from papering the chimney wall. We will then start on the dining room.
DD1 has had to redo a piece of work for uni on a module she has failed. Deadline is today and she has just announced that the work can not be submitted via email and she needs to hand deliver it. That's a 31/2 hour round trip . Mr VP has already done a 2hr round trip to work and back today.
I ate the first ripe tomato from the greenhouse yesterdayand have noticed that one of the outside ones is just starting to change colour.
I had to reboil the strawberry jam as it did not set and had to do the same with the lemon marmalade. we have had them with HM american pancakes for breakfast.
Painkillers seem to have kicked in so had better start wielding the paintbrush.
nuttyp good luck with your decorating. I think that you should point out at your disciplinary the extra stress and hours you are working are having a cumulative effect on you and may be the reason for a momentary laspe.
Sorry Jem our posts had crossed. Do not feel guilty for doing what you want with your own money.I am playing all of the right notes just not necessarily in the right order.

JEM would it work if you gave the boys thier own non alcoholic 'coctails' and let them be grown up escorts to the birthday girl and friends? could they cope with maybe handing round crisps and cheese biscuits if they had some snacks of thier own 'specially for them' things, would it make them feel very grown up? The others could come to you first after getting ready at home, the boys might enjoy it with all of you? Cheers Lyn xxx.0

MrsLurcherwalker wrote: »Hello NOTJUSTLAURA, my doggie walking friend volunteers at a local Riding For The Disabled yard not too far from where we live, has done since she retired a couple of years ago and loves every second of it. You'll soon be very fit if you decide to join in she spends the day walking out with all ages of people with all sorts of disabilities, after having groomed, mucked out and saddled up multiple horses and ponies and all the same in reverse at the end of the day. She works with a good bunch of other volunteers and is very glad she decided to make some time for something useful on her retirement.
Thanks for that, MrsLurcherwalker. Those were basically my thoughts about doing it - do a bit of good, get fit, spend time with horses again and maybe use it as a stepping stone to me riding again if/when I can afford it. I'm not ready to do it yet but am on my way
Is it hot where other people are? It's damp here in Glasgow with a decided nip in the air! Of course, the leaves are already turning here. Just a few, but you can tell autumn's on his way!Household: Laura + William-cat

Jem you're just like me. I'm tight too. I would rather put myself out and save a few bob if I can, than pay someone. If I can't afford to do/go somewhere I have to just say. I would get so upset at making excuses, and sometimes making a lie up to cover that I had no money, that the guilt and shame didn't allow me to have the evening in peace on top of feeling rubbish for missing out. Being upfront let me switch off and just do my thing in the house. I'm sorry you're going to miss being with your friends. It is such a lot of money isn't it? I don't at all blame you Jem.0

I think I am just going to say the £50 I have got it need to spend on taking my kids out the last week of the holidays. I know you will understand my kids come first and I would love a night out with you lovely ladies maybe another time with more than a weeks notice so I can save a few pounds of my housekeeping each week. And !!!!!! them if they don't understand it's no point having them in my life. I am quick to get rid of people in my life normally if they don't get my family life the f$$k them. I no longer need them. MY KIDS come FIRST. XI have dyslexia so I apologize for my spelling and grammar0

Speaking of tight
If we move you know we can only afford a 2 bedroom flat until I get work? Would it be better to get a downstairs or upstairs flat? I'm thinking upstairs as I'm hoping that heat will riseWhat do you think?

Fuddle, having lived in many flats myself--a couple of thoughts on upsstairs vs. downstairs. See if it has a lift. Carrying shopping for a family up many flights of stairs is hard work and carrying the rubbish back down isn't much fun either, although some have chutes for this purpose.
If your girls are very active indoors, it might be worth it to get a downstairs flat. First, check to see if there are protections/the windows are high up. Some councils won't house young families in high rises because of dangerous windows. Second, I think many neighbours are apt to complain about normal walking around, and even more apt to complain about children and I would hate for your girls to feel stifled in their own home. I think the problem is usually with younger children.
If the area feels a bit unsafe to you, then perhaps steer away from ground floor, and they're more apt to be broken into.
Just some thoughts! As for heat rising up, to be honest I think I'd be more interested in having few external walls--i.e. a middle flat rather than an end, particularly if the end is north facing!0
