Hello again, apologies for absence - work and two world sporting championships are the reasons for absence. :o I was following the World Paralympic Swimming Championships online, love para-sports and the swimming was brilliant.

I got involved in my own way, was tweeting the broadcasters covering it on the live stream and having a lot of fun too with this. What I didn't realise at the time was that Channel 4 has kept the coverage online and my daft little comments are preserved. :o

DS's 30th birthday today, and he is the youngest - how did that happen? :D

I've just logged in to my Valued Opinions survey site and been credited with £164 worth of points for a very lengthy survey project I completed in July. That's a lot of birthday presents sorted for the family!:j:j
I am so pleased ... something to really smile about.

  • Just wanted to say to Kez--dinner was a success. I think actually the loaves can be divided into two for us--half for dinner/lunches and half for the freezer. OH was very impressed and a little taken aback that anyone on a forum would have posted up recipes for me. Little does he know!

Mrs. LW--my Puy lentils arrived today. I will be experimenting that recipe and several of the others next week.

Sad news at the Chip Cave this morning - Little Al died in the night. No idea why, sometimes these things are meant to be, but it's very sad.

Sorry Mrs Chip, poor Little Al - at least you gave him the best chance you could and made his little life comfortable and safe.

Edit: Mrs LW, poor Docky! My cat doesn't approve of dogs, but she says given the circumstances she will send a nice Hard Stare without any swearing. I'm given to understand that passes for "Hope you feel better very soon Docky, sorry you had such a horrible experience."

Sorry I haven't mentioned any other posts, I'm on low energy and can barely keep up at the moment. Seeing the Dr in the morning to see if there's anything they can do, but I suspect the answer is just rest till I get over the bronchitis properly.

  • Evening everyone

Mrs L.....so sorry to hear about your little boy - Dexter (my black lab) and I both send lots of love.

I was sorry to hear about Al Mrs Chips.......I was only just admiring his photos when I stumbled further forward to the sad news.

Seems everyone is in need of some hugs and TLC (((xxxx)))

I've now got an infection about my feeding tube site but I guess this at least explains why I've been feeling so rotten since the weekend. Lots of antibiotics and ointment with a double dose of fingers crossed........it couldn't have come at a worse time. My OH's mother died last year and his Dad downsized. He wanted to give us some money whilst he was still around but we refused as it's not what we wanted. So he booked us an all-inclusive 5* holiday in Turkey without us knowing which is set for 7 September. I can imagine nothing worse than trying to explain to a foreign hospital all my medical conditions!!! But fingers crossed we've caught it early enough.

We are both so looking forward to the holiday. Since I've had to give up work money has been really tight and my OH works extra hours to give us a little more whenever he can. What with that and taking care of me, he desperately needs to relax in the sun. And it will be our first holiday ever without the children which is kind of nice too.

Anyway, I'm off to bake him a lemon-curd cake as he loved the last one so much.

Again, hugs and love to everyone xxx
  • Oh how kind you all are, Docky is stiff and sore but has managed to climb into his armchair and has actually had a couple of decent sleeps this afternoon and has made it out into the garden for some outside water but not eaten or peed yet so I can't give him the anti-imflamatory tablets until he has food in his stomach. I don't know whether to bring a matress down and spend the night with him or let him come upstairs and settle on the landing like he normally does. Whatever he is not as disinclined to move as he was this morning and is fully weight bearing on his poorly kicked back leg, so there could be worse news couldn't there?

Thanks to all his goggie friends and JPSs cat for the kind words and the hard stare (much appreciated!) and I'll let you all know how he is tomorrow.

FPK have fun with the lentils, Cheers Lyn xxx.

It's autumn here - 11c today - was down to 6c yesterday. Leaves are falling and there's a nip in the air either side of the day.

It's none too warm here either Sheila, in (sometimes) sunny Cheshire! We had a nice day but for August it's not really that warm. Where's this heatwave we were promised eh?!

Oh, poor Docky! Do tell him that we will give up the spelling lessons until he is feeling himself again. Give him a slurp and a scratch behind the ears from me. And take care of yourself - I'm not offering you a slurp and a scratch behind the ears, unless you fancy it of course, but it's horrible when your beloved pet is suffering so you need to be kind to yourself.

Kez, you stick up for yourself and your boys. What entitles anyone else to even comment on someone's children? Who made them the assessment monitor? Blummin' cheek.

The story about SG appalled me. Now I could send up a group of people to replace her Rev's missing congregation. They're a bit venomous, very gossipy, power mad, think they can do what they like and no-one can stop them, devious, vindictive and back-stabbing. Should get on with SG's Rev a treat. This Island can well do without them.
There is still great turmoil here. We went out yesterday and came home to 44 messages of support on the phone. The latest idea is that they will find a building somewhere and set the Rev up in her own church! It's getting a bit scary. We really didn't want to be in the middle of a pitched battle. It seems a bit undignified.

MS has gone out of the window the past few days. Beans and courgettes have remained uncut and unpicked. Tomatoes are lucky to get a can of water tipped over them occasionally. The fridge is full of this weeks food as we have been eating out since the balloon went up and the dust is settling in a comforting blanket over everything. The ironing mountain has reached giddy heights, piles of detritus are taking over all floor space and I'm needing a roll of wallpaper for my to-do list.
To top it all I've not had time to bake bread so bought (hangs head in shame) a lovely granary loaf from the baker's. I did enjoy it, but biting on a slice too hard I managed to break off a big piece of my tooth. Cue an expensive trip to the dentist. Will I never learn?
