morning all!!!
Been up since half five, silly me couldn't sleep.
DS2 came in our bed last night again, poor thing wet his bed.:(
I'm shocked i've actually cleaned the oven :eek:
think the pain killers are making me high!! :rotfl::rotfl:
You see i have different opinion to others regarding Jack, some of her recipes are not my cup of tea. They not very tasty and not filling for an adult male and 13 yr old lad with hollow legs.
She also doesn't go into must details regarding the basics such as how to make stock from a chicken etc so say for a family of three some of the things she writes aren't that relevant.
While other recipes are really good. But thats just my opinion.:o
FUDDLE i don't soak the country mix the night before. My mother just taught me to cook it on the day as then it doesn't go slimy and is quick to cook.
The lads are at play scheme to day till half one then DS1 has to go for an xray at the orthodontist to see if he needs braces.
I'm dreading it, but needs must.
Had a really good time at my friends house, the kids love it there, we just sat there chilling drinking tea and gassing on. haha
Also borrowed some books off my friend, Gena Showlater and other s so going to see what they like.
After that my dad turned so we were chatting, then went over his and OH fixed his boiler. He's been waiting weeks for the council sort the thermostat out. Took OH 2 minutes to press one button, hey presto working boiler. Don't worry my partner is gas safe qualified or he would never have touched it.
As we were about to go, my dad said do you want a teapot, me i jumped for it. I've been after one for ages. He then gives me the little one which he uses, and said here have mo's (my mother). I'll use the larger white one. I'm so chuffed its my mothers 2 cuppa teapot.:D:D
Oh and he gave me some cuttings for houseplants so fuddle beware i have some for you, if i can keep them alive!0 -
Morning all
Another early riser here, needed to crack on with some ironing and sorting stuff for CS before the littlies surfaced. It's nice and sunny here, not too warm, bit of a breeze so washing going out when it's done.
I'm seeing the dr today, regular appt re depression, but I know I'm slipping downhill again, not sure why.Well, at least I'm upright and breathing, the wolf isn't near our door at the minute, the littlies aren't arguing (yet!) and I'm going to see my sis later on, so things can;t be that bad.
Baked with the kids yesterday, apple and almond buns, and have some gingerbread mixture to get in the oven, although adult DS has raided it - does anyone else eat raw gingerbread dough!

Welcome iris..I also have 2 autistic boys one 13 and one 9 then we have little ollie he's 7. I have lots of problems with school and they are constantly sent home or to a unit but there's is supposed to be a school with a autistic center on it. I am considering home education for them but not sure how to go about it as they have statements.
Anyway we will worry about school the last week of August.
I better move my !!!
Happy Day allI have dyslexia so I apologize for my spelling and grammar0 -
For some reason I'm not getting emails any more and keep missing the posts. Stop talking until I catch up! Go and read a book for erm...about 5 hours all of you!
I love the We'll eat Again and Eating for Victory cook books - they make sensible normal food - cheap and filling.
I'm thinking to start gearing up for winter now, they had ground frost up in the glens and nights have got a lot cooler here. Starting to drool over wool websites...0 -
Morning all,
So many of us wi depression. (((Hugs))) to those who want one x
Irisviolet my son was diagnosed with autism & global delay in April. He's 4 & starting school in September which I am in a huge panic about. If you need to talk, I am here. Although I'm not the best to talk to as am just getting my head around it all x
I have just mopped the kitchen floor & it's not even 9am. May need a lie down:eek:
Ds1 has a friend coming over all day today. All day was my suggestion. I have no idea why.
I need to do some baking today. Am trying to use up open packets before I move. Move date is on just over 2 weeks all going well.
I like Shirley Goode. I don't understand her stance towards A girl called Jack. She seems very defensive, which isn't really like her.
There is a thread in the families section on here which is just awful. I am biting my tongue as I suspect the op may be a troll. But it is awful. Can we hide threads on this site. I know I can on another forum I go on.
Right, I need to get on.
Take care all, you are all so lovely

Welcome aboard IRIS VIOLET another new friend to play with, it's always lovely to have new folks join in the chat.
MRSMH don't worry if there is the odd discord on this thread, we always sort it out as amicably as we can. We are a diverse and varied community and all have different experiences in life. The strength of what we have is that we have all had shared experience of really hard times in our lives and are either working to make things better or have already done so as much as we are able. If we can help each other we do it willingly and if anyone needs a little TLC it is there without having to ask. Occasionally we have a blip, but it's the exception not the rule and is really not typical of this online community, we're usually very well disposed towards each other, so don't worry pet, Lyn xxx.0 -
mrslurchwalker nothing on this thread has upset me. It's on another forum on here. On here, we can discuss & agree to disagree. The thread on the other forum is just vile. I shouldn't go back & read it. But I can't help it!

Thanks MRSMH , it's nice to be seen as civilised folks , Cheers Lyn xxx.0

Morning everyone,
Welcome Iris!
Mrs. MH, I've had a few experiences like that on MSE forums. At one point I just decided I wasn't going to go into that particular section of the boards any more and in another instance I had some success blocking a particular poster.
Hugs to those struggling with black dogs and a big pat on the back for those of you who have got up the courage to mention it to the gp--for the first time or to mention it again if your current situation isn't working. SDG, I've found my GPs have never minded if I ask about a couple of things in the same appointment, in fact, it was only a few months ago that I realized you were meant to book multiple appointments for multiple issues:o. I do try to remember that they only have a few minutes per patient otherwise others will be waiting, but often I find they are happy to address several things at once, particularly if one of them is a very simple and quick BP check and we can chat about the other thing while they input the data/I roll down my sleeve etc. Perhaps mention it while you're having your BP taken and ask if it would be best to make a separate appointment?
I'm a lot calmer today. I know Thursday's appointment will be over relatively quickly, and I also know that I can't do anything about waiting for the extension. Little is likely to happen now that we are in August as most of the faculty disappear in August. I will get on with what I'm working on. A very wise man once told me that nothing is as important as what I am doing right now, and I try to remember that.
On the Shirley Goode/A Girl Called Jack thing, I find the whole thing a little baffling. I felt perhaps Shirley's comments weren't as gentle and well-thought out as they could be (considering her experience), but I also did not see them as criticism, more someone thinking things through as they wrote and wondering about how to complement Jack's work. However, I also understand Jack's point that she receives a lot of criticism and felt it was time to respond. I must confess that while I will be trying the fish paste recipe, I will be using a frozen Salmon fillet instead of fish paste--that isn't to say I think Jack is wrong to experiment with fish paste, but to say that I have the means (both monetary and skills-wise) to change the recipe and would prefer to do so. The whole debacle makes me a bit sad as I would like to see the two women team up and work together and I think they have both perhaps misread each other a bit. It also saddens me to see the stereo types flying, i.e. Guardian readers say/think this, OR people who read frugal lifestyle blogs like Jack's do or do not do x,y, z. I thought what Jack did well all along was to write about food poverty in a way that did not alienate people based on their political viewpoints, but instead got them thinking about food poverty and some practical and feasible solutions. I hope the conversation can go back in that direction because I don't think backing people into a corner by stero typing is at all helpful. I also hope I haven't offended anyone with my comments!
Right, time for me to get back to work.0 -
