SDG - when you are with your GP tomorrow please mention your depression, he may not be willing to sort two problems at once but he would likely be able to book your next appointment for you, saves you calling up and trying to get an appointment.
OH has been going every week with his for a while now and at each appointment the doctor makes the next appointment ready.
Also while our practise says you cant discuss more than one problem at a time, for serious stuff they throw the rules out of the window.0 -
My take on Corned beef hash, is to chop onions, carrots leek if you have one to hand,, and potatoes add to small quanity of water. gently simmer until cooked add chopped up corned beef, a couple of beef stock cubes, handful of peas. Cook for another ten mins or so. Lovely under pastry crust, served with red cabbage or beetroot.

To be fair Molly, when you read the comments of Jack's post, many share the same views as Lyn by suggesting that a lot of her criticism is due to food snobbery or left-wing ideas. Jack's retaliation was not just aimed at Shirley Goode, she made that clear.0

We have thunder and lightning, and it's nearly dark indoors. Loving it.........my poor lottie is a dustbowl and I want to plant a green manure crop any day now. Torrents are hissing down, my waterbutts will be topping up. Isn't violent rain exciting when you're dry indoors?
Can see from pix online that the part of Britian where I holidayed in the heatwave is now flooded. For once in this life, I got my timing right............
I bought salmon paste for the first time in years recently. 3 for 99p in 99p Store. One jar did 3 days' worth of packups for lunch at work. Never thought of using it for cooking, which shows why we need the Jacks of this world, gawd love 'er.
I've just used the leftover Jus-Rol from the freezer to make a small pie in a Pyrex dish, with the stewed apricots and a chopped up apple to make it a bit chunkier. Had a bit left over from trimming the sides of the bowl so rolled it, chucked in some sultanas and folded over, onto the oven sheet beside the Pyrex.
Smells lush in here. Going to have a cuppa and the sultana turnover now, nom nom nom.
Keep on keeping on, lovely people.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

MOLLY dear, how lovely to hear from you again. I have a great respect for Shirley Goode, I have every cookery book she has ever produced and find her very common sense approach to life very refreshing and always have. I also have a great respect for people like Jack who no matter what situation they find themselves in just pull themselves up by their bootstraps and just get on with life as best they can with what resources they have. We are all entitled to our own opinion, even me!0

Finally have sorted my car insurance, I have been getting really lazy about these things lately and leaving it too late and ending up auto renewing, little car is due tomorrow so I sat at 5.30 and cancelled the auto renew and then went mad getting quotes, am so glad I did, my renewal was £250 and I have just paid £175 and will also receive £25 cashback through topcashback as well.
MrsLW - you are entitled to as many opinions as you want you are so thoughtful0 -
Evening all - some hugs required here today I think - Ginny for the sciatica, Fairy Princess for the tests and bureaucracy, SDG for that dratted black dog (good idea of Kidcat's to mention it). Please forgive me if I have forgotten anyone and have a virtual hug anyway.
Ginny - way to go DD! That's great news, hope she knows to call up tax credits as well as she should get a premium for DLA award, tell her to make sure she asks for it to be backdated to the date it was awarded as they don't always do that automatically. There are also some good FB groups (mainly closed ones) for parents if that is her thing that can help with things like days out/ general support and ranting and other DLA stuff. I only belong to 3 general ones but PM me if she would like an intro.
Speaking of things that make life easier - we had another lovely day at stay and play - DD made a butterfly necklace and DS did great 'swimming' even floating around in the water without holding on to either of us!! Then we had her SW round later who did a carers assessment for me and has said he will get the SS OT to come out and assess us as my back s playing me something rotten at the moment. So I'm kind of "great, whoop woo" and at the same time "oh sh*t, more medicalised equipment cluttering up the place and making us look like a nursing home" There's no pleasing some people is there? I think it's mostly that, yes I know these things will help us (even if SS OT recommends anything and that's not a guarantee by any means) but it is one more aspect of our lives that is not 'normal'.
My mum coming down tomorrow and then will be our parent group in the afternoon. So got a nice day planned tomorrow - think mummy dearest is taking us out for lunch (hurray!!) So if anyone is in an eatery in Skipton tomorrow and sees 2 gorgeous kids sharing their lunches equally between their mouths, the table and the floor but seriously enjoying anything that hits their mouths!! ...... say hi!
Ok off to put tea in then turf DH out of the bath where I think he has gone to sleep. Bless him - I think stay and play wore him out! LOL Hugs to anyone not mentioned who may need one. Take care all and catch you later - X0 -
KidCat, our house insurance was an eyeopener this year. Been with the same company since 1990, insure the cars with them, so you get a discount for multiple policies. Never had a claim made on the house, just put a new roof on it, and live within a 100 metres of a fire hydrant. Well after the discount it was $1229 for one year. Husband finally believed me that the quote was horrific.
Little bit of research, same level of policy from our bank was $735. They apologized for it being so high but the recent floods in southern Alberta required them to raise the premiums!0 -

I dont understand your antagonism and sarcasm towards me. I have never had a problem with any other person on MSE, except you. If you look at my posting history this can be confirmed. It is what stops me from posting on this thread more often - you call yourself inclusive but you are so not in my case. Please tell me what I have said or done to offend you? Is it my posting style or that I tend to chip in with controversial remarks? Is that not allowed on this thread? I try in my internet life and real life to be a kind person, but like anyone if I feel very strongly about a subject I will comment and am sorry if that comes across in the wrong way.
Anyway back on track - I read Shirley's blog and to me there is a hint of sour grapes which i was surprised about as they share a similar ethos. Shirley is now trying to do her own £10 challenge which should be an interesting comparison.I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.0 -
Hi De lurking to say hello and say how much ive enjoyed reading through this thread the last few days.
Ive been on and off MSE for years now - love the old style board and going to try read and post more.
Me and dh have two kids and a baby due in a few months, just moved to a new house that's more expensive but in such a lovely place and close enough to DHs work that he cycle's. Trying everything now to save money and be thrifty as I've been so wasteful in the past, its a difficult mindset to change.
I am been like a mad woman this past week constantly turning off electric items, using up food and watering everything in sight down!
Managed to do food off £45 this week but after 7 days cupboard is bare and weve ran out of a lot.
Dunno if I need more money to allocate or just be more frugal.
Im a stay at home mum which means yes there is a lot less money coming in but for us its the the right decision. My fondest memory from childhood is that my mum was always there. Try to do lots of free outdoor stuff with them as like many of you have mentioned its about experience not money.
My eldest is also autistic, hes a month of his 5th birthday and was diagnosed at 3 1/2 we have known for a long time. We made the decision I am to home educate him as hes just not ready for school. I dont feel able to trust anyone with him right now anyway, since he left nursery a lot of anxiety has gone.
Anyway so that me - a home educating, sahm with a disabled child! Hopefully ill post often as I love this thread its so positive.0
