My two just designed their own thank you cards and wrote a good bye message inside.

I don't do teacher gifts, which having received many as a teaching assistant may sound a bit off I appreciate. I just don't want to buy into the commercial idea of gifts, don't know if they would appreciate home made items and think if my children's teachers turn their nose up at 'just' a card then they're in the wrong job - their issue and not mine as a parent ;)

That's just my take on it though. I know so many want to show their gratitude towards teaching staff :)

fuddle - if it were just DD7 teachers then I wouldnt bother but as DS9 teachers are so exceptional I really feel the need to show my appreciation. I was stunned when I overheard one of the TAs said last week to a parent how she looked forward to our gifts as they were always original and special. So I know they at least appreciate it, DD7 teachers I have no idea if they appreciate it or not, but they are treated as equally as DS teachers and DD doesnt feel left out :)

Am getting all emotional tonight as a friend of mine is moving down south at the weekend and I am gutted she is going, I know its the right thing for their family but I will miss her so much.

    Hi.
Not a suspicion of thunder here - dammit. I love thunder storms. We did have about 6 drops of rain at about 3.00pm but that was it. Pathetic. No release from watering.
The temp in my study is still 27 so I guess it's another night with the fan on.

Life is manic here with lots of things kicking off, but I'm much too tired to go into details. None of it affects me over much but there is a certain amount of turmoil going on.

Tomorrow DS2 and I are off to the mainland for our annual dentist appointment and to collect DGS who breaks up from school. We're bringing him back for the summer holidays - lots of happy people and one ecstatic little boy.

Will try to get on here tomorrow but can't promise.

Fuddle: Nurse those tonsils and don't do too much too soon.

    AOT: Families!!!

    Stiltwalker: Another milestone. Good luck.

Kidcat: Sympathy. To lose the company of a friend is like a little death. It's life-altering.

Teacher's gifts. I used to love the home-made gifts. The children were always so proud of them and I felt the need to overact my thanks to a ridiculous level. The only time I didn't was when a parent who regularly featured in the top 100 'richest people' handed me an obviously rushed and tacky HM bookmark and said, "I know how you prefer the children's own work as gifts." Not from you, ducky, I thought. Diamonds would be quite acceptable from you.

    Hi All

My DS's school sent a note home a few years ago to say that it had been agreed that the teachers would not be able to accept gifts from children or parents. It was done in a very nice way which said that the continuing support from the parents during the year let the teachers know how much they were appreciated and that gifts were not needed. However, if children wanted to make their teacher's card or pictures that they would be gratefully received.

I think that given the situation where people can get competitive over giving big gifts and the financial situation at the minute it was a diplomatic way of handling the whole gift thing.

I am hoping its not too humid today as I am going to try to cajole my four grandsons into tidying up their Mums garden :):) but if too hot then its a quick trip to Whitstable for a walk along the beach and a breath of fresh air instead with an ice cream at the end of it :):)

    Bliddy cat.

Got it in yesterday, then I thought we should let it out to toilet, thinking we Had won it over with dreamies ( thanks, Kidcat, I think, who suggested it), but no, it wouldn't come in and has been out all night again. If we get it in today, it is staying in. We have found the litter tray now, so it should be ok

Itis strange being in the neighbours house as we both live in the right hand side of a pair of once identical semi detached houses. Theoretically our houses should look the same but we have both had extensions. Ours went out to the side, making it a long thin house, theirs went out at the back so it is more box shaped. They fiddled around with internal partitioning more also, so the houses are completely different. Theirs is a lot less cluttered too :o

No rain here for a while, I am off to work. Have a good day all
I wanna be in the room where it happens

No rain here last night. Was quite disappointed really. Yesterday was much cooler and was hoping for much of the same. Oh well..

Had a phone call from my brother this morning. Poor soul sounds shattered.

Yesterday morning SIL was having a tummy ache which was getting worse over the course of the day. Last night when I spoke to her she said it was much more painful and that she was going to have a shower and nip off to bed. During the night the pain got worse so they called the assessment unit and got told take 2 painkillers and go back to bed. Brother had to drive around his area for over an hour to find a pharmacy. Then he got pulled over.

End result is that the hospital now have said she’s got to come in, Even though its been over 14 hours since the pain started. Still, She was told over the phone that at least she isn’t in labour. I have no clue how they know that without seeing her??

So, Just waiting on news now. I’m feeling excited & worried at the same time. Hopefully buba will make an entrance into the world before her due date like B & Sil was told.

While its quite I think I’m going to potter along today. I need to spend sometime emailing Ic*lands today. We brought some coleslaw over the weekend and I ended up with a shard of plastic wedged through my gum. Not a happy bunny.

    Morning toughies

Sorry to hear about the poorlies and those with family probs, big (((hugs))) to you all and look after yourselves, not them! :D

We've had some rain, including a fantastic thunderstorm early Monday morning, got woken by an almighty crack of thunder at 6 am, fair shook the house! Love thunderstorms and the garden was desperate for rain.

First day of the hols today, DH brought me a cuppa in bed, DD went down with him for her breakfast then came back to my bed to watch TV. Had a very lazy morning so far, but need to go into town, various bitty jobs to do, and see mum with her pills. Going to bake this afternoon, not forecast to be too hot, and we've been invited to a friend's tomorrow, and I don't like going empty-handed. During this week I'm also doing a major stock take of all our food, non-perishables, toiletries, clothes and various preps - I aim to be more organised with everything before September.

For our kids' teachers I simply gave them a nice thank you card and a book token to buy something extra for the book corner, that way everyone can share it.

    A xo

Morning everyone, Hot and humid here. We had some fantastic lightening shows late last night.

I think everyone is finally glad the school holidays are here, My youngest finished a few days ago and she has announced she is bored already!!

Did anyone watch kirsty alsopps programme last night on c4? She decorated rooms for free with salvaged furniture. Upcycleing but with a designer touch. The thing is for the last 20 odd years I have been doing this, what I probably didn't want a friend would always use it and vise versa. We did this with kids clothes all the time. I took her some leftover paint, to do 1 wall as a feature wall. Her room looks great!!! We also make curtains longer by adding additional co-ordinating strips of fabric to the bottom.

The banana muffins have nearly all gone, and so has half the tea loaf. This makes me realise I should make cakes more often.

Right must press on, haven't done anything yet.
