Glad to hear it all went well Nutty - hope you're feeling more yourself tomorrow.

Have been to see my poorly boy at the vets, he's looking a lot perkier but is obviously very stressed at being locked in his cage. He was full of purrs though and we got lots of strokes. He's not eaten so they'll look at starting him on fluids later this evening - we took his favourite food, treats and some fresh turkey - so he might eat some now he's had some more pain killers. They did warn that they're considering amputation if the xray confirms their suspicions. In some respects that might be better - they recover quicker and less chance of further issues with weakness/arthritis. Xrays tomorrow but the surgeon says he might not operate until Tuesday depending on the procedure required, there's lots of swelling which they need to take down first.

We left him purring away on a heated blanket with lots of food within easy reach and will pop back tomorrow.

DH is selling a camera for my Dad and Dad phoned today and said we need to keep the money towards Jaspers op, we protested but he won't have it....so there we are - we'll have enough to cover it all - that's a huge relief.

We've tried spelt today. Kind of like a chicken stuffing substitute but also a substitute for potato. The texture was something quite strange but very tasty cooking away with the chicken with a bit onion and thyme.

Does anyone have any other ideas for spelt?

Pooky - talk about in one hand and out with the other :( I would do the same for my girlie though - Madge. Started off as Madgewitch then she calmed down and became Madge!

Crikey - I hope he'll be alright, I know you said amputation might be better but to honest it would still upset me allot and he is your cat so I can't imagine how you are feeling.

Camelot - that is flu - so just fluids and rest and after a few days you should feel better!

Fuddle - look at Spelt bread!

Nutty so glad things went ok, hope you are being plenty of rest and tomorrow off too.

Pooky so glad you have sorted the money for the vet treatment. I ended up using credit cards the last few big bills we had. Thankfully the three new kitties are insured so I won't be hit too bad in future.

Mrslw sounds like your visitors were just what you needed after an awful week.

Usual madness here, OH left for London at 2.30am is due back after 10pm, but is leaving at 3am to go back. So if course everything has gone wrong today, sliced my finger open, my red velvet cake has exploded and I have had to clean the oven.
The dog keeps falling over and I am struggling to lift him up, at 45kg he is rather unwieldy.

Oh Pooky, poor puss! and poor you all that money - but a necessary evil.

Nuttyp so glad you are sorted nd it was nothing awful xx

Kidcat you are just like me - if theres something to break/ cut yourself on or explode its near me. Yesterday I went to the cash machine leaving Oh and Dgs in the car - I then tried to get in the wrong car, wondering where Dgs and his car seat had gone. Luckily it was empty and not alarmed. Hubby was laughing himself silly - it didnt even look remotely like our car. Its not the first time either.

  • FUDDLE you can use spelt instead of rice to make a risotto or rather a speltotto, Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall has recipes using spelt which will probably be on a website if you want a look. I like the taste and texture and it can be used in any recipe that calls for pearl barley, just substitute the barley with some spelt.

POOKY poor kitty, glad to hear he is feeling better and that your kind Dad is helping you with the vets bill, hope he is up and fit very quickly.

NUTTY so pleased you finally have a diagnosis and that it is not a bad one, difficult enough but it sounds as if it is controllable by changing your diet. Hope you feel better tomorrow after a good sleep to get rid of the effects of the sedative.

Glad you're ok Nutty. If you do up the bran, don't forget to increase your water intake too (bran absorbs a lot and if you're short of water the bran will back you up rather than clear you out).

Pooky, happy to see you have the money and that the poor fella is doing ok there.

Fuddle, not a clue what to do with spelt. I still have some quinoa to use up. Got it reduced, tried 3 recipes so far and frankly not keen.

Kidcat, I hope some of the red velvet cake was salvaged (if you did manage to bleed on it, at least it wouldn't show :o )

T'is Australia day today. I've also incidentally been Australian for a year today and am off to see a friend get their nationality too. As always, it's a stinking hot day which seems thematic.

We're having a picnic after and I managed to put together most of it using things I had in, which is helping to use up some of the stores. Meals could be getting somewhat interesting later as the stocks decline!

Nutty so pleased it is nothing too serious. Lots of fresh fruit and vegetables will help too.

    Get well soon Camelot.

Poor cat Pooky hope he will be OK. So good of your dad to help. OS can certainly help when needed.

Brilliant Possession that's just what we have been talking about the last few days. DS has decided he does not want to lose the dresser. He's suddenly realised it is worth a lot of money and it is a very useful bit of furniture he does not have to have ornamental plates and teapots in the glass cases. He wants to keep our sofas but as we are falling over them now I don't think they will fit in a smaller house more modern house. They're huge two people can sleep on each one. This has an enormous back room and a tiny front room you can't even get a decent sized easy chair in.

Lyn so glad you had a good weekend with Zebra. I am dying to have a cuddle with my DGS. This morning I received an email from DD to say they are going to pay for me to visit them in Malta in July. They have a flat in Malta they use for holidays. They will be retiring there next year. Not fully retiring just retiring from the British Council. There are plenty of English collages in Malta. Then I will be able to visit when ever I can save enough money. I'm getting excited already a whole week of cuddles. and going to the beach with him.

How about looking for tiles or vinyl flooring in end of lines or offcuts. We did similar to you a few years ago. We had a new bathroom and en suite. A few weeks later we had a new kitchen. We went round the DIY stores and found some vinyl tiles for the kitchen the end of a line for a quarter of the price. If we had bought them at full price we would not have been able to afford them. We got an off-cut for the en suite which cost us £1 and some tiles that looked like York stone but were some sort of composite. They were warmer than stone and a lot easier to wash but they looked just like York stone. I think they cost us £5. My ex broke two cutting them so we decided to pay someone to do it for us. If we had bought York stone it would have cost us about £500 and we would have paid for a professional not just someone my ex worked with who was good at tiling.

Ginny I did that once the car was a completely different size and shape. Even the colour was wrong. It was the same make and colour as our previous one. You should have seen the drivers face. :rotfl:
