Hi everyone, thankyou so much for all the kind messages. We are all on a high about the new job. He had thought about leaving and going to do a less stressful one anyway. It was nothing to do over 100, yes 100 different parcel deliveries a day all at different addresses. He said he had to rush all day. The new job will be a maximum of 50 and you are told to take your time and keep to all the rules of the road etc, and have your breaks.

I too may have helped someone else unemployed, I know our other shop has vacancy coming up. I mentioned it to one of our customers and he applied. He has previous experience, so fingers crossed for him.

I hope everyone is ok, we probably wont be celebrating tonight. That would mean I have to stay awake!!

The hotel I have booked for Monday night is at Thurrock, if anyone wants it PM please.

    take care x

Evening all - hope you all have a lovely evening whatever you are doing - whether celebrating or having a well deserved early night.

We are up at my parents, they are currently making nice dinner and we are drinking fizz - got DS layed out on the floor with his bottle of milk, he's already been up to bed once but we heard banging so I went up to check to be greeted by some sort of demented spotty pixie scrunched up sat back on his heels behind the bedroom door with his tongue stuck out and his eyes screwed up who started climbing around the door as I opened it!! Only our son! He's starting to wilt (fingers crossed) so hopefully he'll be back in bed soon.

Thank you all of you for being you and being there - all your tales of joy, woe and general ordinariness, together with the support that we offer each other makes my life a brighter one. Take care and much love to all of you in the new year - Helen X

Just popped in to wish you all a happy and peacefully New Year.

Hope you're having fun, what ever you're upto.

We've just had some nibbly bits and a couple of board games and are now all snuggled up in pjs watching tv. DD1 is in London staying with a friend who has his halls of residence right in the centre. I'm looking forward to another big cup of tea and an early night :)

Just to say thanks to all who contribute to this thread and the forums in general. It gave me the confidence to take early retirement this year and simplify my life and finances in general.
Kidcat, god only knows how you manage your day to day life, I am in awe of you but also concerned that without support you may burn out. Mrs Lurcherwalker, such wisdom in every post. Fuddle, how far have you and your little family come, Godspeed to you, you represent everything this thread is about. There are so many others, Nuttyp, how well did your husband do when faced with adversity? Happy New Year to all who visit this thread however they are celebrating, or not, lol, Thank you all.

Quiet night for us - DH made a carpet picnic for us & I've had a couple of glasses of Sangria & I think that will be my lot.

Just to wish all of you and your families & loved ones a very peaceful, happy & healthy New Year & I'll see you next year!!
Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle
  • Such lovely words expressed here. Also popped by to wish everyone a Happy and Peaceful New Year full of warmth, kindness, love and friendship - just like this thread.

DH and I are too tired to drink the champers so we are saving it for tomorrow and promised the boys a very small bucks fizz with dinner. We have had our nibbles for supper, actually DS10 is still nibbling, growing lad and all. We are going to try and see the New Year in but will go to bed earlier if needs be. I have been sewing again, 3 pairs of trousers/jeans done and made another pile to start on tomorrow. A pair of DH's missing work trousers have emerged from the sewing mountain - and yes they need a repair too.
  • Well I managed it no WHIPS for the new year. I now have two new cardigans and two short sleeve tops.

A Happy New Year to you all. DS went to bed about 8pm. I don't think I shall be so long.

I am so happy for you Nutty. My DS1 does the same job as your DH and I know that in December he was doing about 100 parcels a day he is looking forward to being paid next week! May 2015 be a better year for you.

Stilty: good luck with the spotty one. Surely this must be the end of it. Lets hope that he has had more than his dose now and will be spared shingles at any any time in the future. Enjoy your break.

We had a quite wonderful day yesterday visiting DS2 and family. The hilight was watching Mia, who is obsessed with Frozen, dancing and singing 'Let it go', flinging her arms out wide at every 'Let it go'. She had quite a lot of musical instruments (the plastic sort) for Christmas and we took her down a xylophone so we had a family orchestra. It was hilarious - ancient grandparent (me) mad vicar, two exhausted parents, one autistic 13 year-old and a 2 (going on 14) year-old. all banging, shaking and singing untunefully. Thankfully their neighbours are away. Then, because it was a beautiful sunny afternoon we went down the road to the beach. A blissful day.

Back to reality and the prospect of the Manse Open Day on Saturday. The house is beginning to look unnaturally clean and tidy and I have to spend all day tomorrow cooking - mincepies, sausage rolls, mini quiches, cheese scones and brownies. I love it really!

My prayer for all of us is that 2015 will be better than 2014 and that whatever comes our way we will cope with it together.

    Bless you all.
