Thank you kittie - I must admit I was surprised that the almond milk disagreed with me, as I had a lovely drink made with fresh almonds when we were in Italy a few years ago, so perhaps you're right and it's the other ingredients.

I have digestive problems which began more recently though, and it's been investigated, I have a lot of diverticula, but I think in my case the problem's mostly due to gas getting trapped so I'm still working out which foods are ok for me and which aren't so good. I don't have any problems with tomatoes.

Peppermint tea (or peppermint & nettle) helps, as does fennel tea. I remember when we lived in Germany you could buy a fennel drink for babies, in the form of soluble granules, to help with colic.

Aww Mar, so sorry to hear that :( I hope you'll be starting to feel better by the morning.

monnagran Well done with the cards, I haven't written any yet, though I did manage to write a long and newsy letter to my cousin yeaterday, which i'd meant to do for ages. I am sure we're all familiar with the "I must write to/email so-and-so Syndrome"!

gawd mar, you sound dreadful. I hope you are resting and opening some of your shtf food. You could do with a couple of days doing nothing

gripe water used to be made with fennel. It is very much an os herb for lots of digestive problems but peppermint needs to be avoided if you ever get rising acid because it (like chocolate) relaxes the sphincter holding everything down. I have always sprinkled a few fennel seeds in with cabbage, while cooking it. Parsley is a very good herb for the stomach, you can get parsley capsules

If it is gas down there then food is possibly not being digested properly higher up. It starts with chewing food properly as that starts the digestive processes. Ivyleaf have you tested yourself by cutting out all brassica greens for a bit and then introducing them back again one at a time, cabbage, caulie, kale. If I need fibre then I take pysillium capsules with lots of water because fibre and liquids help everything flow smoothly. Fingers crossed though as I haven`t had to take them for months. I hope you get to the root of it soon

I am feeling good again today, everything I ate has been kind to my stomach and I have added a few more things to my list. I made soup again for this evening and tomorrow but this time leek and potato and I put a few sticks of celery in and marigold stock. I whizzed really well and it was lovely. I must admit that I am feeling apprehensive about testing tomato, cows cheese, peppers and chocolate as I have my suspicions. I am not worried about calcium from milk products as there is plenty in almonds and kale

I really don`t like tough curly kale that I am growing so I get it over with and juice it with some carrot, then I don`t breathe and drink it as fast as I can

Fennel does wonders for gas, as does tumeric.

Never made almond milk before so will definitely try that, thanks Kittie.

Ouch mar that sounds very painful
Had a peaceful evening, did food shopping and things. Exhausted now though, painkillers have been well and truly taken.
Spent £41.67 but £10 went straight on cat food, but we have 24 tins so fine for s couple of weeks.

Honestly think this aiding of fundraiser isn't going to happen, no way can I sit for for four hours in this state. Instead will just show my face, to be fair though I have been assisting with the stalls so not entirely lazy at least

Hm I think oh has fell asleep in the bath, poor thing is exhausted. Better go check on him

Tumeric is something that I am reading up on at the moment as it appears to do wonders for the human body - anti inflammatory, reduces antioxidants, linked to reducing brain disease because it boosts brain function and is thought to lower the risk of heart disease - to name a few!

I am going to overhaul my diet/suppliments come the new year and I suspect I will be investing in that little treasure ;)

Interesting about the peppermint avoiding kittie I was always told to drink peppermint tea if I felt my digestion was a bit off  I will look into that, thank you.

My weekend on starts pretty soon and I have been awake since 2am  got a 20 min and a 25 min break in the car in order to eat and that is it as working solidly till 10pm. Tomorrow is better though, got 6 hours off with the family if no one calls in sick.

Take care over the weekend. Catch up next week :)

I used Hipp with my two. It came in a tea bag, mixed it with boiled water and gave it cooled.

peppermint affects the stomach sphincter but it disperses gas in the gut. There are capsules that go through the stomach before breaking up, one such is called colpermin, which does help gut gas without the stomach acid rising

As I think I may have mentioned previously, about half of my cookery is made up of substitutes. It seems to work just fine.

Over half my cooking is just made up!

It may well have been, Floss, i can't really remember, though it was certainly the same brand as one of the baby milks so i expect you're right.. I used it a lot for my babies when were lived over there :) I remember it was quite cheap.

Just discovered one of the cons of living in a crowded suburban town. I opened the back door to take some deep breaths of fresh wintry air and got deep breaths of someone else's breakfast cooking :(

To add insult to injury, it wasn't even bacon :p

ETA Kez just seen your post, I hope you're feeling better today but try to take it at least a little bit easy! easier said than done, I know.

kittie I've been prescribed the peppermint oil capsules. Colpermin is fine, but the last couple of times I've ended up with a different one, presumably cheaper, and that does give me heartburn as I have hiatus hernia, so I only take it when desperate. Something about the coating must be different.

My boys are almost 29/27 so a little older than yours, I don't remember Hipp as a brand, it was all Heinz, Milupa, Cow & Gate or SMA in them days! I seem to remember there was a small pack in the Bounty boxes, with a packet of Milupa baby rice & their orange breakfast cereal which my eldest adored!
