Sheila hope the op went OK, wonderful you will soon be pain free.
Mrsdwhite If a job won't let you get a bath or eat it is not worth having. Don't let them talk you both back into it. I think your manager is putting pressure on you just not so obvious he is being more subtle about it but is pressure all the same.
All this cutting dairy, those of you who are over 35 be very careful about adding lots of other sources of calcium. Almonds are very high in calcium so the almond milk will be good. Sardines and tinned salmon are good but you must eat the bones. Eggs have calcium too and the vitamin D.
Osteoporosis can be very painful and you always worry about falling. I have it and I always wake feeling my pelvis is broken. It is exactly the same pain as a broken bone. It does ease a bit but it takes strong pain killers to eliminate the pain.
Mar that sounds like me I tend to put weight on if I go on a weight loss diet.
Another thing, I know it is not the season for rhubarb but you all have freezers. Do not have rhubarb with a source of calcium because it prevents you from absorbing calcium.
When I was diagnosed I told DD as my mum had it too. I suggested she had a yogurt every day, what did she go out and buy, rhubarb yogurt.
Kez just not drinking enough can cause confusion. A good way to make sure is to always make your dad a cup of tea when you arrive and before you leave every time and get everyone else who visits to do the same. The care system is not conducive to keeping people hydrated. You could try getting your dad to have a drink every time he calls you and you call him. Just finish every conversation with go make a cup of tea. Sorry I am adding to your burden it is hard work looking after someone especially if they are not living with you. So take care of yourself.
kidkat glad you sorted that school out but it just never seems to last. Your son has a right to an education.
Hugs to everyone because I am finding it difficult to keep up with everyone. Those supporting need hugs too.0 -
Depends what was in your toastie. I make sourdough bread and that is fine, shop bought bread is not fine, if shop bought sourdough then they only add a little blob of the starter to their yeast. Mine has no extra yeast but quite a lot of starter. Cheese in your your toastie? Tomato?
Thanks - yes, it was cheese. And i had cheese the previous day tooI would like it to be too much cheese as i was enjoying the sourdough.
I make my own - the starter was given to me by a friend and I feed it a couple of times a week. I use 1 cup starter, 1 cup water 1lb flour tsp honey and tsp salt to make mine. I use the "no knead" method and it works really well.
I thought i was pushing it to have it two days in a row. Have eaten my 500 cals today and it has been fine so hopefully back to normal tomorrow. I will have a couple of days off the sourdough.
Mrs Dwhite - glad things are getting sorted. hopefully you can have time to take stock before making drastic decisions.I wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
i was enjoying the sourdough.
.
me too I love my sourdough so was very apprehensive when I tested mine. Just one slice with a tiny scrape of butter. It was good so that has eliminated sourdough. Cheese can be a trigger but goats cheese is good, cows cheese is bad. Tomorrow I am testing lamb so have all fingers crossed but it will be at 12 as I daren`t test any food later in the day. I am mad because chocolate is a definite trigger for me, I ate just 2 squares of dark chocolate and it took 2 days to recover. Arghh
Today risotto was on the menu, butternut risotto so I was pretty happy, I just asked for the parmesan to be left out. Fantastic result and was comfy all afternoon. Tomorrow when I do the lamb I will also do swede, squash and lettuce. Odd combo but the roots and lettuce are good so isolating the lamb.
Oh yet another thing, I am making sure that I don`t squash my stomach by bending over after meals or by leaning over my computer
I took a tsp of apple cider vinegar last night and it must have been soothing because again I slept the hole night. Grhh the changes that come with getting older are so annoying. I used to be able to eat anything
Me too re milk, I only have a drop in my one mug of tea and I make almond milk or hemp seed milk. Upside is that my figure is changing for the better and somehow I am not craving any foods now0 -
Oh kittie, so sorry to hear about the chocolate
I tried almond milk last year and was quickly doubled up with wind and cramps! I was so disappointed. For some reason my digestive system doesn't seem to like it.
GP's appointment this morning to see how my blood pressure's getting on as I have an op next friday. I'm having a lot of pain and tension in my neck recently, mostly at the back, and my shoulders get tense and then I end up with a sort of tension headache and feel a bit off-kilter. I don't expect it's connected with blood pressure though, probably arthritis (or "old age creeping on" as my mum used to say)
Hope everyone has as good a day as possible, and (((HUGS))) to anyone in need of some.0 -
Morning all
Sheila I hope that your operation went well and here's to a speedy recovery xxx
I hope that you have baubles and not kittens on your tree Pooky
I hope that things continue to improve with school kidcat
mrsdwhite Fingers crossed that the promised help happens and that you and your DH are feeling calmer xxxx
So far this morning I have endured what seemed like 3 million questions from DH with regards to my Christmas wish list, all before I got a cup of tea as well. He is in town getting new tyres on the car so is taking advantage of the free parking to get some shopping done. I'm at the "please don't spend money on me as I'm worried about money" stage. There really isn't a huge amount for me to worry about, but I find it hard having things brought for me.
Then a delivery driver dumped three large boxes in front of one of our neighbour's front door and drove off. DH checked it wasn't the boxes I'm expecting and then had to leave. So I went over and carried the boxes into the house for them as they aren't well enough to lug them about. Thankfully I'm stronger than I look.
I'm waiting for 4 days of posh diet food to turn up.....don't worry. I'm not hanging up my pinny, it's part of a prize I won, 10 days of Balance Box food. There is no way I would pay £20 a day  It's a pity I'm off to my works Christmas do tonight isn't it lol. I'm in work this afternoon, so have to take my glad rags with me and get changed there.
While I'm waiting I think I'm going to go and bake some cookies
Take care everyone xxx0 -
morning all!
didn't get speak sleep last night, blumming drunken neighbours arghhhh
I wouldn't normally mind but it went till 5:30am and we had to be up at 6:30
But the christmas shopping is slowly coming together, another parcel delivered :T One more to go for today so i'm taking full advantage of staying in the house till the school run.
sdg enjoy tonight!
sheila hope the op went well
Thanks maggie, thats one thing i can definitely say is that he a heck of a lot of tea. Hes always the a pot on the go. Sounds silly but makes me smile whenever i see a cuppa in his hand and says "ow, thats hot" lol so at least i know he hasn't had it for hours :rotfl:0 -

maybe it is the almond milk ingredients because shop bought contains several other things in it
http://www.alpro.com/uk/products/drinks/almond/original
I make mine with almonds which I have soaked about 12 hours and this makes them very digestible. I also freeze soaked almonds add use them when I want add some almonds to eg frozen berries for a snack
http://www.livestrong.com/article/509747-why-do-people-soak-almonds-in-water/
I add water to the soaked almonds and maybe some vanilla then I whizz fast and strain through a nut milk bag. Hemp seed milk is similar but hulled hemp does not need soaking or straining
re tension head: I had one yesterday morning and almost all day the day before, made me feel lethargic. I am sensitive to charge building up in the air, positive ions have increased. I make sure my ioniser is on and that helps a lot0 -
Hello all!
Starting to get into the Christmas spirit here. I forgot how wonderful it was to have leftover bits from making Christmas stuff, made into other nice things! Yesterday we enjoyed fruit mincemeat on some belgian waffles I'd found reduced and frozen a while back, today we had a bit more mincemeat in puff pastry. And this was just a bit left over in the fridge that didn't get jarred.
T'is also the season for better reductions in the supermarkets here. Got a nice butterflied lamb shoulder a few days ago, reduced to less than $5. We've had it in sandwiches, with salad, in wraps done greek style and there's a large container of it done with veg and a bit of gravy to go into pasties tomorrow. There's also a pack of lamb pieces in the freezer (reduced to less than $3) ready for a dopiaza. I also got sent a voucher for a couple of marinated salmon fillets to try, so we've really been living it up.
In other amusement, one of our supermarkets does points a bit like tesco, that you can redeem for shopping vouchers. So I've done that, just in time to get not only these reductions, but their "spend x for 3 weeks and get a voucher for Y" and I'm combining this with their "spend x and get 1000 points" receipt offers. The upshot is, though I'm having to spend a bit more this month than normal, I'm getting everything at about 30% off. So I'm stocking up on staples. It looks like January will be a very cheap month. I may even get savings put away for next Christmas :rotfl:Softstuff- Officially better than 0070 -
Hi.
Have been reading about all your trials with diet and the discomforts when you eat something that disagrees with you. It makes me feel very guilty because I can (and do) eat absolutely everything with with no ill effects. This may, of course contribute to my 4x1/2 extra stones that I carry about with me. Also, when I hear about the way some of you are suffering I don't know what to say. If I sneeze more than twice (a rare occurance) I think I am D.Y.I.N.G. How some of you cope with feeling ill all the time I do not know. My admiration for you all knows no bounds because you don't seem to let it stop you from doing the most amazing things. Members of 'The Doorstep' I salute you.
Life here is as chaotic as usual. I have written and posted my cards. I think I have got all prezzies covered (but will probably be proved wrong.) My mincemeat has been made and is steeping in the kitchen and making the whole house smell gorgeous. My turkey crown and gammon joint have been purchased from the market and are stowed away in the freezer.
My tasks for today are washing, ironing, sorting out the floor of the spare room wardrobe where I have been throwing everything I didn't know what to do with since we moved, clean the spare room, bathroom, my bedroom and the landing, wrap at least 2 parcels for posting, (bit of a problem, one of the things I didn't move with me was my stash of cardboard boxes), make dinner and listen to a meditation tape for 30 minutes.
So what am I doing on here?
You may well ask.
