kidcat - I really don't know you cope with that school. I can't see what positive results could come from their action re the tree. Are you still planning to homeschool DS from Year 7? If so, would you consider bringing it forward? Or is that the craziest idea ever? I don't think I would have it in me to be a Governor in your school with how they behave. Hope DD feels better soon.
Thanks VJs mum - my weight is the highest it has ever been (other than pregnancy) and I eat too much dairy, fat, sugar and wheat so not good. I also know stress can bring it on. I have been thinking/half heartedly trying to eat better and loose weight for ages so need to take action.
Ivyleaf - thanks for your concern and no I haven't been to my GP - he is useless with advice, only ever writes prescriptions or makes a referral. I know I should go but I want to try and improve my diet first then if no joy I will go (promise!)
I am in the middle of several things so decided to just stop for 10 mins - better get back to them.0 -
Mrsdwhite I have found locally a website that advertises all of the housing associations including the council one. It also includes some private lettings.
The private landlords will not be expecting people with lots of money or people not on housing benefit. I have only looked at two bedroom houses and there are lots to let immediately. I know it will be more difficult in your area but it is worth looking if there is one. I connected to this one from the council waiting list. There was a link. I's worth a look.
We have both been having a look and I am wondering if there is no waiting list in this area. There is a lot of property to let that you do not need to be on the housing list for. We have decided to start looking seriously in January. We are fed up with this landlord and the fact that the house is not insulated. An equivalent housing association house will cost us on average about £100 a month less.
It looks like all these problems are making us sort ourselves out better. We do not really want the hassle of moving yet again but it looks like it will be well worth it.0 -
SQ I don't mean to frighten you but my only symptoms were wind and indigestion and occasionally feeling sick. I knew I was not well but my symptoms seemed to vague to go to the doctor. I almost died because my tumour burst and I was bleeding to death. I was very lucky. They operated straight away and I now have a drug that stops it growing.
It may be nothing much or just due to the amount of stress you have had lately. The Dr will refer you for investigations that's his job. He cannot be expected to know everything about every disease there is.0 -
"And the BIG MAN himself is staying on to lunch"
.......God comes to you for lunch Monnagran ?
Every Sunday, Mar. And possibly he is among all the hangers on who inhabit this place from time to time. Who knows?:D

I have honestly never felt better - i should give up dairy too as it plays havoc wit my sinuses. I have given up capuccinos, use soy milk in my tea and almond milk on my morning oats (ooh err) but love cheese. fat is ok - it is supposed to sooth your system. Sorry, I am a bit evangelical about all of this.

I did wonder whether to say something along these lines also - a friends relative was diagnosed with oesophageal cancer presenting symptoms of severe indigestion so it is worth getting it checked.I wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
That dog is a very good boy, we left him for close to two hours this afternoon to meet a friend for coffee, we haven't dared do this for quite some time now, and when we got back he was asleep in his armchair, no damage and came to meet us at the front door waggly and very pleased to see us but not in the least distressed or stressed, it's a wonderful thing to know he's OK on his own and means that if we have to be anywhere that we can't take him, we can!!!0

Fruit Mincemeat
3 large grated apples (I leave the skin on and don't mind what kind)
225g shredded suet
800g mixed fruit
200g chopped mixed peel
350g soft brown sugar (I use raw sugar over here, but not sure if that's even available in England)
zest and juice 2 small oranges or 1 large one
zest and juice 2 lemons (or in my case, 1 fresh lemon zested and juiced, 1 squirt from the bottle in the fridge)
50g slivered almonds
4 tsp mixed spice
1/2 tsp cinnamon
2 tsp nutmeg
6 tablespoons whisky
combine all apart from whisky and leave 12 hours.
preheat oven to 120 degrees, cover with foil and cook for 3 hours
stir as it cools and stir in whisky.
pack in sterilised jars.
Funny you should mention it now, mine is in the oven as we speak!
Thank you so much, will be making some more soon. We have a bake off every year at work so I made mince pies with the last jar and everyone really liked them!
MrsL, great news that Docky is back to his old self and you can have some freedom.0 -
There you go SQ, I'm not the only one who feels you should see your GP! If there is anything wrong, the sooner it's treated the sooner you will feel much better. And if not, your mind will be at rest
Please don't put it off. x
Fuddle What a lovely post to mrsdwhite :A
Thank you nursemaggie, I found a good funeral director today (not the one I had the appointment with, just one I popped into on spec on my way home!) and the plans they do are similar price to the ones you get through AgeUKI'll have to pay it over 5 years or it's too expensive, but at least it's underway and I feel so relieved to have finally got around to it! I brought their booklet home and OH is reading through it as I type. He needs a plan as well, but has some pricey dental treatment to finish paying for first
Mrs LW Glad to hear Doc is doing spendidly :j
kidcat I could scream on your behalf, that wretched school  (I originally used a less polite adjective than that, but didn't want to offend anyone who posts!)
monnagran: Don't panic!0 -
softstuff - Ah, so the mincemeat is in bell jars!
Sorry, couldn't resist. Hope your head's better and the fuzziness gone by the time you read this.
Hehe, technically, yes. I was going to wish you good luck with the funeral directors (there's a phrase you can't say often), but glad you had it in any case.
NurseMaggie, some contractors treat your home as though it's the local tip, some treat it like it's fragile glass. If we find one that does the latter (whilst doing a good job), even if they cost a bit more we stick with them. It pays in the end when you don't lose furniture.
Kidcat, sorry to hear things have gone from bad to worse with your DS's school, I hope you manage to resolve them.
SavingQueen, I do 5:2, like VJsmum. I had a bit of weight to lose, but I also have a pretty bad stomach (duodenal bile reflux and bog standard reflux = atrocious indigestion!). I lost about 12kg and my stomach improved to the extent I was able to ditch one of my medications, can now eat what I like and can drink alcohol again which was very much forbidden for me previously (yay!). Worth taking a look at, it just gives your stomach time each week to heal. I find that other than doing 5:2, I don't have to alter my diet in any way (last night was pizza), so it's easy. But yes, get yourself looked over first. Untreated reflux is a huge cause of oesophageal cancer, so you need a check up.
Feeling rough today, it's that time of the month which is apparently supposed to be much rougher the first time after the op. I'd say that's an understatement :rotfl:Softstuff- Officially better than 0070 -
Thanks everyone. The indigestion is a very rare occurrence (months apart) but I will think about going to GP. My friend who has gallstones reckons I have the same. Actually I am far more worried about DH who has had indigestion very regularly for years, although it has got a bit better as he has cut down on the worst offending food and alcohol. He did eventually go to the GP some time back who referred him and he was told basically he was (and still is) too fat and that was all that was wrong! I am already trying to improve our diet but not trying hard enough so will do that as well. Thanks again.
Bit of a night, DH couldn't sleep, one of the cats woke DS10 at 4am and he had trouble getting back to sleep and DS8 had a nightmare and came into our bed for a bit. Too much to do but I am pacing myself. Off to town next for some planned shopping but will also browse a bit as I need to keep calm. Having said that not sure how busy the shops will be, fingers crossed, Wednesday is generally a quietish day.0
