softstuff - Ah, so the mincemeat is in bell jars!
Sorry, couldn't resist. Hope your head's better and the fuzziness gone by the time you read this.
Fuddle I agree with what others have said, you have done nothing but help your Mum, and your sis can't have it both ways x
Mrs LW how is Docky doing on his tablets?
mrsdwhite Huge (((HUGS))) to you and DH. Things have a way of working out in the end, you'll see.
nursemaggie Oh dear, sounds as if you could have done with a load of dust sheets when the builders were here! I hope they've done a good job at any rate.
Burtha May your DD have a speedy recovery and good results from the tests x
savingqueen - Have you seen your GP about your indigestion attacks? Apologies if it's all already been looked into, I just know how easy it is when the rest of the family need things done for mum to put herself last
I have an appointment later to see a local funeral director to get a quote for a pre-payment funeral plan for myself. I've already had one quote, and I like the firm and they've been recommended, but it's horrendously expensive even if I pay over five years. Hoping the one I'm seeing today will be a bit cheaper.
I have thought of putting the money into an ISA instead, but I think I'd be too tempted to use it for something else.0 -
Morning IVYLEAF, Docky is doing splendidly on the tablets thank you, he's back to his normal enthusiastic self, eager for food, walks, playtime, runs with his doggy friends and sleeping right through the night with no fuss or disturbance. It's virtually a complete turn around on where he was a few weeks ago. I'm so very happy with him and for him as he must have been so frightened and confused before we took him to the vet. He's our boy again, and we're all having fun! Lyn xxx.0

Ivyleaf I watched them put down dust sheets then went to do some surveys and did not look again. Judging by where all the plaster is they must have removed them to do the job. I did not go back until they had done all the work.
I now have nice new kitchen taps which DS has now moved because they were tangled up in the draining rack, a repaired ceiling and no more drips. It only took them 8 months to get it done. I am now wondering how long an emergency would take.
I never had anything but emergencies at the last house. One leak in the kitchen ended up with a new kitchen, the units got so wet they had to be replaced.
If anyone is think of using British gas to insure appliances and plumbing etc don't. If they had fixed the leak the day it started we would not have spent 6 months having our less than 2 year old kitchen replace.
They faffed about with stupid electronic equipment to tell them where the leak was. I had to wait 3 weeks for the machine to be free. Then guess what they then spent another three weeks digging up the kitchen floor taking up floorboards in the breakfast room, taking up floorboards in the little bedroom, breaking the curtain rail in the process.
You older ones dos this remind you of something? Flanders and Swan "Twas on a Monday morning the gas man came to call"
Does anyone think I am jinxed, or is this normal these days? Actually I think these builders did a slapdash job and it may cost them a lot of money if my sofas are ruined. I paid a lot with the intention of them lasting for the rest of my life.
The prepaid funeral plan is worth having what ever way you do it. If you do not have enough in your estate the law now makes your relatives pay. My mum had a prepaid one it was so simple I just went to the local firm and the insurance covered everything including some flowers from the immediate family. We did not have flowers other than the one arrangement we had donations to the RNIB as mum was blind.
Have you had a quote from Age UK? I think my mum had Age Concern which is now Age UK.
I am feeling much better today not totally overwhelmed by everything going wrong. I just have to be patient now. Everything is in hand. If things go wrong again we have agreed we go to CAB. I have not had good experiences with them in the past. I have dealt with them twice and each time their advice was wrong.0 -
My goodness! I've only been AWOL for a few days and everyone's world seems to have imploded. I so wish that I could help all of you. Fuddle: Just think, I could have been one of those bossy retired teachers. I promise you that if anyone can help your Mam those three will.
Kidcat: Thanks for the information on PDA. I now think that it is what my DS1 has suffered from all his life. And there was I thinking for the last 45 years that he was just a stroppy blighter. I remember that when he was a child, if you said to him, "Don't touch that, it's hot and will burn you." his hand would be creeping towards it before you had finished speaking.
mrsdwhite: Oh you poor dear. It's probably the best thing that could have happened that your DH has been signed off work. It has was inevitable that something would have to give pretty soon. None of you could have gone on much longer the ways things were. Not the best time of year for it to happen but at least you will all be together for Christmas, even if you don't know where. I don't know if you can feel it but you are being surrounded by a huge blanket of love and care from the wonderful folk on here.
Well, I thought I was doing well with my preparations but I have just been told that not only does the Rev have a meeting here here next Tuesday, involving coffee and mince pies etc. but they are all coming here so that they can have a look round the Manse. (where are the horror struck smilies?) And the BIG MAN himself is staying on to lunch. And the next day my DB and SiL arrive for a few days. I still have some cards and letters to write and I've not wrapped a single present - everything is spread all over the place. Sooooo! Cue a few days of frantic finishing off preps, cleaning and tidying the entire house, shopping, cooking and fitting all the other planned activities in. None of these things appeal to my lazy nature but needs must.
All of you, be kind to yourselves, treat yourselves gently and remember that everything passes.

savingqueen wrote: »Hello everyone
Ended up with a blooming indigestion attack yesterday after all but luckily not half as bad as normal. DH volunteered to make dinner - a massive omelette packed with lots of cheese and frankfurters (and veg) with beans and chips. No way could I risk it so I had some soup very late in the evening.
Hi SQ - I was having terrible indigestion attacks last christmas and new year which continued into the New Year. Also my weight was creeping on and i just couldn't shift it. Around spring time, after much reading I decided it was likely to be caused by a combination of sugar, wheat and yeast and have cut them out by around 80 - 90%. I also do the 5:2 but I know that is too drastic for some. The result has been no indigestion since April (apart from the other day, which i think was caused by a hefty portion of mashed potato); no constipation / IBS and an 18lb weight loss. I love my new diet and it is definitely forever. if you really can't give up bread try sourdough.
Town was mad today - queues going back down the aisle in Home Bargains. I have barely done any christmas shopping yet. I have bought MiL a Tower of London poppy and DD some stuff on Amazon and that''s it. I'd better pull my finger out.I wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
Apparently its is very under diagnosed - there is one in my local authority who has a diagnosis!!
I have DD8 off school poorly today, and DS10 is off because yesterday they decided to punish him for last weeks goings on, in short they decided last week to remove him from the main class for teaching while they got him back under control, then when the whole year group decorated the school tree ( a treat reserved for the final school year) they wouldnt allow him to join in - because he isnt working in the main class!
He was distraught he has missed the only chance he will ever have to do this, I have been in and complained. I pointed out he has no incentive to behave if he is punished continually for old crimes. I also pointed out his behaviour currently stems from their issues with staffing and the constant changes they make without preparation.
There are many background issues going on, TAs fighting to be the golden child, teachers trying to assert authority etc and he is now caught in the crossfire. SO today I said enough is enough, get your act together and I will consider returning him, until then he wont be back.
Am angry, upset and tired, he was up all night worrying and so was I. I feel like I am sinking and drowning. The irony is in about one hour I will officially be declared a governor again - my first act may well be to resign,0 -
"And the BIG MAN himself is staying on to lunch"
.......God comes to you for lunch Monnagran ?0 -
mrsdwhite there's a plan of action slowly coming into play and with that comes peace of mind that you're more in control of the issues than you probably give yourself credit for. I am not sure if you know but my family went through bankruptcy and house repossession over 5 years ago.
When faced with losing our home we applied for local authority housing. Our grading was C (A being important) with the classification of 'affordability problem'. Classifications may have changed, and probably have, but just wanted to help with the rental idea. As far and credit searches go I am sure letting agents can only get information back on whether there are bankruptcies or CCJ's. Anything else isn't public information (am I right?). The letting agent route can be an option for you but it is an expensive option. I found us a private letting on Gumtree because my mam and sister (even though they could financially - even jointly to split the responsibility) wouldn't agree to be guarantor for us so that meant we couldn't use agents. The LL via Gumtree wasn't the best, the house had it's issues but it was a home and a home for 3 years during a really difficult time.
I'm hoping that if you can see how far we have come from where we found ourselves that you can see that there is hope for you and your family too. As long as you're proactive, aware and deal with things you will get through this and be all the stronger for it. What we went through has been the making of me/us. I look back at what happened and feel nothing but relief that it did. It taught me an awful lot about what is important. Your family will grow from strength to strength. I can see it, look forward to conversations in a couple of years time with you being in a place where you can see it too. Until then I know how difficult things are for your family right now and it looks like you, like me, are the one with the strength to keep everything together. Stay with us mrsdwhite... I couldn't have done it with out this lotx
monna I wouldn't mess with you :rotfl:0
