PC Tip - If you have an important document to write give it a name & save it first. Then if anything goes 'wonky' your PC knows where to save it to. Otherwise if there's a problem it usually means the document is lost

Mam turned up to work yesterday drunk and smelling of faeces. She was send home and is on gardening leave. I think she is about to lose her job. My sister is at the end of her tether. I didn't know how the heck to help other than suggest social services. Mam heard, flipped and has cut me off shouting at my sister to hang up because they don't need me. All just, ergh. I feel a bit numb. Not sure what to feel.

The worry is mam will lose her job and go on one continuous bender and lose her life and the other is she'll lose her house if the former doesn't get her first.

Trying to just get on with things really but its always on my mind.

DH is about to serve thai green curry :)

I am on to the back sleeve part of my cardi. Very happy with it so far. I also said I would make a rudolph hat for one of my carer colleagues. She wants it to wear during December. She is lovely, my favourite a good old fashioned carer.

Oh! My foot stool? DH is going to get a pallet from work and knock something up for my to wrap in foam and material. I'll look in Pinterest later for ideas for him. It won't be this week though :( I suppose I have enough projects :rotfl:

Fuddle there is nothing more you can do. There was nothing you could do to solve the problem when you were on the scene, so how can you now when you're some 300-odd miles away? You suggested social services. Your sister is an adult capable of contacting them for advice and help.
It is hard, I know, when there is a blood tie and a history, but your work with your mother's problem is over. Your life is in Dorset, and your OH and girls come first. What will be will be, and you have no reason to feel guilty about anything.
One life - your life - live it!
  • FUDDLE your mum has made choices in free will that have led to this point in her life. You are NOT responsible for her actions and not the cause of them either. Sometimes you have to understand and accept that things will happen that you have no control over whatsoever and I'm afraid this is one of them. To change mum has to want to do it herself, no amount of help, advice, pushing, pleading, love or despair will make her change her ways if she doesn't see the problem my pet. You are too far away to be involved in anything on a day to day basis, I'm afraid the responsibility for that will fall on your sister if she will step up and do it. If not then social services will have to become involved and try their best to help but it might not work. If Mum is so set in her drinking habits there is nothing that you or anyone else can do to change that. Don't let it disturb your life because with the best will in the world love, your hands are tied, Lyn xxx.
  • Get well soon softstuff, take all the pampering that comes your way!
So glad you got a good nights sleep Mrs LW, hope Docky improves soon, do you think he will remember that he hasn't been himself?

Well done on the job possession, it may not be many hours just yet but hopefully you will be offered more.

Monna, you have so much patience with your computer - mine would have been well and truly sacked!

Oh dear fuddle, what a mess. Your Mum will need to decide for herself when to stop, I'm sure she didn't mean what she said. Love and hugs to you.

Had an interesting day, I was in the office and my was it busy! Don't know where the time went, the phone goes all day, children have enquiries and then need sticking back together when they fall, and so many parents phone just before home time asking us to take messages telling them where to go after school if they've been held up, etc.

Once home I decided to clear my bedroom. The curtains and rug have gone to the charity shop, along with some clothes that I haven't worn for a year or so. Decluttered some little bits and pieces too. Tomorrow I will take the bed apart and lift the carpet - that can go to the tip. I have a pine sleigh bed that I'm going to paint so I can do that while the room is bare.

It has turned really cold here tonight. We had rain up until about 1pm and then this afternoon was really quite nice, mild too. It would be lovely to have a dry weekend and even better to get washing out. Well, I can dream!
  • Fuddle, your mum has chosen to put herself in this position. It is so hard for you, but you gave your sister the right advice, and it's up to her to take it or not.

My parents had to phone Social Services for my brother. I'm still not sure of all the details but my brother got struck off by our GP for his violent behaviour that night. It was a flipping hard decision to make, but the right one.

You need to put yourself, OH and the girls first. And you need to keep the girls, yourself and OH safe from mum's destructive behaviour.

The foot stool from pallets sound great. I upholstered some dining chairs with some material I cut off some curtains I'd been given but were too short, and padded them with a car boot sale cot bumper, but they looked good.

((mrsdwhite)) Hope you're now off work for the weekend

nuttyp, I'm overweight too - I try not to get much in the way of special Christmassy food in the house as we only then eat it, on top of the food we usually have...

    savingqueen, thank you

DS1 has booked his second CBT for next week, with the plan to save money and take his full motorbike test in the new year, after his 19th birthday. By going back to the place he did his first CBT, they've done him a deal on the CBT so it's cheaper. Did a bit of a panic last night though as he couldn't find the paper part of his license, but when he spoke to them, they said it was fine as the paper parts are being phased out from January anyway. And then after a good shuffle round in his room, he found it, and his theory test pass certificate, behind his chest of drawers... Now safely put in his folder of important papers!

DS2 is being grumpy today... He didn't want to go to bed last night, so fiddled around not getting washed/brushing teeth/going to the toilet while I was downstairs getting his how water bottle. Then laid in bed talking to me before falling asleep. So when I got him up this morning, he'd wet the bed, which was the first time for ages. I very cruelly turned the heating up and ran him a bath, which 'If I'd got a brain, which I haven't, I'd have known it was too cold for him to have a bath as he'd freeze!' All this was said while he stood starkers in the bathroom, but I managed not to respond or point out he'd be warmer in the bath. Then he thanked me for getting his towel!

I got my new curtain rails for the hallway yesterday and DS1 put the one up over the front door tonight while I cooked dinner. I then put my curtain up, discovering that the sewing and ironing fairies hadn't put new curtain tape on the curtain despite it having been in the sewing tin for ages; sewn the bright pink flannelette sheet I use as a lining for the curtain to it; or ironed it before putting it away. I need more hooks before I can hang the curtain over the living room door, but it's shocking how much difference the thin unlined cotton curtain has made already!
  • Oh fuddle I feel for you but the other are right with drink there is absolutely nothing you can do nor social services either. They know no one but your mam can do anything. All you can do it offer your sister your support not with your mam but for her. From what you have told us about her I think she will turn you down. She is feeling just as helpless as you.

Hugs fuddle we are all here to support you. :grouphug:
  • PIC: You said your husband is on multiple meds, right? His GP should have a look at them because the combinations can wreak havoc on some peoples blood sugars.

When I trained 4 through 8 was considered normal. Now, they are saying 4-9 is normal.

Over here we hate the term pre-diabetic. You either are or aren't. Doctors feel that everyone needs a diagnosis these days.

So get his meds checked, do the bloodwork and get him walking more.

The husband has found himself a job. He got bored. He's working at a wrecking yard stripping cars of parts for resale. He was spending a lot of time there looking for bits for our boys cars and they offered him the job. He's happy and says it's spending money for the winter holiday.

The Collie isn't happy, he'd got used to having his Dad home all day. Now with the cold here, he's a really a melon-Collie.
